This evening’s Members article takes a look over the action in Sunday’s Community Shield showdown between Arsenal and City. Having assessed Alexis Sanchez’ display our lunchtime Technical Area post, we delve into the data to discover for any hints of form ahead of the weekend Gameweek 1 deadline.
- Is Rooney, Costa and Sturridge Too Much?
So has anyone else given in to go the Sturridge Costa Rooney team wagon - Join the club.
Open ControlsWas thinking about it, but didn't want to spoil my lovely midfield 🙂
Open ControlsSomething has to give, you can't have them all
Open ControlsCan have more of them without that expensive frontline though i reckon 🙂
Open ControlsYup, which two have you opted for?
Open Controls
Some were on it before you thought of the idea. Stop claiming it as your own.
Open ControlsNot claiming it as my 'idea'
Open ControlsEvery time you post it's about these front 3....
Open ControlsNever said it is my idea- just generally advising people that this is the best way to go
Open ControlsAnd how do you know that? The season hasn't even started...
Open ControlsI don't 'know' it, I just think it is the best way to go
Open Controls
To be fair you can't advise that something is better when realistically you have no idea what is going to happen
Open ControlsThat is the point, no one knows what is going to happen, but when you advise people on RMT's etc you do that according to what you 'think' is right
Open ControlsDon't want to get in to it, but when you say 'advising people that this is the best way to go', it is you telling them without a shadow of a doubt that this will work out best for them. Not what you think could be the most beneficial.
Open Controls
It isn't. The idea is the try and get the most points from 100m not just the most points. You don't get value from them by owning them all at once because the value from these players comes from captaining them regularly.
Open ControlsEveryone has his own ideas man, I just think that the forwards are the players who are most likely to get you the most points. So when there is uncertainty regarding the Dzekos,Jovetics and Girouds of this world, I would just pick the best forwards. Despite that, you can afford a decent team
Open Controls
Well touchy folks on here at this time. What's wrong?! 🙂
Open Controls😛
Open Controls
Well, dropped Costa for Sturridge yesterday.
And then he scored 2 and is getting hard to ignore form-wise. So back to the drawing board. haha.Open ControlsHahaha 🙂
Open Controls
Im in with all three. I don't want to be sat here at midday [sat] worried the one I left out scores a hatty. If one gets injured GW1 then I can bring in who I want [ except RVP]
Open ControlsBrilliant, sit back and enjoy the gold 🙂
Open Controls
2/3 is most I would go because I don't like the balance if I get all 3. Not only that I don't want Sturridge just now because of fixtures and there is a questionmark over whether or not they can replicate last seasons form.
Open ControlsLiverpool will score goals, their attacking returns are fixture proof.. No doubt about that.. Rodgers loves to attack
I don't see how this team is unbalanced
Krul
Jones/Terry/Chester
Mata/Ramsey/Snodgrass/Sigurdsson
Rooney/Costa/Sturridge
Elliot/Marney/Hutton/Moore
Ticks all the boxes
-Nailed on United defender
-Nailed on Chelsea defender
-Best forward line in the game to begin with at least
-Mata
-Ramsey
-I've explained the midfield below (I know the fourth midfielder is a problem, but more options will appear when the season starts. For now, I'm playing the fixtures and beginning with Snodgrass)Open ControlsYour bench is fodder and you have Chester as a starter, not to mention you are missing at least 1 premium midfielder, well that is how I see it but you obviously view it differently.
Are Sturridge + Snodgrass + Chester going to outscore Giroud + Eriksen + Jones for example.Open ControlsBench is meant to be fodder, it's just that you need nailed on players who can fill in during your time of need
As I said I expect that third forward (Studge) to outscore that 3rd premium midfielder (Fabregas Sterling Eriksen etc) comfortably
You missed the fact that I have Jones in there as well.
I've picked Chester and Snodgrass to give me a solid foundation to begin with as Hull play Stoke,Villa,QPR and West Ham in the first 4. Till the next Ramsey or Michu reveals himself, I'm going to play the fixturesOpen ControlsThanks 🙂
Open Controls
im considering Hazard + Erikson over Mata + Ramsey with that front line.
Thoughts?Open ControlsBoth are good options, but Hazard looks rusty at the moment. Mata and Ramsey should come out firing out of the blocks 🙂
Open Controls
Just don't think that 3rd premium mid (Sterling,Eriksen,Fabregas etc) is worth it over my 3rd striker (Sturridge) - More points in attack (plus more captaincy options)
The midfield picks itself too
Mata and Ramsey pick themselves - top picks
Siggy - Bargain at that price with set pieces
The fourth one is the tricky one (You can choose anyone below 6.5) - Hendo and Snodgrass are the obvious picks but I've personally gone with Snod due to his fixtures. I'm sure we'll have another option after the few gameweeks who i can jump on and replace Snod (Michu,Ramsey in the previous years)Open ControlsIts not only about Sturridge vs 1 premium mid, its Sturridge + 6m mid vs premium mid + 8.5 att... Are you sure Sturridge + Snodgrass will outscore Sterling/Fabregas/Eriksen + Dzeko/Bony/Adebayor/Giroud...
