Our Monday afternoon regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Aston Villa
The Midlands outfit were hit hard by a virus prior to the weekend home defeat to Arsenal. Paul Lambert confirmed Darren Bent and Nathan Baker missed out altogether, whilst Ashley Westwood also failed to feature – he was initially named in the starting XI but was forced to drop out. Andi Weimann was also subbed off at the break after struggling to overcome the same problem.

Burnley
Clarets midfielder David Jones was subbed off after 86 minutes of the weekend goalless draw against Sunderland with “a minor thigh injuryâ€.

Chelsea
Ramires was withdrawn on 63 minutes having suffered a knee injury. Early reports suggest that the Brazilian could face a term of absence with the midfielder undergoing scans early this week.

Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Philippe Coutinho missed the trip to West Ham due to a groin problem, while Jordan Henderson is being assessed after picking up a hip complaint.

Man United
Jonny Evans was withdrawn after just 30 minutes of United’s loss at Leicester with a leg problem and, post-match, Louis van Gaal admitted:

“I don’t know how bad Evans is. We have to wait for a scan tomorrow but he is on crutches.â€

Newcastle
Cheick Tiote will be assessed after limping off towards the end of Saturday’s home draw with Hull.

QPR
The problems are building up in midfield for Harry Redknapp. Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch were passed fit for Saturday’s home clash with Stoke after heading into the match as doubts due to hamstring problems – both players were subsequently subbed off with a recurrence of the injuries, whilst Sandro missed out altogether due to a knee complaint.

Southampton
Both Maya Yoshida and James Ward-Prowse were forced off with ankle problems in the weekend win at Swansea. New boy Toby Alderweireld missed Liberty clash with a minor hamstring problem but is expected to be back next weekend.

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher and Ricardo Alvarez missed the Black Cats’ trip to Burnley due to a calf complaint and knock respectively, though the latter has since been passed fit for tomorrow’s Capital One clash with Stoke. Gus Poyet has also revealed that Emmanuel Giaccherini was forced off on his first start of the season and will be assessed:

“Giaccherini had plenty of energy, going between the lines and I think he was one of our best players. That was the idea of playing him; to create that little bit more. He was thereabouts, so it’s not bad from him. Unfortunately, he took a big knock which we need to check today.â€

Swansea
Dwight Tiendalli missed the weekend home defeat to Southampton with a slight groin problem.

West Brom
Giorgos Samaras missed out through injury as the Baggies picked up a 1-0 win at Spurs yesterday.

West Ham
Midfielder Cheick Kouyate is set to undergo scans after picking up a groin problem against Liverpool on Saturday evening – the summer signing stayed on the field after Sam Allardyce had made all three substitutions.

Anyone else looking/hoping to save their FT next weekend to have 2 FT's over the international break (if you're not planning on using WC obviously)?

Afternoon lads. Still on a high after finding myself 99th in the world 🙂

Need some help though, I have 2FTs and don't think I need to use them (unless we get problems mid-week) so how would you use at least one of them to start moulding the team with the mid-term in mind?

    Bego | Heaton
    Baines | Trippier | Bertrand | Pieters | PVA
    Sterling | ADM | Siggy | Chadli | Boyd
    Falcao | Costa | Pellé

0.3 in bank, with a desire to get Fabs, Hazard and/or Ivan. Chadli is looking the most dispensable.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The only vague problem with that team is Chadli.

Congratulations on your fantastic start! 🙂

Thanks Lucy 🙂 I'm even considering getting rid of Falcao to free up funds - but that could be a HUGE mistake - will probably keep him for another couple of weeks to see how he beds in.

          Wise to wait.

You'll need Arsenal attacking personnel soon but that's easily sorted with Pellè or Falcao to Welbeck.

Yeah Falcao would be the one (unless he turns into Costa Mk II) - Pelle value looks to GREAT to lose him atm.

