Obtaining a better balance to your squad is fundamental to Fantasy success. It’s all very well selecting the likes of Frank Lampard and Robin Van Persie but if such luxury choices leave you rummaging around the bargain basement for players that offer little returns, it’s perhaps time for a re-think.

Since the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 2011/12 game launched on late Thursday evening, we’ve been working away in the background and, after many hours of number-crunching, have produced our first set of Projected Points Returns for the upcoming season.

The factors taken into consideration with our Projections are varied- past performance, team tactics, possible rotation, the impact of new signings, susceptibility to injury, the new FPL Bonus Points system and even January 2012‘s African Cup of Nations come into the equation. As pre-season continues and the season unfolds, we will update these figures on a regular basis to offer an up-to-date reflection of each player’s potential going into Gameweek one. Our full list of “Projections” will be released on the Members Area early next week but, over a series of articles, we’re going to start to dissect them right here and now for our Members.

Our aim is to help shape your Fantasy squad for the upcoming campaign with a series of articles highlighting those players who come out favourably in one of the most vital categories- value per Fantasy pound. By identifying the likely returns on offer next season, we pick our way through the positions and look, in the main, at the low-to-mid-price candidates who will hopefully provide that all-important balance required for your Fantasy squad ahead of the start of next season.

We kick off by turning our attentions to the top ten goalkeepers…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

forsester is not listed coz last season he was on loan all season long, and he's transfer listed. he has very slim chances of being nb. 1 for newcastle as (imo) krul will start the season and in case of a drop in performances, mr. reliable will step up.
for gw1 only i can almost be sure that alex will start (size does matter against stoke) after that i think we will see a rotation similar alex/carvalho 2 years ago.
wouldnt it be easier for us if 1 of tehm simply gets injured?

Im looking a lot of teams above.. And I notice that no one's incorporated a City attacker into the equation. Save the strikers. Midfielders?

Is Silva a good call for the first few game weeks?

    My midfield reads

    Silva | Malouda | Taraabt | N'Zogbia | (Tiote)

Should I switch Silva/Malouda to VDV? Of the three which two would you guys call?

Silva is an amazing footballer but doesn't convert talent to points. At 9.5 he is a bit steep and toure is probably a better option. And it's true the spurs fixtures are bad but VDV is a star and is a good season long investment.

i wouldn't bother with silva personally. Fixtures aside, vdv is a much better option than silva, and i don't think the fixtures do enough to give the edge to silva.

Think of a scenario where you have other pressing transfers and end up stuck with silva when spurs' fixtures get better and city's get worse.

I notice that Tevez is in almost no RMTs. Is everyone assuming he will leave? I think it is quite likely he will stay until January at least. If he plays he is a FF must, given his past performances, on penalties and City's fixtures. Silva does better when Tevez doesn't play.

Ive had him in my team since my first draft and everytime(daily) i look at my team i um=nclick him and always end up just keeping him cause i think he is the best choice in a pot full out questions when it comes to strikers (Tevez,Torres,Drogba,Berba etc) as far as him starting the season i really dont know but if history has thught us anything Top managers seem to rest their stars that have play international competitions in the summer break

agreed, bent is a rip off imo... his goals total is good but his goals+assists is not good at all. (Basically he gets almost NO assists)

so youre a geordie, you should know everything, obviously...

Do you think ba will be subbed off quite often? In FF i love the 90 mins guys.. i'm willing to take a slightly worse player who gets 90 mins regularly especially if he's cheaper.

But my heart is somewhat set on ba being magnificent this season.

Haha bless you scored! You always seem more reasonable than that! Im not a geordie no, and far from know everything, just saying my logic for having him right now, no doubt it will change thats the wonder of pre-season!

Ba depends on signings and systems. Cop out I know but true. I think we'll play one up as things stand, and currently he is first choice. However as I say Erdnic is meant to be on his way which would change everything
Persoanlly I have Ben Arfa instead, sounds like should be fit and I like him, could go either way, but v talented (Now I sound like a geordie ;-))

Andy Johnson finished one of the top point scorers in FPL the season Palace went down. I can see Bent easily notching up 15+ goals this season, regardless of how well Villa do. I think 10m is maybe a bit high, but I still think he's a good pick.

Bent is the one I'm struggling with. Fixtures are great, and given chances he'll score (and the changes in baps will suit him as he rarely got some before). It's just that McLeish is bloody defensive that's putting me off, and with Young and Downing leaving it remains to be seen how many chances he'll get.

he wasn't really comparing them as players but making a point about injury doubts.

But i agree with the mid-low priced players you want someone consistent you don't need to transfer out for as long as possible.. better to keep transfers for the big guns.

As I said, Ba is no RVP. I just said that as you said you wouldn't get Ba as he's an injury waiting to happen whereas the same could be applied to RVP but that wouldn't stop you getting him at all.

