ENTRY HAS NOW CLOSED AND THE DRAW HAS BEEN MADE

On Wednesday night the doors were kicked open. After days of speculation, frustration and some unlikely conspiracies, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) launched a new site, new rules and a new start to our Fantasy seasons.

The player list tinkering is now taking place in earnest as the ardent Fantasy Managers look to steal a march on the casual brigade. Leagues are already in place – sign-up’s underway.

The “classic” Fantasy Football Scout League is already available via this code (code: 490-626). Now, though it’s time to take on the behemoth that is now our ten (the impending Reserve League included) Head to Head leagues…

Those of you that were involved in our Head to Head leagues last year should, all being well, have already received the code to your new division for next season (if not, details follow later on how to rectify this – there are deadlines so don’t delay) not long after the game went live, so now it’s down to enticing new entrants.

Last year we ran seven (twenty man) Head to Head leagues. This season we are going to add another two onto the pile leaving us with nine of these in total as we continue to grow and grow – this opens up 38 more places (alongside 6 spaces already confirmed to be filled in Head to Head 7) for our community to snap up. If you want to try and squeeze into FFS H2H 8 (with Fantasy Football Scout business brain Chris, or “elfozzie” to you) or FFS H2H 9 (with myself, sorry folks!) be sure to follow the upcoming instructions…

Please email me at andy@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with the heading “FFS Head to Head: New Entry” with these very specific details as entry:

  1. Fantasy Football Scout User Name (nickname used to post comments with)
  2. Full name
  3. Link to your Fantasy Premier League team or ID number

Make sure you provide the correct link. This can be found by clicking ‘History’ under your kit on your team page. It should be of the form ‘http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/X/history/’ (where X is your unique 1 to 7 digit team ID number – for example, mine is 89). N.b. links are represented differently than in past years so don’t get caught out.

If you fail to provide all of these details or enter by the closing date below, then your entry will become invalid so make sure to check everything is correct.

Deadlines are going to be tighter this year, so you’ll need to be quick as entry for these closes just a couple of weeks away at midnight (GMT) on Friday July 29 – a week today. All valid entries will then be put into a (hypothetical) pot, with 44 drawn at random and assigned to a league based on their final ranking from last season.

If, by the time deadline for entry closes, there are also any unclaimed spots in the pre-determined seven Head to Head leagues above, then places will also be up for grabs and added into the mix for new applicants to potentially sneak their way in; a “golden ticket” up the newly formed league structure all the way to FFS H2H 1 could also be on the cards if you’re lucky and did well enough last season.

This is where the qualifiers for the aforementioned seven leagues get their instructions if they need them. If you haven’t yet received an email with your new league code then please get in touch with me using exactly the same instructions as for new applicants but header your email with “FFS Head to Head: League Code” instead, and ask for your code. All of those who qualified by finishing in the top 28 places in the Reserve League last year, for example, will need to email me as I don’t have any of your contact details on record – the onus is upon you to claim what is yours in the next week. Be fast to make sure you don’t miss out on what you earned last year.

Finally, for those already qualified, you’ll also need to make sure your team is registered under the same email as last season as I will be checking the 2010/11 scores to verify your entries.

The process of promotion and relegation from these leagues are perhaps best left to be show in image form one more time so as my garble doesn’t confuse anyone. If you have any queries then don’t hesitate to comment (I’ll do my best to respond quickly), email (be aware I expect to be inundated with these) or tweet (perhaps most likely for me to see) in my direction and I’ll do my best to get back to you. The picture representation once again is…

There you go – that’s more than enough to take in for now. Don’t forget to get your emails in before the H2H league deadline – next Friday.

What are the thoughts on Maxi Rodriguez? (If he stays at the Pool) He had a very promising end to the year, is well priced (7.5) and doing ok in Pre-season too.

Sure he hasn't been in the squad consistently over the years but of course Dalglish hasn't been boss for long - he definitely seems to bring out the best in Maxi in the short time he's been in charge. Is it just an end of season peak or does he have the potential to stay in the first team for the season? He is a World class player on his day after all.

I'd say stay away as he aint guaranteed to even start. He's one of those that you could get in after a few weeks if it looks like hes going to hold down a place reguraly and scoring some points.

Yeah, I know what you mean - thing is he's been in Dalglish's squad consistently and just scored two past Malaysia, I reckon he stands a good chance of featuring strongly. There seems to be far too many recurring recommendations for players (as ever) but there are a few like Maxi I reckon could be a good differential and capable of huge points on a good day.

I said similar about Chelsea, everyone is basing "facts" on last years rotation and players yet seem oblivious to the fact there's an entirely new manager in charge who will probably be fielding players he feels better suit his tactics than the cautious Hiddink of last year.

That is true and if he does feature strongly then he def would be on my radar because as you say Dagleish seems to be able to get the best out of him.

He could well be a good alternative to the usual suspects!

