The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    I have a feeling Fabregas will do very well, but the upgrades to my defense are significance if I choose Siggy instead. And I'm not willing to drop any of my other big midfielders. Opinions?

      I favour neither gk options. If you are going to play one gk week in week out at least make it a good one like DDG or whichever Chelsea gk gets the nod. Gk rotation is often then best route. Defence looks a little weak as well in the second one...so I prefer the first.

      Hey Jimbo, since there are quite a few similarities in both options, it might be easier to eliminate them, and just leave the players which actually matter in making the decision.

      A) Begovic
      Cahill, Ward
      Siggy

      B) Krul
      Chester, Mariappa
      Fabregas

      A little easier to see and evaluate 🙂

        A does seem the more logical option, but I just can't seem to get away from Fabregas.. Need someone to talk me out of him!

    I have 1.5 to upgrade at the back.. what should I do?

    not sure whether I should spend it on a United defender or upgrade to 3 nailed on 5.0 defenders, or if I should upgrade my keepers.. Any ideas?

      Get a united defender. Easy early run of fixtures gives you a nailed on player for each week. Either Jones or Evans would be my tip.

      2-3 until Mert is fit to play, although I must say he was great against Man City two days ago and with Vermaelen gone to Barca he could play more than a few games

    You don't have even one striker who promises you 20+ goals

    I would look into that good midfielders are needed but top goalscorers are the players you want to build your team around

        Thanks for the replies. Struggling to find a player I'd want that the extra 2m would free up.

        Went for Defence that was reliable with Debuchy as a sort of wild card. May swap him out in future.

        Maybe go Koscielny and Dummet for Debuchy and Ward?

      I don't think your keepers rotate very well at all. Not fixture wise anyway.

      How much game time will Chiriches get? And don't like the Shelvey punt at all.

        cheers. i would play DeGea most games but they alternate with home games nearly all season what's wrong with that

        not convinced on chriches either and 1.0 cheaper than vertonghen. thought he did well last year.

        will debuchy start most games?
        is my defence too expensive hurting the rest of my team? def want at least 3 DEF that i can rely on

          Nothing wrong with it. I just like rotation to be based on fixtures rather than simply Home/Away. For example, are you saying you'd rather play Krul against Chelsea over DDG against Southampton?

          I'd expect Kaboul or Dawson to partner Vert at centre back, but I'm only guessing.

            nah i wouldn't rotate very often but good to have the option, just need to way up if the extra 0.5m is worth keeping for other areas

      Don't no how goufran will do after nC buying a lot of players will he be nailed on no idea..
      Remy a fixed started for qpr will be great
      But till we are sure we should pay off him

      - if you have De Gea, you may aswell have a 4.0 sub keeper saving 0.5.
      - Not sure on Chiriches either.

        who would you replace Chiriches with? Ward - don't know if he's safe

        Swansea host Burnley, West Brom, Southampton, Newcastle and Leicester first 5 home games. I think Shelvey could get off to a flyer! not a keeper but certainly good fixtures to start the season?

    On the head to head leagues, there's an option for knockout rounds... how are these players chosen? Are they the top 8 players based on the points for wins/draws then put into a knockout for the last 3 GWs?

    I like your team a lot. In fact, I'm sure I've had the exact same players as some point.

    de Jong is likely to be injured for the first game, so I'd downgrade him, upgrade Austin, and play Siggy.

    Hm the trouble with that team is that there is a lot of punts, and if they dont come off you're going to be wildcarding very early.

    Shaw told hes not fit, De Jong unproven and carrying an injury, Lamela an unknown quantity after a poor season, Siggurdson perhaps playing on the wing, Costa unproven in Prem and the same with Austin.

    I'd consider getting Fabregas/Hazard for De Jong and doing Costa --> Giroud. two proven prem players there. In defence, Shaw to Luis/Azpil seems logical too.

      Take YYT out, he is too expensive. If you want a city player get silva. Then upgrade your keeper and defence with the left over cash. You could even put in Ramsey for Sanchez, in order to get further funds for defence, puncheon and Nugent upgrades. As this team does not have a strong enough strike force to play 343, consider a 352 with a very upgraded midfield

      Bego in for krul, with foster out for Gilks. Downgrade shaw to Evans to get an extra 0.5 mil on the defence. Otherwise it is a very solid team

      I like it. Wasn't sure if it was affordable! Keep your eye out on Albrighton injury and whether Wisdom will start.

    Sorry but I'm not really a fan of your team . I really don't understand why you do not have Dzeko in your team considering how well he scores when he plays . Neither De Jong or Siggy rotate well with Austin surely you would be better off going with someone like Puncheon if you are going to go down that route , Considering how well owned the City , Arsenal and Chelsea mids are you should not wait and see you will end up a mile behind
