Today’s Members article is the third instalment focusing on player value. We turn our attentions to the top ten midfielders in our Members Projections area and analyse just why we anticipate each of them to be so budget-friendly Fantasy prospects in the upcoming 2011/12 campaign. With three of our top four are already justifying our hopes in early pre-season by finding the net in their respective clubs’ friendlies, some of the names are already blinking brightly on our radars…
RMT
Given (Ruddy)
Kompany, Alcaraz, Hughes (Luiz, Simpson)
Malouda, VDV, N'Zogbia, Taarabt (Sinclair)
Rooney, Zamora, HoltOpen ControlsPlease RMT
Given (Ruddy)
Distin Kompany Vidic Cole (Orr)
VDV N’Zogbia Sinclair (Brunt, Ferguson)
Bent Hernandez BeckfordOpen ControlsHow is it imbalanced? And Im counting on not having to use any bench players besides Brunt so yeah.
Open Controls
How does this grab you....
Cech [4m keeper]
Baines Kompany Hughes [2x4m defenders]
Silva N'Zogbia Barton Sinclair Sessegnon
Bent Suarez Zamora
Best balance I've achieved so far I think. For the last time before the weekend.... Rate! My! Team!Open ControlsSimpson has to be one of the £4mill defenders
Open ControlsWell, it's better than most of the others, imo.
Open ControlsOnly thing I would say with that is with Cech you are pretty only much getting the 6 points where paying the .5 extra for Cole gets you the potiential assists/goals. But then you'd have to lose Baines....
No Rooney or RVP either, but then their fixtures aren't the best so I can see the logic in the Suarez/Bent combo.
It's a good team though boss.Open Controls
Mark
Towards the end of last season I made a choice between Silva and Y Toure. I went for the pricier Silva because I read that on Opta stats he was the more effective player. In the end YT would have been the better value.
Could we have a feature based on last seasons Opta picking out the most likely beneficiaries of the new bonus system. (Charlie would have finished 20th under Opta). I think we would see quite a few teams tweaked with this info.
Apologies if this has already been asked but I have not been on all that often.Open ControlsHey guys, well here is my team, help and advice would be much appreciated
Al-Habsi (Given)
Clichy Kompany Ivanovic (Briggs, Wilkinson)
Toure Benayoun Barton Moses (Ferguson)
Suarez Rooney Van PersieOpen ControlsYou have 5 or 6 serious rotation risks and your whole bench will mostly likely not play. This is not a good situation to be in.
Open Controls*most likely
Open ControlsOnly one of that bench is really unlikely to play.
Open Controls
Arggghhhh!!!!
Why is picking a balanced team so hard!
So who are my weak players too change?
I've been watching pre season and going on that form I thought it looked pretty good?
I know if a get a cheaper striker I can strengthen the rest of my team, but come on Suarez Rooney and Rvp that means points galore 🙂Open ControlsI wouldn't base too much on preseason.
Ivanovic, Clichy, Benayoun & Moses could be rotation risksOpen ControlsI wouldn't say he would be nailed on just because N'Zogbia has gone. He didn't get that many minutes last season and there are also players like McCarthy, Gomez & McArther as well as Stam being able to play right mid.
Open Controls
Clichy is surely nailed on?
Who is this Kolorov, and who decided he was a defender?Open ControlsAghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Open Controls
Who does Mata play more like? Fabregas or Nasri? I haven't really seen him play, so I'm just asking whose place he might take up and who might leave because of his arrival.
Also, what's your take on Marveaux? attacking midfielder for 5m..Open ControlsMata is an skill winger, guess in the nani mould. Not powerful like malouda but quick and skillful. I'm pumped arsenal look like getting him.
Open ControlsTaken a punt on Marveaux, think it might take him a while to get going though... probably more of a reflection of wanting to avoid Barton (as his presence in my team makes me feel a bit sick, rather than for points reasons)... Good value in NEW midfield though, several options... so waiting to see how pans out.