I have Suarez and Kelly in my team already though. Being a Man Utd supporter I dont know if I could live with more Liverpool than Man United players in my team! 🙂

I've got Suarez and Kelly too. I think Kelly will nail down the rb position. With Maxi, the picture may become clearer if Aquilani and Meireles are sold. Wouldn't read too much into the friendly results, Kenny's been switching teams at half time. Agree he could be a good differential, but I think he won't hold down a place unless Gerrard or Suarez are unavailable.

Yeah, I've also got Carroll with the uncertainty over Suarez' initial games (and typically I'm on hols for first two game weeks and no idea if I'll be able to get internet access easy in southern Portugal!) - I think Liverpool will be very attacking this season but a little frail at the back. I may have Maxi as captain - the gamble will either pay off or he won't play and my VC will come in anyway! (Don't bring up the chances of being brought on for 10 mins ;))

the problem with the midfield prices is that most are not worth considering below 6m.

I'm also keen to hear from anyone who has some good 4.5 -5.5 mids in mind among teams with favourable early fixtures.

I still think Ben Watson could be good, if on pens. but he is 5.5m.

Agree with that. Midfield bargains will emerge after a few GW's, but at the moment there's not much below 6. Moses might be worth a punt.

I think gordon is injured so replace him, de gea good choice so your 2nd keeper should really be cheap.
Also taarbt looks like hes leaving, you could put in scott sinclair of swansea hes cheaper at 6.0 and you will have 0.5 spare.

      Who is your third striker?

You have no obvious captain choices.

Gordon is injured and won't be #1 when he returns imo.

Ferguson has hinted that De Gea will be number one long term, but may not start initially. Even if he does, I wouldn't double him up with Evra given Utd's opening fixtures.

Taarabt won't be there - going to PSG.

Wilshere and Mikel aren't great fantasy material.

      You're missing a third forward 😛

you need to be more flexible. Very hard to predict who will be the good players in the first few weeks so you need to be able to get on bandwagons quickly.
You need at least one 12-10m forward
You need at least one 12-10m mid

Mikel is a def mid ...they are dirt in fantasy terms.
Cole at chelsea is a good pic as is kompany..but defence as a whole is too expensive

Consider beefing up your mid more

also, look at fixtures. assou ekotto is good for the first game... but terrible thereafter

And gordon as a gk, really. De Gea also has bad early fixtures and is not nailed on first choice.

Welcome. Too much money on the defence. The points mainly come from goals and assists, which is why Mikel is poor - he doesn't do either.

Try and choose good value players with good fixtures who stand a good chance of playing regularly.

All the best with it. Enjoy.

Just my opinion: drop mikel, no good @ fpl, will probably get you 3points max a game. maybe go with given in place of de gea to free up 1.5mil & drop gordon as he is not a def starter for 4.5mil you could get kenny who when needed might get you some save points if your 1st choice doesnt play. nice backline, has alot of cover maybe downgrade hughes to simpson/brown & upgrade assou-ekotto to samba/cahill/jags (depending on who moves to a "better" club. midfield, drop mikel as above, taarabt will gone by the start of the season so think of some1 else (with the 1.5mil from the keeper change you could upgrade here). forwards: will beckford & hernandez play every week? if so great if not you will be caught here, im guessing your 3rd striker is cheap & undicided? maybe holt? hope thats some help? best of luck 🙂

i dont know much about swansea but from what i read/hear graham is going 2be there main forward... i dunno tho! as long as he is playing when you need him from your bench then you're grand. as the lads said above, downgrade your keepers/defence & upgrade your midfield & forwards. most ppl on here go with a strong front 8 with 6 def starters & 2 that may rotate well. and at the back have 3 strong enough fantasy players with 2 cheap players on the bench that when needed will be playing 4 their club (simpson @ 4mil will be in most teams id say)

Yeah, they were the one's I had spotted but they ain't much. Saying that, last year I had Foley for the whole season except for the last couple of weeks when I could afford to upgrade. he came off my bench during that time just the once, he had a clean sheet, a goal and 3 bonus something like 15 points. Oh how i smiled that week.

Although this didn't beat the Cahill auto captain / snowed off weekend where I was in teh process of swaping my Everton defenders and just so happened to have Baines AND Colemen AND Cahill (c) 54 points from 4 players, rank 340 in the world for that week.

        I smiled alot that week.

I just got a memo (you guys go it too, right?) from a guy from the future who said one of the top 5 (top 5) midfielders in FPL this season (11/12) will be Downing. Apparently the word on the street is that even though he's not cool, he'll be floating in some floaters to Carroll's head, and slippin' in a few to Suarez. Also, Sessegnon is ain't gonna be worth shit. Waste of space. Getting conflicting reports about Bale, but Dempsey will be solidly consistent as always. Actually, the Dalai Lama told me that I shouldn't just pick cool players whose names look nice in my team, but rather I should pick players who score the very many the many the very the points. Ya dig?

Mate I think actually that AVB will play both of them in midfield. Something like 4 3 3. Malouda this year is not gonna be striker, he'll play more deep. Even Zhirkov could get some playing time instead of Malouda. For 1.5m I say Frank all the way. And he is my favorite fantasy player. Whenever I was chasing with him in my team my team is flying.

