Gameweek Nine saw 256 fantasy managers battle it out in the second round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power. Those involved surely know the outcome of their own fixture, so to see how everyone else faired this round click here.

If reading the results James Alexander Gordon-style isn’t for you, then read on for the round highlights. However, before I get onto listing the key outcomes, I have to bring you some tragic news… I am no longer involved in the competition, after a 51 – 40 robbery against JohnSteed01. A minutes silence will be observed before the round three fixtures.

One Fantasy Manager who might be able to get over that news is The Plutocrat who, after his 74 – 40 annihilation of timboeve (the widest margin of victory in the round), earns himself a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

Just missing out on the prize was rajmanutd who, along with chipsngravey (in a very northern outing), was involved in the highest scoring tie of the round, as the former prevailed 70 – 59.

At the other end of the spectrum was billyboychrisd‘s 37 – 33 victory over dadoune. Which wasn’t the lowest score jammy enough to win this weekend however, CarlowsGalacticos‘ narrow 36 – 35 ousting of Dino wins that award.

That was one of eleven match-ups decided by a single point, which included greghammer95‘s 53 – 52 win over hello 911 it’s quagmire….

Three fixtures went down to the tie-breaker of overall rank, which saw bossdrum, Chris81 and targa eliminate Clive, Burton and Mattenue respectively.

Contrasting fortunes for our former champions sees donnellyc marching on, thanks to a 40 – 31 victory over ham5ter, and Jonty doing one, as a result of his 55 – 48 loss at the hands of Ann_der_roo.

Granville is now the only contributor to have a berth in the tournament, as he saw off wolves_simmo with ease 50 – 32, with Pure Olivia (46 – 40 Ty_Durden67) and I getting beat.

So now we are down to 128, just 10% of everyone who entered the competition. They will learn of their opponent on Thursday when the third round fixtures (to be played during GW10) will pop up on the site.

Well done to those awaiting that fixture list (not you JohnSteed01), and commiserations to everyone bowing out this time round (some with more grace than others).

then neither for this week. Konchesky guaranteed starter, Bosingwa isnt.

Arteta to VDV might not be bad but do you need to do it this GW for a 4 pointer?

I'm probably the biggest Arteta lover here so would never advice to take him out. Even injured i'd want him in my team!

No seriously, if you want him out cause of the injury he should be back this week. Also VdV doesn't exactly have the best fixture.

Who's your second keeper? It looks a nice team though if your defenders rotate well.

Long term I'd rather have VdV than Nasri though but I wouldn't want all teams to be the same. 😛

my second keeper is MYhill 🙁 there since day 1, dont want to waste a transfer on a keeper, so he'll stay until i use my WC, i know fab will be feeding Chamakh, but he'll also be feeding Bendy Bus and soon enough RVP, so Chamakh is a rotation risk, but Fab is not

A question about "protection". I only found out about it from here (I'm a n00b here) and related links.

Why is there protection and was I just being stupid not knowing about it (never saw it on the FPL site).

    Thanx.

protection etc are secrets not known to 90% plus of the fpl world.
protection means the price of a player will not change for aprox 7 days after the injury/doubt tag removed from his name, irrespective of transfers in/out. also, the net transfer numbers(which lead towards a price rise/fall) will not count in those 7 days, and will reset once protection ends.

Everything has a protection racket these days, injury or illness red flagged price is fixed seems to be for up to 6 days more or less. Stops fluctuations in price when injury for those that do not look at their team every day.

    All,

I am getting a bit annoyed with the ‘man of the match’ v ‘bonus points’ choices lately……..

    In the following games:
Blackburn v Sunderland – On Sky Jones got MOTM and he didn’t get a single bonus in the FPL!
West Ham v Newcastle – On Sky Barton got MOTM and he didn’t get a single bonus in the FPL!

I don’t understand why they are so different, plus I need the points 🙁

Bos lost his red flag 11 days ago and Fab 8 days ago - so, if we assume protection is for 8 days (conventional wisdom but not gospel) then neither of them are protected at the moment.