I'm not a Mata expert, but he seems to be in between the 2... depends on exits. Could easily see both the above leaving, and I would guess it would be less risky to have him wide(left) but can play either. I saw interviews where he seemed to want to move centrally (don't they all), but depends on exits.
(if he comes in that is!)Open ControlsHe plays like he has been stung by a bee, with great touch.
Open Controls
Morning all.
Please RMT.
Given (Ruddy)
Ca$hley, Kompany, Jagielka, Rafael, Simpson
Silva, VDV, N'Zogbia, Sinclair, Moses
RVP, Zamora, HoltOpen ControlsThere or thereabouts. Don't think Rafael gives you a guaranteed route into the Utd back 4. Moses possibly worth the punt for the first 3 fixtures.
Open ControlsCheers buddy, was hoping that Rafael's pre-season form would put him in good stead to start.
other alternative is (to incorporate Nani mainly) any opinions much appreciated.
Given (Ruddy)
Ca$hley, Kompany, Robinson, Rafael, Simpson
Silva, VDV, Nani, Sinclair, Moses
RVP, Davies, BeattieOpen ControlsIf RVP gets injured, your front line won't be yielding you many points. I recommend two good players in each position.
Open ControlsAgree that Davies/Beattie is pretty poor - but any player can get injured, and given RVP's price you can transfer hime out for virtually anyone.
Open Controls
"I recommend two good players in each position"...why???
Open ControlsDepends on the formation....
3-4-3 in my case...
2 solid defenders and 3 rotational ones
3 solid midfielders and 2 rotational ones
2 solid strikers and 1 cheaper option
Gives a good core to your team, but also allows flexibilityOpen Controls
Heard a similar comment yesterday, but I just can't agree that any Swansea or Norwich players will be bringing close to these returns (no offence to you Swans/Canaries).
I can never remember further back than one season - but has anyone ever returned Adam-esque points in a relegated side? Surely Blackpool were a one off?
Usually the promoted teams conceed (a heck of) a lot and struggle to find the net, this doesn't scream fantasy investment.Open ControlsNot saying they aren't bad '5th men' as they play every week, are relatively cheap and may notch in with the odd decent return - but 150+ points? 10+ goals? Not for me thank you.
Open ControlsIn midfield I will have 3 nailed on starters then 2 of promoted sides "key" men in a home rotation policy in midfield (Sinclair & Taarabt)
They won't score massively but for the price I think they are worth the punt... If one fails easy swap to another 6/6.5m mfOpen ControlsI couldn't agree more, I think the Adam factor means people are overlooking consistent prem performers for a 5% chance of getting lucky. Not a fan of trying to find a possible Bullard or Adam, when the pitfalls are too big.
Open ControlsAdam might be a one off, but Odemwingie played for a newly promoted side too.
So did Doyle, that first season Wolves came up.
It's worth the punt, in my opinion.Open ControlsBullard! There's another one!
Rotation might not be a bad idea Yeates. But the points projections and RMTs seem to be based on the fact that Adam hauled in the points at places like Anfield and Old Trafford last season - i'd be absolutely amazed if Scott Sinclair ripped it up there this season.
I suppose my approach is very much a risk averse, will perform well but won't threaten to win it approach...Open ControlsI just think for that sort of money and the fixtures they have its worth a home rotation policy... Both QPR and Swansea have winnable Home fixtures in the first 6 game weeks...
After then I will pick one of them and stick with him for the rest of the season.
I am in no way saying they will do an Adam (free of nature in FF terms)... I'd love to be proved wrong though!Open Controls
I think the thimg is the likes of tarrabt and sinclair are pivotal to what those sides do. Therefor, even if the team has a bad season they are going to be involved in alot of the goals. I think they're good value because most established prem teams aren't set up like that
Open ControlsHmm, I see your point, but Blackpool grabbed 55 goals last season.
