It’d be fair to say that when the pre-season player lists were revealed last July, Stewart Downing was far from our thoughts as a viable Fantasy option. A goal and two assists over 2,507 minutes in 2013/14 highlights his lack of impact in a West Ham outfit that scored just 40 times over the entire campaign, and despite reports suggesting Sam Allardyce’s side were set to go on the attack this time around, we were anything but convinced.

After five Gameweeks, though, the Hammers are starting to deliver. A 3-1 win over Liverpool means they have now scored nine times so far – averaging of 1.8 goals per match compared to last year’s 1.05 – and, from a Fantasy perspective at least, Downing has been the player to benefit most. A total of 27 points is just six off the top of the midfield standings in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and sees the 5.5-priced Downing sandwiched in between Aaron Ramsey and Eden Hazard, on 28 and 25 points respectively.

With a goal, two assists and six bonus points accrued, Downing’s prospects could be boosted further by a switch in formation which afforded him the role in “the hole” behind Enner Valencia last weekend.

In our next members article of the week, we turn to the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables in order to assess the 2%-owned Downing’s displays in comparison to the season gone by.

For those who aren’t familiar with them, KPI tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or changes in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain whether a player’s form has improved or declined. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

I am thinking of playing Milner instead of Adebayor this weekend, as not sure how Adebayor will play against Arsenal

Are any other Costa owner (like me) secretly hoping he gets sent off soon to make the game more interesting? 60% ownership makes the game so sterile, and it's near enough impossible to captain anyone else when he has home games. At least ADM has broken the midfield template somewhat (and hazard and Walcott May follow soon), and it would be nice if the same could happen in attack if Sturridge could catch fire and Costa stutters abit.

A big portion would stay with Costa though. Would be a more even split between Costa/aguero/Sturridge than the current 60/10/10 split

    Forster

Maybe if it wasn't the Merseyside derby i could see it. Even if it wasn't, they've just lost their last two league games, makes no sense resting their best player and risk losing a 3rd

I was thinking the same, even more possible he's dropped with Lallana back. I'm considering bringing Gerrard rather than DiMaria for Ramsey. I hope for penalties galore at the Liverpool derby and very tasty fixtures after that.

I'm not sold on Tadic yet. Looks very good player but fantasy wise I will get him in when Saints start getting penos out of the hat the way Pool usually get. So far Schneiderlin has outscored him and that's too scary of a prospect for me. I'm considering only proven fantasy pedigree (Silva, Gerrard, maybe ADM?) to swap for the likes of Ramsay and Sterling

I've been looking at the best players overall so far (top 5) and noticed not 1 of them have hazard they all have fabregas. Is fabregas essential? I've had haz from start of season and I'm now on a wc. Should I replace him for fab?

normally when you turn to the internet for a diagnosis, you'll generally end up thinking you have aids or cancer. probably better to go see a doctor if you're worried. for what it's worth i sprained an ankle last year and it's still swollen/damaged, and is sore sometimes but i can run on it fine

the chances you have cancer of the foot are more or less zero. if you play football and as you get a bit older, you'll soon realise you're sore all the time somewhere or another. i wouldn't worry about it in the slightest.

Yeah just wanted a big hitting differential in my mini league. Opted for Hazard instead. Tempted to punt on Silva or Ozil over Ramsey as a glory shot

Plenty of points on there.....reliant on pelle and Ulloa keeping up their scoring. Both bound to cool off a little.

Was thinking that, maybe Welbeck will be a more consistent source in that bracket

Looks good. More or less what I'm trying to move towards with Baines in gw8, though I have Tadic 5th mid and Siggy+fab.

If this is a WC i would fix Moreno and Chester. And not too keen on Ramsey.

Very similar to the two highest ranked players this season, both 3-5-2 with Welbeck Costa, Ramsey and Welbeck is too much i think Arsenal always have games where they disappoint

        1. Lovren
        2. Duff
        3. Wisdom
        4. PVA

If Moreno carries on blanking attacking wise and Liv still leaky he will have to go, thoughts on Mangala ? Risk of rotation ?

they do have nice fixtures and with the money they spent on him it would be stupid to play Demi over him, but I'm not a City fan

Im thinking City will be the most solid defensive team, sort of taking over the essential chelsea defender tag before the season started role, thanks will monitor closely

Currently, yes. Could become a good option though.

I'm going to look at another cheapy to hopefully allow me to have a mid of something like:

              fab ram sterl ADM
              aguero dcosta Welbeck

Thats my front 7 but Siggy instead of Ram, not even sure if thats affordable (with Ram) wouod probably have to be 5x4.0 def, i like your thinking though
