Our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. The three-part approach, which takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections, will hopefully help to steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Judging by the voting in this week’s Captain Poll, there’s no real standout candidate as we head towards Gameweek 5. United’s Wayne Rooney just edges it at the summit – ahead of a trip to Leicester, he receives just over 21% of votes cast after grabbing a goal and assist in last week’s comprehensive home win over QPR.

Team-mate Angel di Maria picked up similar returns against the R’s and has persuaded 17% to hand him the captaincy – only just less than Chelsea’s prolific Diego Costa. Despite firing seven goals in four appearances, most Fantasy managers reckon the summer signing faces a tough task to continue his scoring streak as the Blues roll up to the Etihad, with many fearing Jose may park the bus again.

Further down, Emmanuel Adebayor, with a mere 7% FPL ownership, offers a strong differential alternative. Rested from Tottenham’s midweek Europa League match, he takes on an out-of-sorts West Brom backline that that conceded two or more goals in three out of four matches under new manager, Alan Irvine. Radamel Falcao also find a place in the top five for United’s visit to the King Power Stadium, despite finding himself on the bench last weekend.

Elsewhere, a trio of highly-owned midfielders are also in consideration. Gylfi Sigurdsson has delivered 16 points in his two appearances at the Liberty ahead of the visit of Southampton, whilst Aaron Ramsey – similar to the Swans playmaker – has scored or assisted in three of his four appearances as Arsenal make their way to Villa. After being rested from the starting XI last weekend, Raheem Sterling is a sure starter for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham – two goals in three appearances in the Reds’ starting line-up bodes well against a backline yet to keep out their opponents.

Danny Welbeck is the highest Arsenal player in this week’s Poll as the Gunners attempt to break down the league’s most resilient defence. Yet to open his account for Arsene Wenger’s side, the deadline-day signing is backed by over 4% of your votes – more than Sergio Aguero ahead of City’s clash with Chelsea, despite the Argentine scoring in three of his four league appearances.

My team before 1ft & 1.8 itb with team value + bank of 103.0

    Krull (Elliott)
    Ivanovic, Clyne, Chester (Moore, Hutton)
    Ramsey, Sterling, Fabregas, Siggy, Silva
    Costa (c), Naismith (Jovetic)

Was going to sell Chester but team lists on this site & totalfpl have him starting so I'll keep.
Was going to sell Silva but again he's listed to play in the hole so I might play him.
Jovetic will become Pelle next week.

    So these are my options:
    (a) save ft so that I have 2 next week.
    (b) sell Silva anyway as he played in the hole last week & scored lowly. I would buy ADM/Chadli.
    (c) do a boring transfer like Hutton out, Duff/Chambers/Naylor/PVA in
    (d) improve my gk. Sell Krul & buy DDG or sell Elliott & buy Mannone.

    Opinions appreciated.

Don't have Dier but I used my wc in gw2 which helped. I think Dier would be a great choice this week & considering a -4 hit by selling Silva & Chester for ADM & Dier but to make it work I'd have to captain ADM which I'm not sure about.

Yeah the -4 hit for a defender theory is worth bearing in mind but those 5 goals that Spurs will score may include Dier as a goal scorer. I really like the trade rage theory as well. Dier has gone up in price so it seems a lot of people like Dier as well.

I've got Adebayor, as a better short term option.

I'm not against pelle, but as a distraught Newcastle fan who watched the demolition at st. Mary's last weekend, pelle really didn't need to do much for his goals. Both were delivered on a platter, created out of mistakes.

Don't want to bench anyone else. Can't bench Costa, Rooney, Ramsey, Hazard or Mata so I have a choice between Naismith, Tadic and Sigurdsson for the first sub spot and I think he's the worst out of the 3. He also played in Europa this week so mightn't be as sharp.

                    Cost me 28 pts.

I even wrote community article singing the praise of Baines.

I would have still had WC had I done the trade I think.

Everyone so confident spurs are going to destroy WBA ???

I would be happy with just a win frankly

      Im hoping they struggle(Sorry!),

Last 3 games at WHL was 1-1,1-0 and 1-1/.

My ML leader has Ade,Dier and Eriksen, so maybe I am biased.

This is my point.... People seem far to sure they will suddenly start scoring shite loads... Can't see it myself but then it is WBA

WBA have fewer shots on their goal than chelsea, villa and City I think.

          Bogey team for spurs?

Guys, been settled with my wc team since midweek but now thinking that I don't wanna be without a Mirallas in my team, would you drop any of these front 7 for him?
    Fabregas, Sterling, Di Maria, Siggy
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle?