Top scoring relegated teams from previous years:
09/10 - Burnley - 42
08/09 - Newcastle - 40
07/08 - Birmingham - 46 (in this season Derby managed 20)
06/07 - Charlton - 34
I just don't see it.Open Controls
I think you may be right - but Wigan also have big problems, so personally I shall also be avoiding them ...
Open ControlsWigan defensively yes, but for the first 6 GW's they have good fixtures I shall be going for Rodallega as my cheaper striker.
Open ControlsIt's your choice - you are placing a lot on the shoulders of Moses and Watson. I can see Wigan having a goal drought, myself. And the only player I would consider from them is Watson.
Open Controls
Andy Carroll? He'd have matched Adam if he'd been fit all season and continued his form.
I agree that Blackpool were exceptional, though. People shouldn't expect anyone to replicate the kind of returns that Adam (and Campbell to a degree) were able to get last year.Open ControlsI think Andy Carroll is underrated on this site. He was on fire for the first 6months at Newcastle then he got injured.
He is playing for a much better team now, if he starts every (most) games then I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the top scorer.Open Controls

Apologies if this has already been asked but I have not been on all that often. Posted this earlier in wrong place, sorry for repetition.Open ControlsThere was an article about the new BP system last week which can be found here:
http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2011/07/22/the-fpl-bonus-points-moving-the-goalposts/
The new BP system is not ostensibly based on Opta stats per se, but as the article discusses there are one or two categories of Opta stat which seems to correlate with EA index and will be of use.
I have no doubt that there will be more articles on the correlation between Opta data and the EA index but these will almost certainly be members only because Opta stats cost money.
Hope this helps in some way.Open Controls
A) Torres and RVP with Moses and Walters or
B) VDV and Lampard with Zamora and Holt?
Just can't decide whether to put the big bucks in fwds or mfs. 😕
Rooney other fwd, Sessignon, Sinclair, Taarabt othet mids.Open ControlsCan't afford Roddy.
Open Controls
HELP!!!!!!!!
Just can't decide on my team??
Midfield is giving me the most problems as the prices this season are crazy high!
Who are the bargains that are gonna score me points?
Picked, Barton, Toure, Moses, Yossi (Ferguson)
Very limited funds so help and decent advice would be great.Open ControlsBarton - points machine this season
Toure - not sold on his points potential this year with Aguero coming in...
Moses - one of the best cheap players when N'Zogbia goes
Yossi - rotation risk
Ferguson - read lots about him being injured and when fit gets no where near first team!
The rest of your team must be strong, but MF scores on average the most points!Open ControlsThanks for the advice, looks like I'm nearly there then?
What about ethrington from Stoke? Seems Like every goal
They score he has something to do with it? Just sucks they got chelski first game?
And I guess Yossi is a very big punt but has stepped up in pre season?
People are saying clichy is rotation risk? That can't be true can it?Open ControlsEtherington is involoved in most Stoke attacks, but not for me due to fixtures....
I would wait on Yossi - Chelsea will spend big on a CM (Pastore is rumored) the Yossi will head to the bench!
Clichy can be rotated with Lesscott and Kolarov (Kompany is a much better option)Open Controls
Osman, Walters, Sessegnon
Open ControlsThe Scout's analysis above on midfield budgitos is a good place to start.
Personally, I like Taraabt and Sinclair as you can rote them each week. If WBA improve further, then Brunt might be worth some investment. O Hara is another fave.Open ControlsPersonally there is way too much hype for Taraabt and Sinclair. I'd rather go with proven MFs and there are several who fit the bill at 6m.
Open ControlsDon't like Wolves or WBA's fixtures. Come to that, don't like Norwich, Swansea or Wigan's fixtures either. Still picking the Swan's goalkeeper. May have a punt on a QPR player ...
Open ControlsApart from you? Everton, MUN, Villa, Chelski, FULHAM,
Open Controls
I have had Rooney in my team since the night the game opened but am having second thought. United have 6 potential strikers this season. Welbeck has been in excellent form during pre-season, as has Macheda. Owen has been promised a bigger part and there is no way that Berbatov is simply going to sit on the bench!. Hernandez is a rotation risk for sure, I think if he was a nailed on starter he would be 12 million easy. But Rooney...will he also suffer the risk of rotation with the wealth of striking options available in the squad?
