The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Green Windmill is keeping 1.0 in the bank to address any issue that may arise from the first week’s games or for a rainy day. Is he right to keep this back? He is also open to suggestions to improve his bench and wonders whether Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard may be a risk given his reduced pre-season. Could his team mate Cesc Fabregas be a better choice?

    Got a couple of issues with my team that I wanted advice on

    Begovic (Gilks)
    Ward | Chambers | van Aanholt ( Moore | Wisdom )
    Gerrard | Ramsey | Fábregas | Mata | Sigurdsson
    Rooney | Costa ( Bojan )

    1. Initially I had intended to rotate Siggy and Boj, but more recently I've started having doubts. Any other good Mid/Forw rotation combinations you can suggest?
    2. Anyone clearly better than Moore for £4,5 or less?

        I'm not sold on Bojan. Wondering if I should instead try and bring in Dzeko for City coverage and replace Siggy with bench fodder 😐

      Cant have gerrard, id probbaly downgrade him to a hendo, puncheon and upgrade defence which looks v weak

        See if I'd picked Sterling, it would've been alright wouldn't it? 🙂

        Gerrard has pks, fks and corners under his belt. And a history of being a consistent fpl gem.

        I'll have to find the moneh to upgrade my defence from elsewhere then ._.

      I like the idea of Begovic as they have a fairly easy start to the season. Not sure on Gilks though, Burnley and Stoke both have a hard GW 3.

      you could go Austin and Puncheon? C Palace and QPR rotate well, I have a Caulker / Ward pairing in defence rotating quite nicely

      It's a good looking team. Chambers might lose his place in a couple weeks but he should start the season. I like Chester at 4.5. Would appear to be fairly nailed on in a hull team that are starting to look like a solid premiership team. Only issue would be rotation risk if Steve Bruce decides to rotate a bit with Hull being in europe to keep people fresh.

      It looks good overall. Some things I wonder about
      A. Chambers will probably only play a couple of weeks. What will you do when he is out?
      B. I like Gerrard, but I think there will be less penalties now that Suarez is gone.
      C. Bojan, who knows? Could go either way.

      I had Siggy all the way but switched him to Young today. But I am not entirely happy about it.
      Moore is one of the best 4.0. For 4.5 I guess you can find better and more sure of starts...

        Probably Chester like the other Gentleman suggested. But who knows, we could have other transfer targets after a couple of gameweeks 😐

        Counting on Sturridge and Sterling!

        I'm hoping one of Bojan or Siggy pay off.

        Let me know of some of those better defenders 🙂

          I´m not sure I can find better, but I would think Vlaar is a safer pick for nailed-on-ness. But I don´t fancy Villa keeping many clean sheets anyway so...
          Maybe Taylor in Swansea is a better pick (unless they buy another CB).

          The thing I learned about myself and transfers is that they will never go as I plan. It is always more pressing transfers to be done in attack and midfield. It always takes weeks for me to replace a non-playing defender. Because I don´t want to take a hit for a defender. Therefor I always try to pick a set of defenders that I can stick with.

      Lovren and Cahill - both guaranteed minutes whereas Azpi is becomign a bit more of a risk....Jose loves him but he also loves Ivanovic and Luis.

      Personally would prefer to upgrade Jutkiewicz from the get go, but otherwise can't really fault your team

        Thanks!Yeah, he is a punt I guess, but he seems to be nailed on and have good form (and most of all he costs 5.0). I like to rotate a cheap forward and a cheap midfielder and splash the cash elsewhere.

        Who would you upgrade him to? 8.0 would be available.

          Jovetic! At least for the first few games, best £8 mill pick currently.

          If you can get another £0.5 million then make it Dzeko. Maybe go for Krul / Foster rotation? Would free up an extra £1 million for you and their fixtures are very good !

      Begovic at Stoke is good enough to be played as a solo keeper. You have the luxury of downgrading your second keeper.

      I would do Terry->Cahill.

      Interesting Jutkiewicz pick.

      Oh and you're over-investing in the United attack 🙂

        I think Terry is more of a goal threat than Cahill and I believe both are nailed on. But who knows...

        Until today I had Shaw, Mata, Rooney, but I don´t want to start with a united player that is unfit and may be injured... I think three United is essential because of fixtures and no CL-rotations.

      Jutkiewicz would be my choice for an upgrade as well.

      Also, I'd downgrade Lovren and look to beef up Young/Albrighton.

          I've been tempted with Jack Grealish at AVFC - seems to be flavour of the month. If he gets on I can see him getting an assist or two. Would be a punt though.

      1. Barkley has a hard run of fixtures.
      2. Rio is an injury waiting to happen, if you've got the 0.5 upgrade it to Caulker.