Chambers from 8 should be value. My finger on the trigger for Falcao in for Rooney , but Aguero also lurking

Think i'd do Rooney to Falcao - but yeah, Aguero is obviously also tempting. Would probably keep the FT though (unless you have 2FTs and nothing else that needs addressing).

Wow, great start! Chadli needs to go as you say - downgrading defence? You've got 5 really good defenders, and I'm guessing you're playing 3 at the back - but I'm probably not the one to give you advice, as I'm ranked 189k 😉

Cheers Seb. Yeah, I like Chadders a lot but him getting subbed of around the hour mark isn't boding well. And yeah, 5 good defenders - which I LOVE having (especially as they're performing - except Pieters who I might swap for Chambers). Was even thinking of downgrading Baines for a couple of games.

Yeah, doing something like putting in Gilks instead of Bego to save £1m would've also probably put me top of the Scout league! Stoke's fixtures are looking too good though - i'm hoping there are a few points around the corner...

Southampton's central midfielders: a word of caution

At the beginning of the season, I wrote Schneiderlin, Cork and Wanyama off as picks. Davis and JWP seemed the much better picks, with natural creative abilities - one who assisted well under Poch, the other a youngster with an excellent right-foot, capable of delivering delicious set-pieces.

Well, I was wrong. Very wrong. JWP and Davis will battle it out for a place, and possibly neither will play in some games. Cork seems capable of fulfilling a similar role, having scored his first goal for the club, and may well be played in order to convince him to sign a new contract.

And those central midfielders which I discarded? Actually worth reassessing.

Koeman said in his press conference before the Swnasea game that he expected those kinds of players to provide 5-10 goals and they will be included in shooting practice. He wants them to bomb on and join in on the attack, presumably one holding back while one or two (depending on formation) go forward.

And the recent article on Schneiderlin implies that this is the case. Schneiderlin has plenty of technical ability to fulfil this role, and I'm glad that Koeman is maximising his potential. I'd expect him to fulfil Koeman's quota.

The Wanyama goal at the weekend that caught so many out? That's a signal of Koeman's vision for his central midfielders. We saw Wanyama had an attacking threat at Celtic but this never translated into PL returns last season. Pochettino expected discipline from his holding midfielders. Koeman wants more than that and Wanyama's pure power really shone through.

This comes after Wanyama had been dropped. In last week's press conference, Koeman seemed to suggest that Wanyama would be used more frequently in the tough games when we need to get a control of possession in midfield and break up play. It may now be possible that, having chalked a goal, Wanyama is attempting to prove to Koeman that he is capable of fulfilling more than a simple DM enforcer role, as Koeman prefers. He's worth monitoring for the next couple of weeks for those considering a GW8 wildcard - another cheapie option may be appearing.

So expect goals from Saints' central midfield. This is possibly to Tadic's detriment but may be positive for Pelle - despite his obvious limitations as a player (ones which he personally seems aware of and that is refreshing), his hold-up play is generally very good and he will surely look to assist those CMs bombing on from midfield.

Always good to get in depth opinions on teams.

I hope JWP gets some decent game time this season, as you know I rate him very highly, his set piece potential is excellent in FPL terms as well

Fantastic post, and very much in line with my perception as well.

From the start I had Davis as my 5th midfielder (picked him over JWP as he featured slightly more in preseason), but when he started to get subbed I duly transferred him to Tadic in GW3.

I currently have Clyne-Tadic-Pelle in my squad and am very satisfied with that, though I'd be equally happy to have one of the other mids you mentioned.

The issue with Wanyama, just like Davis and JWP however, is that he's not yet nailed on to start when you need him in the rotation or to replace another starter in your team who has been dropped or is injured. For that reason I think only Schneiderlin would intrigue me enough to buy him.

However, with so many good midfield options and cheap strikers this year I'm skeptical if I'll ever go back to having a cheap 5th midfielder. If I get rid of Tadic it will most likely be for another big-hitter like Walcott or ADM rather than another Saints midfielder.

Yeah it's definitely too early for Wanyama - just think that he's doing his best to prove Koeman wrong. His celebration was very defiant.

