The chase is on for Joey Barton’s signature. Owen Coyle tries out a new formation as Darren Pratley and Chris Eagles impress again. Swansea look set to grab another winger. Ben Foster comes in at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). Stewart Downing crosses, Andy Carroll scores- that’s a phrase you may be hearing plenty of next season. Here’s this morning’s Scribbles, folks:

The race is on to snap up Joey Barton following yesterday’s extraordinary events at Newcastle. Released on a free transfer despite having a year of his contract remaining, Barton will have no shortage of suitors as he looks around for a new club this summer. The player’s agent, Willie McKay, has already had plenty of enquiries:

We have been inundated with interest. We’re talking to top Premier League clubs and European clubs. One is very, very interested. I’ve got nothing against Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias. They can do what they want but I think it’s suicide what they’ve done.

Names such as Tottenham and Everton have been suggested as most likely and providing Barton can join a club where regular starts are a given, he’s still very much a viable Fantasy prospect, priced at 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Talking of free transfers, Wigan have signed up ex Wolves man David Jones. The midfielder was released by Big Mick McCarthy’s side in the summer and has been training with the Latics over the last few days. Roberto Martinez has said:

‘David is a talented player. He is technically gifted and tactically clever.’

Bolton’s friendly game at Hereford last night saw Owen Coyle try out a new formation which may intrigue Fantasy managers. Coyle went with a 4-2-3-1 shape, playing Chris Eagles and Martin Petrov on the flanks, with Mark Davies behind lone forward Kevin Davies. The second half saw Darren Pratley replace Mark Davies and both he and Eagles scored in the game, as the visitors coasted 3-0. Bolton lost eleven of their last twelve away games in 2010/11 and a change in shape, particularly for games on the road, may prove to be wise by Coyle.

Liverpool came back from 2-0 down Valerenga last night to eventually draw 3-3. Stewart Downing supplied the cross for Andy Carroll to fire home from close range and a Daniel Agger brace reminded Fantay managers of his scoring capabilities. Kenny Dalglish’s side were poor in the first-half but bossed the second forty-five and in the end, threw away a lead in injury time. The Reds boss said after the game:

“It was obviously more pleasing in the second half, we were closing down higher up the pitch. In the first half we stood off. They wanted time to play and we gave them time to play. The important thing is we’ve got to be better when we don’t have the ball – but the boys aren’t shy of hard work. There’s an educated week’s training ahead.”

Swansea have agreed a deal with Newcastle to sign Wayne Routledge. The winger will undergo a medical today and providing there are no hiccups, will sign on at the Liberty Stadium on a three-year deal. Although it bolsters Brendan Rodgers’ squad, it seems unlikely that Routledge will be no more than back-up to Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer on the wings in Swansea’s 4-3-3, unless the Swans boss is looking at a change in formation.

Yuri Zhirkov looks set to become the first player to leave Chelsea since the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas. Having weighed up his squad on their recent tour of Asia, the Blues boss is moving quickly to implement his squad restructuring plans and Zhirkov’s sale is the first step in what looks to be a busy month ahead.

If certain reports are to be believed, Fulham are eyeing up Cameron Jerome as the Birmingham summer sale shows no sign of ending soon. The move, if it transpires, seems a strange one- Bobby Zamora looks a nailed-on starter for the Cottagers, with Andy Johnson and Moussa Dembele fighting it out for the other forward place. Jerome’s arrival would cast doubts over the club’s strike-pairing under Martin Jol, which would not be good news for Fantasy managers. Another forward at the club would further decrease Clint Dempsey’s chances of playing as a makeshift striker on occasion next term, too.

Ben Foster has been added to the FPL game with a starting price of 5.0. Foster’s new club West Brom chalked up a mere 2 clean sheets last term and his presence between the sticks will boost that tally, without question. Foster proved last season, despite being relegated with Birmgham, that a keeper in a struggling team can provide plenty points even if clean sheets don’t come his way. Mark has pointed out in an article last week that Foster rotates with Shay Given all the way to game week 17, though with a combined Fantasy price of 10.0, this may prove too costly for some.

most arent keen on RJ, or wolves defence in general. But their opening run of fixtures are attractive. If you are going to have him in at all this year, now may be the time, but I wouldnt consider him a season long option.

