The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    Eriksen or Lamela?

    Eriksen is on set pieces obv, but Lamela seems to be poaching lots of goals pre season ...

      What is your reason for Howard? I personally would downgrade howard to 5m GK and downgrade mannone to 4m GK giving you 1m then upgrade Bruce to 5m def

        Agree with this. Or 2x 4.5's. But I don't think Howard is a good pick to start with (Everton have tough fixtures) and too expensive to rotate.

      Not keen on krul, kaboul or jovetic

      Downgrade Kaboul to 4.5m as you have three 5m Def already
      Upgrade Jov to Dzeko

      Too early in the season for Baines. I would downgrade him and maybe a midfielder to try and improve that front line... there are points to be had from the strikers.

    Zabaleta/Terry/Vlaar/Lovren
    Sterling/Fabregas/Henderson
    Costa/Rooney/Giroud

    Not entirely happy with my GK choice but I have sacrificed this to try and have a strong attack.

      Krul is a more nailed on GK choice.

      Strong defence, I would perhaps argue that you've invested too much at the back. Though, that being said, if you plan on going 4 at the back that's perhaps necessary. Strong front line too.

        I haven't even thought about Krul to be honest, I might have to give that a look.

        Yeah, I think my mid has suffered a bit because of that but I'm hoping Fab and Sterling will do okay and my front line will pick up the slack.

      Stong front 3. I'm not convinced Fab is gonna be used in a way that gets you many goals. For that reason I'd plump for Oscar or Silva but I think it'll all be clear after GW1

        My thought process is this. It's easier to transfer from a 10.5 striker to a 8.5 for example than it is in reverse. If the big guns up top approach fails, then I sell one and reinvest. Whereas if the big guns hit the ground running, then I could be in trouble trying to afford them.

    Have this squad in mind atm. Other option that I read a lot about could be for example Siggy for Sterling and upgrading Zamora to Bojan who could rotate with Siggy. But i'll have either a 6m or 5,5m on the side which I think is a waste of money.

    Therefore I think when upgrading Zamora to Bojan i'd rather downgrade a midfielder to a 4,5m and play 343 but actually not sure about Bojan collection that many points...

    What are your thoughts about this?

      Simpson or Yoshida could both need to be dumped within a couple of weeks (threat of Isla/that new CB Saints are linked with). Could do Simpson > Ferdinand (more nailed on in the long term, IMO) or Yosh > Chester.

      The defence rules I am going for this year are:

      Two top team defenders (one Chelsea) and then some rotational that play for teams with favourable fixtures.

      Speroni, Foster

      Cahill, Evans, Cameron, Coloccini, Bruce

      If you can remove 0.5 from this defence, as depends on your preference, then it would fit nicely.

      I like it, maybe downgrade one of Henderson/Siggy to a 5.5 so you can get a 4.5 rotational defender eg PvA/Coloccini

      Nice balance but im not keen on jovetic but if you fancy him then cant complain. Keep an eye on stoke as defensivly they're not like they once were

        Not entirely convinced that Costa will hit the ground running or that Mourinho won't do that annoying thing of shutting up shop when they go a couple of goals up. Would prefer Dzeko GW1 as want City coverage vs Newcastle defence.

      If you're set on a Sunderland defender, I'd suggest PVA ahead of O'Shea. Will be more attacking, and get the feeling Vergini will eventually rotate with JOS and Brown in the middle.

    Any advice? Potentially swap de gea for begovic and sterling for mata. I feel it's crucial to have 3 Man U players given their first 5 fixtures but liverpool will probably score a lot of goals.

      I would go for Puncheon to begin with, and wait an see on Henderson, especially with Liverpools tough run of games.

    Good afternoon ladies and gents! 🙂

    Here is regularly pondered dilemma we are all facing:
    A) to load up in defence??
    B) or go big in attack??

    Having mused long and hard about it I have opted for B as I can downgrade expensive strikers in the first couple of weeks to buy the performing bandwagons (or hopefully just stick with the ones I have chosen!)

    Here is my GW1 team, I know what you're thinking, at face value it appears weak at the back, however it offers me the following coverage for the first 5 week (which I will not change!!)

    Begovic (Krul) - rotated each week
    Evans Wisdom Chester (Ward, Bartley)
    Eriksen Ramsey Mata Fabregas (Sigurdsson)
    Rooney (C) Costa (VC) Bojan

    qpr SWA SUN
    WHM STO BUR
    avl bur WBA
    BUR WHM QPR
    new leics SOT

    My doubts:
    1) Bojan - new hero or massive zero? I reckon he's worth a punt! Any better choices??
    2) Costa - good preseason but might struggle but first season in Prem? Might struggle! Would like to go Sturridge however don't warm to Liverpool's opening fixtures.
    3) No Hazard! Go Mata to Herrera to free up some cash?

    Is my team and thinking: sound, ok or crazy??

      Albrighton is injured, Bruce might not play much, and I believe Lukaku will most likely miss the start of the season.

      And I think there are better players to invest 5.5 in than Debuchy. I will be waiting until later on to get Arsenal defenders.

        thanks for the response, don't really plan on playing albrighton early just there because hes cheap, might have to drop lukaku though, wasnt sure on him anyways because of the fixtures

          I like the idea though for Lukaku. I will be getting him around GW8 if all goes to plan (which it usually doesn't...)

          I'm also torn between Eriksen and Lamela. Guess it'll be a shot in the dark.

      I'm not that certain of Arsenal's clean sheets for the first month. Would swap out Szczesny/Debuchy for cheaper teams that have easier fixtures.
