With almost two thousand votes now gathered in the goalkeeper of the season poll, itโ€™s time to move our Team of the Season voting on to the defence.

Our new poll is now open on the front page. You have four votes available to you, allowing you to select the group of defenders that you feel have had the biggest impact on our Fantasy season. As before, you should take into account not only their point returns, but also their value from Fantasy perspective.

Your votes will help shape our thinking for our Team of the Season โ€“ with coverage beginning early next week. A midfielders poll will follow tomorrow evening with voting on forwards taking place over the weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    FELLA's!

Could anyone give me a heads up on whether any of the following will definately not feature this game week?

    Luiz, Baines, Huth, Djou, Coleman
    Malouda, VDV, Adam, Nzog, Valencia
    RVP, Suarez, Hernandez

Any help appreciated. I know it's a hard one to call, but want to try and field 11 players... which is looking unlikely.

Hernandez, Valencia and Huth very unlikely to feature.
Malouda, Luiz and VDV are 50/50

Also depends on Ancelotti's rotation plans and VDV's fitness.

Coleman has been a bit part player for the last couple of games, VDV is carrying a calf strain but thinks he'll be fit in time.

I don't think either Valencia of Hernandez will start!

Getting Tevez in this week for a hit is not worth it, looking at his record, scores Big for a GW then every other 2 or 4 GWs scores big again, would go for Berbs for a free transfer instead.

Enrique 11th in the defenders poll?! Im losing faith in the FFS massive. Do you guys watch football or just judge it on dreamteam points?!

Chris samba in 10th is also utterly ridiculous! Top five defender this season easily in my opinion.

It's supposed to be based on fantasy football perspective, Enrique is 20th in the defender's list so 11th flatters him really. Fine player tho.

In seasons gone by where the top scoring players have been too expensive to have all at once i can kind of understand the polls relevance but this year you could easily have afforded the top scoring 11-15 players so therefore they are the top players you should have had. Poll not needed.

The deliberation is getting rid of odem and Suarez for tevez and berba which would also mean id have to get rid of either malouda/ walcott to finance (8 point hit).

Also I got about 40 more pts than another rival...and we only had four different players. All down to captain choice and the luck of having a defender who can get 21 pts.

I'd go Tevez out of those two if I had to choose.

      - He's on set pieces, penalties etc and will get all three bps as soon as he scores

      - Bolton are thinking about their summer vacation and it looks like they stopped playing after that Arsenal victory

      - City have a third spot to claim

      - Utd will put out a second string lineup and Berba has never scored that well without Rooney

      - BPool have everything to play for and they looked pretty solid against Spurs the week before

    Jamsiep, are you still here?

    Valencia Wigan-Man Utd
    Lampard West Ham-Chelsea
    Baines Wigan-Everton
    Carrick Tottenham-Utd
    Duff Blackburn-Chelsea

Just some examples of players from 'mediocre' clubs going onto bigger ones and doing well.

Thought I might post this here too as I found it interesting and some others I talked to did too. Some of you will have seen this before but it's extra interesting now Porto won the Europa League last night.

It's a leaked report from when Andre Villas Boas worked as an opposition assessor at Chelsea, for Mourinho. This report covers Newcastle. Incredibly detailed stuff and a great view of what goes on about the scenes before a Premier League game.

How he got involved in Football was an amazing story.

Wrote to Bobby Robson as a 20 year old layman detailing why a player should be in the first team at Porto when Bobby was there.

Robson then hired him as a scout.

But Sam was the first Coach in England to employ the above.

He was first to employ video analysis. Fitness testing in games. Analysis of performance.
Diet ,Fatigue, Training based around optimal performance. Loads of stuff.

I think much of his mockery in football is he had the insight to apply science to something which footballers think is simple and for the layman. So he was ostracized in a way for going against the grain and not being "one of the boys"

              I like Sam.

For the record I think the Europa League winner should get a Champions League qualifying slot for next season. Wouldn't have mattered this year but it's a good incentive to make people want to play that pesky tournament.

Its a good idea. But Europa league wouldnt like it as it would take away from the that competition thats its all for another one - taking away the trophy importance . In then therers the sponsers who would kick up a foss.
Id be in favour of it but the powers the be wouldnt

Similar thing as giving a CL place to Fa cup winner. Good idea but powers be wont allow it as one season a tiny team could get through via FA cup lose out in the qualifiers and England would lose coefficient points in Europe which would result in less places

      All politics ๐Ÿ™‚

I kind of see the logic of your point but at the same time qualifiers for the Europa League are always lower placed in their respective leagues than qualifiers for the Champion League, so there is already a natural hierarchy of the competitions.

I don't think sponsors would mind either since it is all about branding with them and people talking about the champions league in conjunction with the competition that they sponsor wouldn't do them any harm.

I would always rather see more teams from smaller nations competing if they are champions. Not interested in seeing 3 or 4 teams from the same nation compete. Probably why I rarely watch it unless Ajax are in it.

Yes! If they are champions! The way teams improve is by playing at a high level.

The magic of the European cup used to be in the big match ups, say between Milan & Barca or Man Utd & Real Madrid for instance, because they happened very rarely. Its no longer special if they play each other every year or so like they do now.

Every time you post, it just gets worse. I honestly can't believe what I am reading.

I don't think it would be that hard to get another team in there, there are already a shitload of teams involved in round 1 of the qualifiers and you could take let the EL winners start back there and play the worst ranked team there or something.

The teams of the best leagues wouldn't lose out as they don't enter before the later rounds when loads of matches have already been played.

Not trying to bash the smaller leagues here in any way by the way, I understand it might look like that. Just don't think it would be hard to fit another team in.

I know you're not bashing smaller teams and I agree that there would be no issue adding an extra team in. There are about 4 qualifying rounds so loads of room for maneuver.

Personally I think ALL the champions should go straight into the group stages and all the non champions should start in the qualifying rounds and fight it out amongst themselves for the remaining places.

Ideally though it would be just 1 team from each country (champions) playing in an unseeded straight knock out competition.

We know that is never going to happen though ๐Ÿ™

that's good of you, to lower yourselves for the likes of them.

I wouldn't get too excited by the Boas story. Bobby Robson was a massive ecentric who often did crazy things like this. Don't think it will happen again.

Fulham only made something like 4.5 million when they got to the final, nobody wants to be in it.

I read a report that the made 12-15 million for their Europa Exploits last year?!?!? I think most clubs would rather have that kinda cash than not!

So my rival had both Dawson and VDV come off his bench last week. Jammy bastard.

This week he is 9 points ahead of me. His team has Rooney, Vidic, Luiz, VDV, Mireles, Odemwingie. Surely with that many doubts/outs I have to be in with a shout?

I will be raging if he wins, cos in the last few weeks he has had such an enormous amount of luck from his poor benching decisions

    Please rate my team.... thanks.

    Hart (Mignolet)
Vidic, Hangaland, Samba, (R.Johnson & Fabio)
    Adam, Malouda, Kuyt, Yaya (Hitzlsperger)
    Drogba, Suarez, Van Persie

Thinking Drogba to Tevez and maybe Vidic to Dawson...?

    Mini-league lead is 14 points

    Thanks