Open ControlsYes,100%... Bear in mind Sturridge gives you another captaincy option as well
Are you sure about these strikers yourself? I'm not convinced
-We don't know who the main man at City is (Question mark around Aguero as well, going the 3 striker route would allow an easier upgrade to Aguero)
-Bony might leave before the end of the window leading to you reshuffle your team early on
-Adebayor may be rotated with Soldado due to Europa
-Giroud isn't 100% fit
Snodgrass is just a short term punt due to fixtures (Stoke,WHAM,Villa,QPR), I'll replace him as soon as the next Michu/Ramsey reveals himself 😉Open Controls
I currently have all three...and Yaya 😀
Choice has come down to Dzeko & Sterling over Sturridge & a mid up to 6.5. I prefer the latter.Open ControlsI'm rocking the Sturoosta front line. High 5!
Open Controlso/
Open Controls
I reckon it can be done. You can still keep a Chelsea defender, two £9m mids and then two bargains and a cheapie.
For me it rather depends on Young - without him the 4th midfielder looks a very weak spot.Open ControlsYup - see the team I posted above
As I said, I'm sure we'll have another option after the few gameweeks who i can jump on and replace Snod (Michu,Ramsey in the previous years)... Even if you don't go the Young routeOpen ControlsYup I've gone Fabregas over Mata but otherwise very similar - I like the look of Snod and Hull's early fixtures are great but they don't score much and there's also the inevitable dip with Europa. The upgrade obviously requires 2 transfers but you can probably take your pick of which 3 forwards to downgrade by that point.
Open ControlsExactly, Henderson and Puncheon are the other alternatives to Snod
Open ControlsI think I'm going Young and Siggi subject to the press conference. Young seems worth the gamble as he could be absolutely explosive.
What do you think on Henderson? Polarises opinion but I'm quite tempted, he's got the potential to score more this year but maybe a watch and see.Open ControlsHenderson is definitely a good shout with this strategy. Tbh in week two onwards Steven Davis could become playable every week at 5.0, so there's no shortage of options.
Open ControlsExactly, you can throw Mutch in there as well
Open Controls
I think it is best to wait and see with Henderson. Sure if he gets off to a flyer like Ramsey, well and good and you can jump on the wagon straight away
If he doesn't, he is a big candidate for a price rise as Liverpool play City and Spurs after the Soton game. His role still requires some clarification. Hence, I've opted for the safer Snodgrass routeOpen Controls
Think Costa to Hazard is better tbh :/ I see Rooney and Studge as essential this season(both will score over 20 im sure).
Costa is going to score, but maybe like 15-17 ?
Might as well roll the dice 😛Open ControlsNot sure who will score more through out the course of the season, but Costa is definitely the man in form right now, while Hazard after the World Cup (and even during it) looks rusty and disinterested
Open Controls
I personally believe you'll get a better return on your money by picking three 9.0 midfielders - and there's a conundrum in itself, trying to pick the best three.
However, I have picked Costa due to what appears to be a sole striker status. Means he'll get goals and of course, gametime. The other two have competing strikers.
I also believe Costa is undervalued by FPL because of this lone striker status and could be the bargain of the season, even at 10.5Open ControlsIts not about the money at the end of the day, it is about the points 🙂
Exactly, he's underpriced and in that team with Fabregas and Hazard being the providers, he'll fill his boots week in week outOpen Controls
RMT / 10 please, 0m ITB
Krul (Elliot)
Jones Cahill Wisdom (Moore Duff)
Young Hazard Ramsey Sigurdsson (Marney)
Rooney Costa SturridgeOpen ControlsGreat team 🙂
Open Controls
Who do people think will lead the line for Spurs?
Open Controlssoldado to start, by week 10 it will be adebayor, by week 30 it will be kane... 🙂
Open ControlsDon't think Ade will lead the line from the off?
Open Controlsnot judging from pre-season..ade still not 100%, soldado is scoring open play goals (shock horror). poch may revert to 2 up front though when both are fully fit.
Open ControlsCool, good points, will steer clear for now then, just entered my mind, i'm sticking with Giroud.
Open ControlsWhat's changed with Soldado? His movement last season was shockingly poor.
Open Controlsi disagree. i felt that his movement was really good, it was more the poor link-up play. that and his finishing was woeful, i think he's gone off and practised that again and is starting to find a bit of form. plus, new manager means he needs to impress again to get top spot.