To me Ba is the best cheap striker option and to not get him as he may get injured is foolish. If someone thinks that a player is a good option play them, and if they get injured take them out.

He talked some nonsense and talking about Carroll didnt seem to make sense either. He needs to leave if he is going to so we can get a LB! Although why we dont get one anyway I dont know! Perch is a NO and Ferguson is a winger who is injured.

Cabaye is quality from what Ive heard and Im looking forward to seeing him too. Need him, Marveux and Arfa all firing

Finally think that I am happy with my team and will probably stick with it barring any super signings, i.e.; sneijder, aguero etc.

    Given
    Rafeal, Hughes, Kompany (Simpson, W.Brown)
    M.Petrov, Nani, VDV, Sessegnon, Tarrabt
    Rooney, Bent (Holt)

Now to stick to 1 transfer a week and try to hold my nerve.

Rafeal is pretty much nailed on I reckon, as is Hughes. The others, I take your point but all six, on the same gameweek? Maybe. Petrov could be a good differential until he gets injured, He's having a good pre season. The games nani doesn't get are the games the subs can step in. Ignoring Nani seems mad considering he was arguably player of the season last year. W. Brown is still an unkown but he moved clubs to get regular games so I am happy to wait and see.

I like this site but I listened to to much advice last season and it confused the shit out of me.

      Fun fact:

If Kompany had been classed as a defender last season he would have scored 135 points, 3.55 ppg.

Lescott, having nailed down a regular place following Toure's drug taking scored 5.6 ppg for the second half of the season.

From looking at pre-season and recent rumours on the team I'd say Malouda is a good call. He's under a lot of pressure and seems more solid than some of the other options we've been using. So my guess would be him followed by Lampard and finally Torres as the wildcard entry.

Some quick calls on players here...What is the general consensus on these options (regardless of how you think they will do overall). Pick one from each:

    1. Foley or Ward (WOL)
    2. Olsson or Shorey (WB)
    3. Simpson or S Taylor (NEW)
    4. Bent or Carroll (AV/LIV)
    5. Watson or Moses (WIG)

Didn't Ward play an advanced role for Wolves last season...like when he scored against Liverpool?

That's like asking if I run out into the rain will a get soaked or just a little wet...I know you will get wet but...

My guess is that he will do good. They were high on the headed goals list and their defense was great. When Roy left everyone thought Hughes would be less likely to keep the defense working yet they did very well. So my guess is he's gonna have another good season. However, his price is high and may not be best choice just yet with team value still at only 100m.

Hmm any chelsea fans in the house?

How have drogba and torres performed together? I don't normally pay too much attention to pre-season.

I currently have RVP, Suarez and Holt but chelseas fixtures are preferable

They haven't played together yet. It's been one or the other. My guess is that Torres will start the season but Drogba is the safer option for us so it depends on what AVB wants to do at the start...None have been brilliant but I'd say Drogba is edging ahead of Torres in terms of stand out performance at this point. I still think Torres will start the season (at this stage)

Did well in the Champions League last season, but looked to me like Prem defences had found him out.

Wasn't that more down to injuries and lacking match sharpeness, rather than poor form?

Decent balance... kuyt is a no no for me. like sessegnon and taraabt will be the star of promoted teams just like adam was last season... provided he doesnt move to PSG in jan.

Kuyt opening day Sunderland home on pens if Gerrard is out as seems to be the story. 1 week punt.

I'd rather start with Malouda as you may find you have other transfers you need to do.

I would be slightly worried about the strength of the front 8 for GW1.

Kuyt/Malouda (fine), Taarabt(fine), Sessegnon (away at Liverpool-bit iffy but doable), Sinclair (away at Man City - no good), Barton (at home to Arsenal - probably fine)
Bent (fine), Rooney (fine), Graham (away at Man City)

You would have to play 4 defenders I guess.
Changing either Graham or Sinclair could sort this out perhaps.

        Yep 4 defenders opening day.

2 city,QPR and Baines. Rotates nicely.

I think covering Liverpool opening day is better than Chelsea at Stoke.

Malouda, Rvp to come in during the coming weeks then

wilshere great player....fantasy however....not a great choice i think mate. Ramsey could be a better shout if fab goes. Bardsley is also a good shout i have been considering...hes just so unexpected.

most peoples teams ive seen RvP is picked over rooney...im leaning towards rooney however because united's pre season has been goals galore and rooney will be involved no matter what.

    nobody inclined to agree?

Yeah Rooney is a good pick but I worry that Man U have goals all over the place and he might play left, right or deep and everything Arsenal does goes through RVP.

    I think I found a good combination:

    Given Kenny
    Kompany Lescott Simpson Orr Skrtel*
    Albrighton Sinclair Tchoyi Yaya Malouda
    Bent Rooney** Holt

*Anybody better than Skrtel for 6.0 (No City Defenders)
    ** Rooney or RVP?

I think its quite a good team tbh. I am not sure who I will captain for the first GW though
