With just six days remaining until the 2014/15 season gets up and running, City and Arsenal go head-to-head for the Community Shield this afternoon. As expected, both side’s starting line-ups have been heavily influenced by a lack of pre-season action for a number of World Cup stars, though Arsene Wenger hands all three of his main summer signings competitive debuts:

Man City Starting XI: Caballero; Clichy, Boyata, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernando, Toure, Nasri; Jovetic, Dzeko

Arsenal Starting XI: Szczesny; Debuchy, Koscielny, Chambers, Gibbs; Arteta, Wilshere; Alexis, Ramsey, Cazorla; Sanogo

For City, Stevan Jovetic has the chance to continue the form which has harvested five goals over the summer so far. The Montenegro international is partnered by Edin Dzeko up top and, whilst the likes of Samir Nasri and Yaya Toure also make the XI, Arsenal will be optimistic of taking advantage of an experimental City backline, which sees Gael Clichy fielded as a right-back once again and Aleks Kolarov patrolling the left.

Arsene Wenger names Mathieu Debuchy and Callum Chambers in defence alongside Laurent Koscielny and Kieran Gibbs. Aaron Ramsey owners will be buoyed by what appears to be a move to the attacking midfield three alongside Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez, with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere sitting in front of the defence. Up front, Sanchez’ role out wide means Yaya Sanogo gets the nod after his four-goal demolition of Benfica in last week’s Emirates Cup, with Olivier Giroud warming the bench again.

    Here's something different!

    352

    Szczesny - (4.0)
    Evans - Kaboul - Chester - (Mariappa - Moore)
    Sanchez - Hazard - Coutinho - Lamela - Mutch
    Rooney - Dzeko - (Jutkiewicz)

With 1m still in the bank!

Very flexible team, can downgrade Sanchez or Hazard if someone like Sturridge or Aguero start firing. Or can upgrade Cout --> Sterling, or upgrade someone to a Chelsea defender.

Also Burnley and QPR rotate decently so can play Mutch or Jutkiewicz based on fixtures

Nice strategy. Only thing I'd say is Mariappa not nailed on.

    What about this ?
    De gea - Myhill
    Shaw-Vlaar-Clyne Monreal-Konchesky
    Puncheon-Sterling(v)-Hazard-Eriksen-Tadic
    Rooney(c)-Dzeko-and att for 6.5

I'd consider either upgrading Tadic and getting a cheaper striker or vice versa.

I hope to have a good discussion out of that.

who can score more points, costa or sturidge? both r 1st strikers for their teams (no competetion)

costa: 1m cheaper, read in here he is on penalties and was great in spain.

chelsea is not the kind of an attaking team. can win with just a goal. not sure if he can score 2 or 3 goals/match.

sturridge: have to downgrade somewhere to get him, not on penalties. however, he is proven himself in epl with lots of goals. he also assists.

liverpool is a team that loves to attack and all leads to sturridge.

    what do u think guys?

Will be interesting to see what happens to Sturridge now that Suarez is gone. Playing next to Suarez freed up a lot of space for him last season. This year he will take all the heat. I'd go for Costa.

i agree with u both and thanks for replying by the way but my only concern is that i cant see him scoring few goals/match with chelsea

Picking ashley young instead of mata... It allows for front 3 of costa/rooney/sturridge... With good mid & defence.

With the new 12:30 deadline we'll also get to see the united lineup prior to finalising to make sure young starts

Yeah not a bad shout. Probably best to have a rotation option as plenty of competition for those wb roles- shaw, valencia, rafael

already have Young too. I just think Mata and Rooney will play a supporting role to Rvp with the former being more involved in the build up play leaving Rooney and Rvp to do the finishing

    Krul (Mannone)

    Clyne Debuchy F.Luis (Bruce) (McShane)

    Y.Toure Mata Lamela Henderson (Sigurdsson)

    D.Costa Rooney Bojan

Bojan to rotate with Sigurdsson. Considering removing Toure and getting Ramsey or Sterling in there. Thoughts??

Lamela for Eriksen is a nice punt although I'm going with Eriksen. Perhaps you should get some United defense in?

Hard to tell with preseason but they have looked a lot better at the back with their new system. Shaw will be nailed on if he's fully fit, Evans probably nailed on in the back three.

            Krul (Myhill)

            Evans Debuchy F.Luis (Bruce) (McShane)

            Ramsey Mata Lamela Coutinho (Sigurdsson)

Mannone not a certain starter, better to use O sheo or Van anholt from their defense and Rotate Krul with Foster i think..
I dont trust Southampton in defense despite their nice fixtures so Clyne is a gamble in my eyes. I'd spend the 5.0 on a player from stoke or Palace.
Bruce and Mc Shane wont play which makes them less than useless, they'll probably loose you money and you'll have no subs when you need them
Lamela is a brave gamble, I like it - good to have a differential
The Bojan Siggy rotation is a great idea, I'm doing the same with Hoilett and Murray
Overall its good but the defense needs work imo

For those of you who are reluctant to get Sturridge/Sterling, take a look a last season's results. Liverpool were scoring for fun regardless of the fixtures just like Man City were. Even without Suarez this year, Sterling and Sturridge will be the main attacking players and they will still e racking up the points as they have shown in pre-season.

Great investments for your teams imo.

By this logic nobody should be forgoing City cover either, but plenty are doing so, especially after today. Not that I think that's smart.

    Foster
    Ferdinand/Azpilicueta/Debuchy (Coloccini/Mariappa)
    Mata/Ramsey/Henderson/Eriksen (Siggy)
    Bojan/Rooney/Sturridge

I plan on playing Siggy most of the time except the tough fictures (Manu first week).
Henderson is for me the tradeable asset. To move and take advantage of bandwagons.
Rooney as Captain. Not sure Costa vs Sturridge but going with more proven ones at the start.
Not convinced with City and their fixtures for the start so gonna wait and see. Same with Chelsea Midfield.
In defense gonna play Azpi (needs monitoring) and Debuchy plus a 3way rotation of the rest. Might change Mariappa to Yoshida.

    Please fire away 🙂