Open ControlsYou'd know better than me of course. Eriksen or Lamela is a different matter.
Open Controls
Soldado? Really?
Open Controls
Adebayor for me, but I'd rather stay away as we don't know who is nailed yet. They have Europa commitments as well
Open ControlsCheers lads for all the feedback.
Open Controls
@bigchris
Who is it that you referred to as 007?Open ControlsReasonably happy with this 15 for the time being :p
Begovic, Krul
Jones, Terry, Naylor, Vlaar, Duff
Fabregas, Gylfi, Mata, Arnautovic, Davis
Rooney, Costa, Dzeko
£.5m wish I could squeeze Eriksen in somehowOpen ControlsRejig the midfield again and you can get Eriksen. Get rid of Fabregas as you have Costa.
Open ControlsOne can have both (admittedly I don't)
Open Controls
May I suggest something to help achieve that?
Krul > 4.0
Davis > 4.5
Arnautovic > EriksenOpen Controls
Not terribly relevant for fantasy purposes, but I thought you all might enjoy this piece I wrote on template favorite Bojan. Outrageous talent, that is for sure.
https://medium.com/the-cauldron/stoking-the-flames-of-bojan-krkic-9f102641711cOpen ControlsMay I ask why no one choose adebayor ? didnt see him being picked in many RMT ...am i missed something ?
Open ControlsNot sure how nailed on he is with Soldado there. With last seasons form Adebayor should nailed on easily but you never know with a new season and a new manager
Open ControlsI think ade is pretty much nailed on judging by the pre season form .Rather taking eriksen or lamela i think i will go for ade .nice differential also ..
Open Controls
Consistency.
Open Controls
Newer crowd, advise on this would be appreicated!
A, B or C for the last few slots?
DDG, Hamer
Cahill Ward PVA Chester Moore
Mata Ramsey Marney ? ?
Costa Rooney ?
A - Hazard, Arnie, Austin (0 in bank)
B - Hazard, Siggy, Austin (0.5 in bank)
C - Fabregas, Eriksen/Lamela, Bojan (0 in bank)
I am currently on B, but the switch to Arnie is so temptingOpen ControlsNope
Open ControlsHeaton could reinjure himself I guess, so Gilks
Open Controls
Gilks is your best bet?
Open ControlsThere were rumors around here that Heaton might be injured.
Gilks might start.
Might.Open Controls
As EPL creeps closer I think I'm getting close to finding a team I like
Foster - Krul
Jones - BDavies - Ward - Cameron - Van Aanholt/O'Shea
Fabregas - Sterling - Lamela/Eriksen - Siggy - Young
Rooney - Costa - Giroud
Still undecided with my third striker slot between Giroud, Dzeko and Jovetic. Taking a few punts but I think its pretty balanced. Thoughts?Open ControlsCameron and Bavies are risks, the rest seems good. I would pick Jovetic out of the three personally
Open ControlsWhat are your thoughts in Bavies starting?
Open ControlsYoung and Bavies are decent punts. I like it.
Cameron I'd change to Wilson though - more likely to start GW1.Open Controls
http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-news/
The predicted line-ups are updatedOpen ControlsA - Diego Costa, Sterling & Evans/other 5.5 DEF
B - Sturridge, Eriksen & Caulker/other 5.0m DEFOpen ControlsRMT please ?
De Gea
Cahill van Aanholt Debuchy
Mutch Mata Ramsey Eriksen
Costa Rooney Diouf
Sub:
Myhill - Wisdom - Marney - Chester ( +2.0 in the bank )Open ControlsI'd do Diouf > Dzeko or Mutch >Siggy, Wisdom > 4.5 or Mutch > Tadic
Open Controls
Could Faurlin possibly be the 4.5m budget MID option, locked in to his side's starting XI that everyone is on the look out for?
Open ControlsHey guys what are your thoughts on Hazard ? is it worth owning him and costa ?
Open ControlsStill a great option, not as expensive as he could have been but still pretty expensive so less people are going for him and yes it is
Open ControlsHazard seems a bit off the boil a bit. If you have Costa you may ok. I've looked elsewhere as far as Hazard is concerned.
Open ControlsI reckon Hazard will start with a bang
Open ControlsLooked disinterested in pre-season.
Open Controls
Please RMT 🙂
Foster (Myhill)
Debuchy Jones Luis (Wisdom Bruce)
Mata Fabregas Ramsey Siggy (Wanyama)
Rooney Costa JoveticOpen ControlsI'd go for Marney over Wanyama and Krul-Elliot over Foster-Myhill
Open ControlsYou have my exact front 8 (as of this moment). Watch out for Luis minutes at the back - quite a lot of conjecture over that. I would also advocate the foster/my hill -> krul/Elliot swap. Other than that, it looks very nice (given that it's basically mine 😛 )
Open Controls
What about it then, chaps?