Open ControlsFrom a United fan Rooney is the only Nailed on player in United's attack.... The rest is a mystery
Open ControlsIm a united fan...I agree, but not 100% - just a nagging doubt
Open Controls
Most United attacking players will be rotated from time to time but not Rooney. He will play almost every minute of every game.
Open Controls
Did anyone see the Fulham game last nught? What position were Briggs and Riise playing?
Open Controlswait til Dempsey starts playing/training after the gold cup and see if briggs still has a place in the team before you put him in. i seriously doubt it though
Open Controls
Chris Eagles has gone to Bolton - BONUS 😆
Open ControlsBurnley fan? 🙂
Open Controls
I think I've got it cracked, tell me I'm wrong.
Kenny
Cole Hughes Kompany
Cahill Taarabt N'Zogbia Dempsey
Bent Torres Rodallega
Given Simpson Tiote BrownOpen ControlsI think picking the right captain is important this year as always. All of your choices for captain there are riskey.
Open ControlsAgreed, in terms of captaincy choices i think you're right not to have any Man U players in there as their fixtures aren't great until GW7. No MCY or ARS attacking potential? Who would you captain GW1 and GW4?
Torres is a risk imo, if you're spending that much surely just get Lampard until you know who Chelsea will rotate.Open ControlsDempsey for opening game week, he is very under rated here fro some reason especiallyafter the run in he had at theback end of last season
Open Controls
Some risky choices in there imo - Cahill, Demps,Torres, Rod, Tiote, Brown.
This seems a team that is married to the fixture list. Remember that players like RVP and VDV are fixture proof.Open ControlsThanks all, I'll give it some thought
Open Controls
Just picked first draft of team any Advice or opionions would be great. Thanks in advice
Al-Habsi,Given
Cole,Kompany,Swacross,Simpson,De laet
Nzogbia,Silva,Cahill,Moses,Pennent
Rooney,Gyan,RodallegaOpen ControlsThot bout benayoun but a risk or start we torres instead of Rooney
Open Controls
anyone else thinking drogba may start at stoke and then torres for the following 2 home games?
Open Controlsi havent had a proper look yet but my team at the moment looks very different to everyone elses on here!!
Open ControlsSpit it out that tripling in defense 😉
Open Controlsnah no tripling until i wildcard. so far ive got
al habsi/de vries
simpson/bramble/baines/alcaraz/foley
lamps/nzog/albrighton/sinclair/taarabt
bent/beckford/torres
thinking ill go for aguero over torres for the first gwk then switch to torres after
not really looked properly yet but getting a new laptop today n the mrs is workin the weekend so got a good chance to get it sortedOpen ControlsIf your like me... I've said a million times my team is "sorted" then changed it 1 hour later! The tinkering continues!
Open Controls
Probably not a bad thing... How is it shaping up?
Open Controlsthats potentially a good thing! the generic FFS team was formed a few weeks back and still the RMT's keep coming...
Open Controls
is this the year rodwell delivers after all the promising talk about him?
wouldn't get anywhere near my team at the moment, but at 5.5 I reckon he may be one to look out for if he is in moyes' first team plans...Open ControlsTotally agree. One to watch without a doubt.
Open ControlsI think u r talking about Osman, but he is too expensive and I gave up. Its Cahill or nowhere IMO. I want piece of Tim after GW1. They had cracking fixtures and first time after a while he had proper summer brake.
P.S. Those commenting about low starters blablabla, remember the Law on averages.Open Controlsnope definately talking about rodwell!
Open Controls
Thoughts on the following appreciated:
Given, Ruddy
Cole, Kompany, Kelly, Baines, Bramble
Albrighton, VDV, Moses, Sessegnon, Taarabt
Bent, Suarez, Graham
0.5 in bankOpen ControlsMorning! 🙂
Open Controls
yeates45, thanks for the advice earlier, I swopped Lamps for Malouda and can now afford Roddy. Hows my squad looking?