        Yeah, Barkley is a wait and see player in my team, but I'd rather have him now at 7.0 then see him replicate last year's form and rise out of reach.

        If Rio goes, I'll likely ship him out for Isla or another 4.5'er.

      very nice IMO. Jones is bit injury prone but can easily be swapped out, Terry may get rested later in the season but will definitely start in the beginning and is always solid value. Rio bit of a risk but worth a gamble when you have other solid choices.

      not sure how quickly Bojan will settle but looks a good balanced team

          fair enough, my only worry with him is that Hughes is still adapting the way Stoke play which will make it harder for him to settle and he has struggled to be prolific everywhere he has gone so far. Although he is priced nicely so could prove em wrong and be well worth the punt

    Feel I've been swayed by pre-season to include Costa at the expense of my defence.... thoughts?

      Not bad, only problems are defence is a bit weak specially with Jones' injury history. Midfield and Fwds are solid though.

          I'd probably downgrade Jones to Ward or another 5 allowing you to upgrade Moore/Hutton/bartley

      pretty good tbf. Only concern would be 2 4.0 defenders that might not play. If you're happy playing PVA and Bojan every week then it's ok. I'd consider DDG > Begovic and upgrade either Albrighton or Bartley (I think Kelly at Palace who will surely nail down a starting role sooner rather than later, or Coloccini to rotate with PVA). I like Steve Davis at Southampton as a 5.0 midfielder as well.

    Still can't settle on a team, main dilemma is getting Hazard in. Went to the Chelsea game yesterday and Fab just doesn't look threatening enough going forward compared to Haz

        Don't see any good strikers below 8.5 and Jovetic's game time worries me because I don't think Aguero is too far away.

        Hazard got 80 minutes last night and I do think he'll start mainly because the replacements: Oscar, Willian and Schurrle all played more at the WC and have had even less pre season

    Hello everyone, thoughts on which team you think is better please?

    Team A
    Begovic, Guzan
    Azpil , Evans (Jones if injured), Cameron (Ward, Vlaar)
    Fabregas , Eriksen, Nasri, Sterling (Sigurdsson)
    Bojan, Rooney Dzeko with 0.5 left

    Team B
    Same goal keepers and defence as team A
    Eriksen, Young, Sigurdsson Sterling
    Bojan Rooney Costa
    This leaves me with 10.5 million and needing another midfielder and i have no idea who to choose i'm leaning towards Ramsey

    Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

      Quite like it, 8/10 for me.
      Most obvious punts/question marks are wisdom(playing time), bojan (will he match expectations) & siggy (what position will he play/are swa any good?)

    Atm it looks like this:

    Begovic (Gilks)

    C. Davies, Ward, Caulker (N. Taylor, Wisdom)

    Ramsey, Hazard, Mata, Ward-Prowse (4.5)

    Sturridge, Rooney, Jovetic

    0.5m in the bank.

    Am i investing in too many high priced forwards and leaving myself short at the back? Just Can't decide if i need to drop some high price and have some more mid priced players.

    Any thoughts/marks out of 10?

      Too heavy up top for me, yeah.

      With those three up front, then you'd have to go with at least four in defence or midfield and I can't see the depth there for a nice balance.

      Personally I would downgrade Jovetic to a 5-6m FW and either spread the 2-3 across the defence or as a direct upgrade on JWP.

        Cheers, I may do that, just felt I needed one of City's attack and the only mid of theirs i fancy is Yaya but can't seem to fit him in. Silva is a great player but don't know if it will translate to fantasy.

      Defence is too costly for my taste.

      I'd downgrade one, maybe two of Luis, Lovren and Debuchy, whilst swapping out Caulker for the more adventurous Isla, and use the excess cash to beef up Jenderson or Bojan.

    Thoughts appreciated. Defence is giving me a massive headache. No Chelsea defence but I think all the others are nailed on and hopefully Kelly will nail down a starting spot sooner rather than later.

    Reasoning:

    I originally had Begovic in goal with 3 chelsea players of Cahill, Fabregas & Costa. However, I really wanted Sterling in my team as well as I think he will explode this season. By taking out Fabregas for Sterling I was able to bring in Courtouis for Begovic. I think Chelsea will be very strong defensively this season so I'm able to double up there with the attacking cover of Costa. It allows me to fit Sterling into my team who if he carries on his form from the 2nd half of last season, would reach almost 250 points!!!

    What do you all think???

      Are you certain Courtois is starting over Cech? Replace Evans asap as he and Shaw sustained injuries in their previous match.

      Regarding the Chelsea defence, I've learnt never to over-invest in anything in this game. But good luck to you sir 😀