Bego Myhill
Blackett Chester Naylor Wisdom Hutton
Yaya Hazard Ramsey Siggy JWP
Studge Roon DioufOpen ControlsDefense is too weak for my liking, Hutton and Blackett are not nailed and Yaya and Sturridge definitely affect the rest of your team. But the again, the cause for fear is that Yaya and Studge will be so good that they will make up for any flaws
Open ControlsGet rid of Blackett-looks too short term imo
Bego -> Krul
Blackett -> Ward
JWP -> Wanyama/Marney
Naylor -> Clyne/CaulkerOpen ControlsJust Jwp -> Marney and Blacket -> Ward/Clyne/Caulker
Bego is untouchable 😀Open ControlsStoke's defense is over rated, I don't think he is worth the 0.5 over Krul. Newcastle kept more clean sheets than Stoke last year 😉
Open ControlsAgree with this Blacket to 5.0 with JWP downgrade
Open ControlsIt's an option, sure. But I'd just be bringing in Ward to bench him and then transfer him out once Kelly settles. Might even start with Kelly. Thinking about it. I see no decent 4.5 mids who will actually play this season. Best I see is Gealish but he'll be eased into the season I suspect.
Open ControlsBlackett to Kelly and JWP to Hoilett?
Open Controls
Very short term. Will transfer out in the first couple weeks once the Kelly/Mariappa dilemma is sorted. But then another one of our gimp CBs could get injured and I could have a bargain on my hands.
Open ControlsRumors suggesting that Rojo and Blind might be joining soon
Open Controls
Blackett's not even in the game yet could be priced at 8.0 for all you know
Open ControlsGreat to see you're on board the Diouf train! Ownership currently stands at 0.5% - solid differential, in my opinion
DEF needs to run a little deeper, though.Open Controls
Has anyone else had a look at the united team and realised that it's even worse then last seasons squad?
Open ControlsTheir manager makes it looks half decent 🙂
Open ControlsHow on earth can you come to this conclusion?
Open ControlsJanuzaj was arguably their best midfield asset, no where to be seen. Their defence looks very brittle.
Open ControlsJanuzaj was given a rest after the World Cup. Just come back. He'll be well involved this season, beginning this Saturday when he starts alongside Rooney.
And our defense has been absolutely water tight, even at times while largely composed of teenagers. So I'm not sure what you're on about.
We are well and truly back this season.Open Controls
Which midfielder of 6.0 or below would you opt for? (excluding Siggy)
A) Henderson
B) Puncheon
C) Snodgrass
D) Mutch
E) Davis
Thanks 🙂Open Controlsis this Arsenal defence nailed on? thx
Debuchy-Chambers- Kol- GibbsOpen Controlsfor those who are questioning the spurs starting lineup, i believe it shall be as follows:
lloris
naughton kaboul vertonghen davies
capoue holtby
lennon lamela erikson
soldado
players worth getting for your teams would be vertonghen, erikson, lamela and holtby (expect him to get forward quite a bit and grab a fair few assists, poch also seems to rate im highly)Open ControlsWould you go for Lamela over Eriksen? I'm quite fond of the dane.
Open ControlsHow are your team looking defensively atm?
Thinking of captaining Lamela...Open Controls
Is holtby certain to start.. could be a great differential pick imo
Open ControlsThanks, would be considering Vert if he plays 🙂
Open Controls
mornings lads, need some feedback on my team thanks 😉
Begovic - Gilks
Cahill - Evans - Ward - Colo - Hutton
Mata - Ramsey - Eriksen - Sterling - Marney
Rooney - Costa - BojanOpen ControlsStarting to see the value in Sterling-Costa over Hazard/Fab-Sturridge.
I would ease off United defence a little bit, still don't think they are all that they're made up to be. And I'm a United fan. Evans/Jones/Smalling are just too prone to individual errors.Open Controls
Just realised that if Long leaves, Snoddy might end up playing supporting striker 😯
Could be a bargain at that priceOpen ControlsIs puncheon still on penalties? Chamakh could go down like a little school girl
Open ControlsAny news on evans?
should i swap him out for jones?Open ControlsI have, but to be honest considering scrapping United defence completely. Still think they'll struggle with the defenders they have. I'd probably rather Debuchy or Lovren now
Open Controls
If he scores against an unsettled utd defense on Saturday Bony will be up by 0.3 no danger next week...(BUR,WBA)
Open ControlsThat's a very good point. May plump for him over the uncertainty of the City duos' game time.
Open Controls
My final team ready for GW1?
--------------------- | Foster | Krul | -----------------------

Open Controlshahaha i forgot the defence

Scorer sand assists in the united game?
Open ControlsGuys
Anybody know if Fabianski will start before Tremmel.
CheersOpen ControlsYep