Schwarzer, De Vries
Cole, Kompany, S Taylor, Gabbidon, Briggs
VDV, Malouda, Sessignon, Taarabt, Sinclair
Rooney, Zamora, Rodellega.Open ControlsOrr and Simpson - two defenders likely to get regular starting places?
Open ControlsYep.
Open Controlsive posted before but after watching orr for 6+ years regularly at bristol city i really dont think hell cut it in the prem
there is talk down here that hes unhappy at QPR as he isnt likely to start and may be on his way back to usOpen ControlsThanks for that. May have to be de Laet from Norwich as my other cheapy then. But will he play!?!?
Open Controls
Hi guys. RMT please. I'm very weak in defense but ive made up for it with possibly the best 4 MF combo ive seen thus far on this site and a strong attack.
Given (Ruddy)
Kompany Luiz Alcaraz (Simpson)(Wilkinson)
N'Zog Downing VDV Toure (Tiote)
Rooney(c) Suarez(vc) Holt
I'm willing to take a punt on Suarez and Luiz starting unless closer to GW1 they still havent featured in any friendlies. After GW1 I'm planning to use the 0.5 left in the bank to fund VDV for Malouda.
What d' y'all think? I'm convinced I'm almost thereOpen ControlsLescott is worth the 0.5 over Kompany. any time any day.
Open ControlsHow does that work then? Kompany only scored 8pts less last season and was classed as mf.
Open ControlsFor sure if he is goona start Lescott will pop up with goals
Open Controlsnobody knows when toure will be back. lescott is a sure starter until then. lescott played half the season and scored 3 goals where kompany scored none.
Open ControlsDont forget city have signed a new CB Savic. If he turns out to be amazing (unlikely i know but....) pre-season it will be lescott who is dropped before kompany
Open Controls
Transfers: Any big signings/ likely starters required or expected by top clubs?
Chelsea: Modric? (latest?) Looks a decent price.
Man Utd: Are fans expecting any more midfield movement? Or is the (rather fat) Anderson expected to have a breakthrough season? Think you can probably rely on your wide players and Roon...
Man City: Any alternatives to the likes of Nasri?
Cheers.Open ControlsLooks like Pastore not Modric at Chelski.
We expect Sneijder at United but may have to settle for Anderson - blah.
City signed Aguero and not sure if Nasri will go this year or next.
Oh and Spurs still need a striker! 🙂Open ControlsNot sure. The latest rumour is Roma's Vucinic.
Open Controls
Cheers guys.
(as an transfer saga-ed arsenal fan)keeping some budget aside... still quite a bit of transfer movement to be had.
Not sure there will be too many internal transfer/ loan bargains this season, as bigger money being spent externally.Open Controls
Morning all..
I'm in the very first stages of selection..
JUst mulling over Demba BAa right now, what do we think?
Also is Baines worth the dollar? Everton do have kind fixtures or should i look at Osman for coverage there?
Also tempted on a wild punt for Hoolahan..Open ControlsBaines, Ba and Hotlips were all in my first draft team. Then I started to realise that there were better options out there...:?
Open ControlsBaines is expensive but he gives you so many attacking points. If Everton can pick up a few CS, he could get some big scores.
Open Controls
please rate my team... any suggestions?
Given,Al-Habsi
Kompany,Samba,Rafael,(Bardsley,Hughes)
N'Zogbia,Jarvis,Downing,Silva,(Tiote)
Rodallega,Bent,Drogba
in the bank: 0.5
DO u thnk Rafael will start fr Utd. at RB? wl dempsey b a good pck fr GW1?Open ControlsGee, Torres really was a bargain:
"Forward Nicklas Bendtner looks set to leave Arsenal though, with a £9m move to Sporting Lisbon in the offing after he was spotted in Portugal."Open Controls
