A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

Be there at the birth via this link, or witness the new dawn via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Mannone - Krul

Felipe Luis - Davies - Wisdom - Coloccini - Vlaar

    Fabregas - Sanchez - Eriksen - Sigurdsson - Albrighton

    Rooney - Costa - Jovetic

Could you offer any advice to get me up to speed? Many thanks!

Currently on Davis but looking to switch to Aluko as it would now seem that he will be paired up top with Jelavic and Aluko is listed as a midfielder. Worried about these points though:

    1. Will Aluko be utilised mainly for Europa?
    2. Will Aluko get more points than Davis in first 6 GW?
    3. Will Hull suffer attacking potential from Europa?

    Cheers

Anyone looking at Remy Cabella? Just watched a YouTube video on him there and he looks great, although I know it's only YouTube.

Still, he's proven that he can score goals and Montpellier were crap while he was there so he should have no problems at Newcastle... for only 7.5 in midfield...

The major problem is GW1 (man city at home).. but then they actually have some nice fixtures after that too...

Sterling GW1 and then swap to Cabella GW2?

planning transfers like that never works amongst the usual gw1 chaos

if you want him, get him in from the start

I would estimate that Sterling should score 4 more points than Cabella in GW1, with a potentially even higher ceiling, he could get 2 vs Southampton, whereas I don't see Cabella getting 2 vs City.. So it's a gamble on Sterling performing GW1, you don't think it's worth it no? :/

I just hate that my punt starts off the season against the champions then..

I get your logic, it's just that in GW1 pretty much every year there are 3/4 players who emerge as good prospects who you might want, also you might want to get rid of a few of your players if they get injured/unexpectedly dropped/red carded. So if you plan a gw1 transfer it really restricts your options at an important time of the season, when all the bandwagons start and new prospects become clear

2 years ago everybody was planning their gw1 transfer of torres to rooney (chelski had a dgw week 1), then michu happened in week 1 and everybody who jumped on that bandwagon had a lot of success. Planning transfers ahead is a bad idea, you'll want to me trying to get on an early season price rise wagon, with your overall team value in mind.

Yeah I know, so then I'd have to fork out another -4 in order to also do the Cabella transfer as well as jumping on any essential bandwagon, but I think it could be worth it as I expect Sterling to earn those 4 points at least for me in GW1, especially if Cabella doesn't even play.

But if Sterling comes out and scores a brace are you going to want to get rid of a player who's obviously on some pretty good form? Similarly if he comes out and scores nothing you're going to be trading a player out and taking a points hit no doubt.

I would just chose the player who you think will do better over the opening 6 fixtures and stick with them.

If he came out and scored a brace I'd still ship him as I'd need the funds elsewhere for upgrades (like Jovetic -> Kun etc) and Sterling has 2 horrible fixtures in GW2 and GW3... I get your point though, another reason to just start with Cabella... Leaning towards that now. Was just seeing what people thought of my idea 🙂

Maybe but then maybe you already want to do a transfer and you're at - 8. You need sterling to outscore whoever you play instead by 4 points basically. If you think he will then go for it, but I'd advise getting the team you want and using transfers to deal with injuries and bandwagons

He's an awkward price, for a little more you can get proven players who you know will get you points and for a little less you can get decent budget options and invest the extra money elsewhere. A wait and see for me.

I think he'll fail at 5.5 with high ownership, I would say that he'd succeed at 4.8 with low ownership as the expectations would be much lower and an assist would be a good thing as opposed to a disappointment, all about perspective 😉 😎 😆

They did well last season and still have a good squad with some interesting new signings. After last season anything below seventh or eighth should be an underperformance. I think they will survive...but will underperform...probably finish about 14 or 15.

    "The Pre-Season Team"

    Begovic
Cahill Debuchy Chambers | Wisdom Duff
Sigurdsson Ramsey Mata Sterling | Marney
    Jovetic Rooney Costa

Taking a punt with Jovetic as he might not play a full 45 minutes this GW or even play at all next GW. Hopefully he plays both GWs fully.

I guess if I truly wanted to make this "The Pre-Season Team" I'd have to make a few changes such as Terry over Cahill 😛

Baines not a bit over the top? Way to expensive for my liking.

So will Jovetic start or is it still all about Dezko or cheap City goals?