      Montpellier 8/13,Valenciennes 4/6, Fiorentina 1/2, Kaiserslautern 8/15, Barca 2/7, Real Madrid 1/4, Man u 1/3 and Birmingham 4/11. Pays around £180 for a tenner

Got my 1st win of the season last night with a little treble so hope it continues. On Sunday inter cost me over a grand! 4/7 the worst price and only team to let me down in a 6 teamer.

      Cheers (Fingers crossed)

This looks really useful to sort out my imminent keeper problem as Foster and Robinson stop rotating. On the spreadsheet, I understand the home/away rotations but I can't see where the values in the rotation rating table come from and why the low values are marked green (and hence good??) Anyone help??

Fabregas coming in tonight. But who to drop? Please have a look at my team and add your thoughts.

I know Malouda seems to be the favourite choice but if I want him back later he is Pricey McDicey. Nani, on the other hand, hasn't risen that much yet so could bring him in again later - or VDV. It may sound mental but they're affordable to bring in with a decent run of fixtures. Alternatively, I could do Tevez to Berbatov and Ethers for Fab.

    Help?

Personally I would do Ethers - Fab. I would not downgrade Malouda or VDV though, no way... Personally I would get the money from Carroll - Varney (leaving you with Barton as Toon coverage).

          What do you think?

I can only do Ethers to Fab if I get some money off another sale eg. Tevez to Berbatov. I have 5.1 in the bank but it's not quite stretching!

You could have a game called Fantasy WAG and get points for every upskirt shot in the papers for your WAG or every time they have a player that goes with a hooker or gets involved in a bar brawl or points for if they breed some babies in the year or if they have John Terry for breakfast, etc at least it would be more interesting than thinking about Fabregas....going for a pint, there is not much you can do really just you got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, know when to run ......every player is a winner and every player is a loser and the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep! I leave you with that hopeful thought!

Yeah. Utd have Spurs not an easy fixture so it's not worth the hit imo.

So do elmo this week and Nani next week. If next week you happen to get unlucky and someone gets injured just means you take a hit next week instead of this week. If there is no injuries then BOOM 4 points saved

        Gomes, (Robinson)
        Coleman, Shawcross, Cole, (Toure, Samba)
Nani, Malouda, vDV, Petrov, (De Jong)
        Bent, Tevez, Carroll

Should i use my wildcard? Or what do you suggest i use my free transfer on? I have 1.0 in the bank.

Lots of chat above about changing Malouda for Fabregas. Seems reasonable if you can afford it, but a risk in the short term.

I'd have to take a 4point hit to find an extra 0.7 from somewhere. I think Maloudas got me too much points to get rid of, 'cause i know i'd end up having to get him back.

i knee-jerked and played WC last night.

swapped out toure for konchesky, bale to VdV and Cashly for Bosingwa.

        i regret it this morning...

        PLEASE RMT guys...

yeah, exactly. i dont know what i was thinking... well... mainly price rises.

i didnt want to change much... was thining about turning nani into gerrard but with chelsea coming up its unwise.

anyone believe bosingwa for cole was a mistake??

how so? decent fixtures apart from chelsea... decent amount of assist potential. cheaper than the person he replaced in my team.... err... cant think of more reasons to justify it to myself. lol

Not always. It can say PROT in min & a player can rise. Obviously no protection was used for this player at the time.

        Hey,
        Would you go for:
        O'Shea and Harewood or
        Shawcross and Varney?

          At present it is:
          Jaask/Foster
          Elmo/O'Shea/Dann/Shawcross/Williamson
          Malouda/Nani/Bale/N'Zogbia/Ferguson
          Drogba/Tevez/Berbatov

Plan was to get Fab in for Malouda, but reluctant to do that now.

          Thinking, Bale, Berbatov and Shawcross/O'Shea
          for Fab, Coleman and Varney/Harewood

          Thanks!