Schneiderlin's the one that I'd consider too.

I noticed that celebration too. Very Balotelli-esque 🙂

Schneiderlin almost scored a couple of times at Anfield too, that's also in my memory when considering him. He's been close in pretty much every game so far. I just like playing the percentages and Tadic is in dangerous positions much more often and I can afford the extra outlay on him.

Yeah I can totally understand the Tadic attraction. When/if Pelle starts converting his crosses, that'll be excellent for Tadic's FPL prospects. 🙂

I watched Tadic closely against Swansea, and the issue he seems to be having is that when he plays on the wing he's often making that layoff pass or throughball to Bertrand on the overlap, meaning that he misses out on a lot of assist opportunities. I'm desperate for him to play more centrally as he'll create more direct danger there, just as he did on the key passes to Pelle late in the game as well as the assist to Clyne at Anfield.

really considering cork. boyd seems the obvious buy at that price but things like this are drawing me towards cork. all about whether it's worth the possible 5 into 3 (probably 4 into 2 as schneiderlin is the don) concern every team sheet. i'd pick cork always after last season but i'm not koeman ofc

The thing holding me back from buying a Saints midfield cheapie like Cork is that I'd quite like to have one of our attackers in my first XI and double defence. A cheap mid seems like a waste of a Saints spot.

I don't think anyone does it regularly for many other teams actually. I quite like to have a good solid write-up, just because I tend to get asked these things repeatedly. Kills many birds with one stone.

Does anyone know the latest situation regarding Gamboa at WBA?

Wisdom has been really solid but I'm worried that WBA might go with Gamboa in a home game against the defensively solid Burnley instead. Would be very frustrating as this is literally the only game I picked Wisdom for in my rotation.

With all due respect to Burnley, they aren't anywhere near the attacking threat that Spurs are though. Wisdom is perfect for defensive displays like the ones they've put in at St Mary's and WHL, but less so when they are on the front-foot as he doesn't offer much in the opposition half.

Downing is actually looking decent this year.. as is west ham.

between him, chadli and schiederlin for me - but out of the three, i'd genuinely go for downing.

    A) Rooney to Aguero
    B) Rooney to Falcao-he could rise
    C) Wait and see
    D) Get Chambers in but bench him as I fear he could rise a lot due to Debuchy etc..

You didn't link your team but with Rooney having 2 options, am guessing he's your main/pressing concern. I'd do C. Wait and see. Might see Mata back in, RVP dropped with Rooney pushed back up...It's all up in the air at this point I think.

not too sure about Scheiderlin. How much would you have ITB if you did Bojan to Ulloa?

Bojan definitely---Not so certain about Mata âž¡ Schneiderlein but you do have enough grounds to justify that move as explained on here http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/8364940

I've already done Bojan>Naismith>Ulloa this season, pocketing nice price rises in the process. 0.7 and counting (of which I've earned 0.3 so far). Their respective productions have been great too crucially.

I post my team every week for advice, and get some great responses. So here I go again this week!

    Krul (Myhill)

    Caulker Cahill Shackell (Bruce, Hutton)

    Siggy Hazard Ramsey Sterling

    Rooney Costa Adebayor

    2FT.

The way I see it. Adebayor, Krul and Caulker (and possibly Rooney are my weak links)
    Therefore considering one of...

    A: Adebayor & Caulker ---> Pelle & Bertrand
    B: Adebayor & Krul ---> Pelle & Bertrand
C: (The more daring) Rooney, Adebayor & Caulker ---> Falcao, Pelle, Bertrand

Do any of these seem like good moves? Any other's youd suggest? (a way to get Di Maria perhaps). Any thoughts much appreciated my friends!

        I prefer this.
My reason being Forster should comfortably outscore Krul [based on current form at least] over the next 5 games. Caulker has still delivered points despite QPR's bad start. Might be worth waiting for a FT to get rid of permanently. A win-win IMO