And ask your self, how many times u r gonna captain Malouda instead of Frank?

    Hi guys,

Light in the back, heavy in front. That's the way I like it.

    Given (Myhill)

Kompany - Bramble - Alcaraz (Simpson - Orr)

Silva - Albrighton - Malouda - Ben Arfa (Gardner)

Van Persie - Zamora - Rooney

But... I really feel I need Bent. Then I can upgrade Bramble as well. Thoughts, ideas? Thx.

has admitted rooney and henandez as hes front 2 and hewnandez is more advanced and what maKES YOU THINK HE WONT
score againist poor defences like arsenal spurs west brom and in view hes more likely to score tha roooney as he will be almost the lone forward with rooney playing in behide him

As i brought up on the last page. Does it seem to anyone else like there is no value in midfield at all this season? Especially the mid priced, around 6-9 mill players. The most expensive defenders are still the same price but the cheaper midfielders have all been hiked up massively.

Seems like spending 7.5 or 8.0 buys you a lot more guaranteed quality and consistency in defence than it does in midfield.

Well defenders score less compared the more expensive mids and strikers sure.

But the highest priced defenders are 7.5 and 8.0 and they guarantee points. 7.5-8.0 simply cannot buy you an attacking mid at a top club and so doesnt guarantee much!

    Bruce new tweet on Sessegnon

Bruce added: “We’ll look to keep him in that second striker role because I always think that’s his best position. And if he can score a few goals, as he has done in the last two pre-season games, then that helps as well.

“He scored three in three towards the end of the season and he’s come back this year in good shape which gives us hope.”

    1) Walker won't play unless he moves
    2) Gibbs has poor first 3 fixtures - maybe look to put him in after
    3) I think you've spent too much money on defence - who are you benching?
    4) I really think you need a top striker instead of 3 mid-range ones
    5) VDV very tough fixtures after GW1 - may be worth the risk though

Erm, I don't like either to be honest based on the fact Ben Arfa may be injured but if you're looking at that sort of price bracket:

Barton & Rodallega? O'Hara and Ba?

      Something like that ...

Fulham have nice fixtures and have a longer pre season under them so will hit the ground running.

Zamora also has a nice bit of potential. So targeting Fulham offensively is waranted in some way.

O hara is a tempter but his early fixtures arent great and with Hunt fully fit now his dominance over set pieces may be cut back and Doyle takes pens - so that leaves perhaps bpss and poor fixtures.

I dont see it in Ba yet, abit too pricey for my liking and not great fixtures. Ben Arfa if fit and 1mil cheaper as a midfielder could be a snip as a second striker. May actually cover him if Injured with Watson of Wigan.

        Anyway thanks for the feedback

I know it's been asked before but has anyone managed to find (or make) a spreadsheet with all the player prices?

I'm not sure if the site is still buggy or it's just my work blocking things but it's not working on IE6 or Chrome on my work PC. On the transfers page it just displays 15 blank shirts instead of my team and the player list won't display at all. I do most of my scouting at work so without knowing the prices I can't really do any planning.

Reason I've gone for Roon is I think Man U coverage is needed - and I don't fancy gamblign on their midfield. Was goign to be RVP + Nani/Young but Roon and Walcott seems safer to me.

Plus I don't think Man U fixtures that bad at all.

Rooney to RVP week 4 is my plan.

Newcastle should be tight enough (opening day at home, new team, new players see a 1-1 type game) and after that RVP has 2 tough games which in last seasons fixtures only got goals through pens.

It will take this luck again so il be going without initially. At least until i know for sure who is staying and going

First thing that hits me is Bosingwa. Think Iva will have the RB slot. Perhpas have a look at Jags/Distin for that price.

Torres is a gamble. WOould much rather have a RVP or Roon who are guarenteed starts and pens.

        Ta mate.

I think you may find that Ivanovic will be playing CB and Bosingwa RB, with Luiz and Alex bench fodder.

I'm probably wrong and pre season will probably answer a few questions.

yeah Torres is a gamble, but this is my gut feeling, he's gonna go big and early.

Last year I had Albrighton and Berbs in my first team for the whole of pre season and then my head took over and swapped for Valencia and Dembele at the last minute.

We it's safe to say, that was teh wrong choice. This year I'm more determined to follow my gut a little bit more, which is where Torres comes from.

Torres gamble could be a big differential and payoff but Id still be wary of the points from the other big guns.

          Chelsea back 4 worth monitoring.

          Think the majority are thinking
          Ivan - Terry - Luiz - Cole

          but time will tell.

Pretty sure I'm gonna purchase 1 chelsea defender considering their early fixtures, but who do you guys think will start? Cech in goal of course and I guess Terry and Cole are nailed on starters as well, but what about the other centre back and right back?
I'm thinking Ivanovic right back and then Luiz the other CB but could also potentially be Alex as CB, what ya think? cheers

I've gone Ivanovic, second top points scorer for Chelsea defenders and I honestly think he is quality at RB - Always a goal threat!
