The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next Fantasy Premier League RMT contender is Alex Bowers, the winner of the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League Beta version 2013/14.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

      Personally not a fan of Henderson, and Dzeko hasn't scored in pre-season. I'd be tempted to get Bojan and upgrade your DFs or Henderson, or both.

    I've been brutal in skimping on my defence with the logic that I can downgrade one of the midfielders once the season is underway if they don't perform. Also I'll be in a better position to see which of the cheap defenders are starting.
    I chose Chambers as it seems as if he'll get at least one or two starts before Mertesacker is back and O'shea because he's one of the few "nailed on" £4.5 defenders I think. Lamela is differential to Eriksen, I just have a feeling! 🙂 What do we think?

    De Gea instead of a Utd defender?

      I had DDG first, but switched to having Evans, because he's one of the few good DEF at 5.5m. I then got Bego in to cover Stoke defense in a cheap way. Lamela might be an interesting choice. Definitely less ownership and if he blossoms, might do your team good!
      What are your thoughts on Siggy vs Hendo?

      I'm not sure about Siggy week one vs Utd but then again I'm a United fan!
      I've gone for Henderson first and I'm planning on switching to Siggy or Snodgrass

      - Take out one of Bojan or Arnie, not worth going into the season with two stoke attackers
      - Other than that defence is solid, mids are good

      Definitely Eriksen over Coutinho if you go for B
      I think in general you might be disappointed by MCY strikers, given that they have a though opening schedule. Also Zamora, not very likely to do so great. I suggest: Mata, Fab, Rambo, Eriksen, 4.5m MID and use the extra cash to upgrade Dzeko.

      I say A and wait on the likes of Eriksen (Lamela could shine!) and Coutinho (he has a few tricky fixtures to start).

      As for the front three on your A selection I'd decide between Jovetic or Dzeko and go for someone like Giroud, Bony, Pelle, Agbonlahor and maybe save £0.5 somewhere to help with any midfield switching later on.

    Chambers out for other rotation defender (probably Collocini) once Per is back.
    Punt on Pellè, even though I think in general Eredivisie players struggle to adjust to the PL playing style, but the SOT opening schedule is just so kind..

      I would downgrade Chambers and upgrade Pellé to Jovetic/Dzeko. Up to yourself, nice midfield

        Chambers only at 4.5m. Could go to 4.0m (Wisdom) and for Pellè to Jove, but once Aguero is back, I would have to transfer him again. Thoughts?

          Hmm true, what about going with DDG in goal and Gilks as your backup keeper to free up 0.5 mil.

          That way you could upgrade to Jovetic for a while and change Evans to Huth/ Cameron and still have Stoke coverage. Up to yourself though. I reckon Jovetic is first choice alongside Aguero, unless Dzeko starts performing I think he'll drop Dzeko when Aguero's back.

            That was the alternative I had in mind, but what I was struggling with is who to pick from the Stoke backline. Do you think Cameron / Huth are sure to start?

    Thoughts lads? Looks like this will be me for the season, bar a change in defence. Front 8 is staying the way it is. Maybe Huth and Vlaar will change

        Yeah he probably doesnt. Really stacking up on midfield in the first option.

          I'm not so concerned with 3-5-2, I appreciate that 3-4-3 is the consensus but I think there more quality midfielders who can generate fantasy points than there are strikers, so I'm for stacking on midfielders, time will tell though

    Hi all. Would really appreciate some advice on the below:

    Krul / Foster
    Evans / Luis / Chambers / (Huton) / (Wisdom)
    Haz / Ramsey / Sterling / Young / (4.5 albrighton)
    Rooney / Costa / Giroud

    Considering taking out Giroud or Costa for a cheaper forward option like Bojan, and then upgrading young to another premium Mid such as Mata.

    I know chambers will likely have to go GW3 and also uncertainty on Luis but Chelsea coverage needed.

      I wouldn't put chambers, you can't plan to offload someone sometime, if you know he is not regular , avoid. Transfers are too precious to be wasted just like that.
      In the end you will have other more pressing trfs to do or chasing bandwagons
      Price rises will push a lot of ppl to press the wild button

    Alright I think she's set. My main concern here is the lack of Arsenal coverage. I'd like to shoehorn Ramsey in there, but I want to keep the balance. Anything else I should be worried about?

        Thanks Daelrhos. I really don't believe in Bojan given his track record, though that thought has crossed my mind multiple times. At the end of the day I think Dzeko is a safer bet to outscore Ramsey (he's been steady for years and should get regular playtime for the first few months), and I'd rather punt on Siggy than Bojan. I'd consider Austin over Siggy, but then I'd rather have Dzeko than someone like Nasri, etc. Anyways I'm rambling at this point, thanks again.