Someone please Buggu this cause you laugh at them, but they are probably the top three most improved team (yeah yeah I know they had the advantage of being so shitty). But last year MGP was their most attractive player, this year keep an eye on Adelino Vieirinha, Ruben Rochina, Formica and of course Hoilett. What will you do when they put up 4 goals on Wolves (and yes Wolves will go down in a heap)?

But chelseas manager knows all about Luiz, plus Roman Abramovich Paid big money for him and to be fair he had an excellent start to his career. He had a dodgy game against UTD fair enough but seriously Alex? Hes so immobile Hes a poor mans JT. Luiz can also play holding mid or RB. He will play every week hes fit.

Take out all the RMT's and it'll probably back to 3 pages max. It might even make sense if the RMT's were different but there's probably about 3 variations of a standard theme, stops any meaningful tactical chat. This could of course be a good thing if you have some great tactical secrets you want to keep! 😉

They can't really see him starting. Jack fans are saying he's a squad player (and as an ex cardiff player they're not too fussed on him anyway). He wasn't good enough for the prem at Newcastle, and now qpr are up they don't want him. He'll be on loan to the championship come January

My team is far from ready. 😉

Actually, for 23.5m and the players you've already got, I'd go with A - Bent, N'Zogbia and Moses.

Bent will be one of the first names on the teamsheet for me, and N'zogbia is probably the best at 7.5m and under. I have no issue doubling up on Villa early either.

No way. FPL is a squad game, with subs often coming in.

Ferguson would not only get you no points, but will probably go down in value when he doesn't play. At such a low value already, he'll be hard to replace later in the season (which you will have to do!).

People keep on saying they’re going away so need their team ready first. There aren’t many places in the world where you can’t get to the internet nearby.

Just an hour on it later in the pre-season should make a big difference. My advise would be to use it if you can.

Jones needs to be careful - he doesn't want to be too versatile. I'd much rather he concentrated on becoming a great CB who can occasionally fill in elsewhere, than a utility player who can play across the back 4 and in DM.

I guess he's like O'Shea, just with more potential than he ever had.

I'd thought he looked very good in midfield last season.

People keep on saying they're going away so need their team ready first. There aren't many places in the world where you can't get to the internet nearby.

Just an hour on it later in the pre-season should make a big difference. My advise would be to use it if you can.

And enjoy the rest of your trip 🙂 ...

I don’t understand where all this Malouda love is coming from. Lampard is in form and is guaranteed starts and the members projections predict that he will both out-score and out-start Malouda. While he might be playing deeper this season I still think he is a safer bet, until the dust begins to settle at the Bridge and we can see what VB is thinking.

    Please inform me otherwise.....

Money money. 12m vs 10.5m is the only answer. And Malouda was class last season and a little younger than Lampard (and maybe stay healthier than the latter for the all season). Saying all that I don't have either of them.

Lampard takes 13% of your budget for 6.7% of your team. And when everyone else has risen so much, I can't realistically get him in until I have around 106m. Could take a long time.

On even more set pieces than he was on in the Championship now as Helguson won't get the minutes to take the alternative pens. He takes corners freekicks and all sorts and the players are only allowed to pass to him in the final third. He really is a great player be intresting to see how he does in the PL. (QPR fan)

If anyone cares to take a look and share thoughts, he is most welcome. Here's the team:

    Given, Ruddy
    A. Cole, Kompany, Rafael, Simpson, Wilkinson
    Lampard, N'Zogbia, Taarabt, Sinclair, Moses
    Tevez, Rodallega, Holt

I got 3.0 mil in the bank to bring VDV in later on.
And will monitor the Tevez situation and change him if needed.
NEW and STO rotate pretty good btw, that is why i got these defenders.

Well, I seem to be getting closer to my final squad for GW1 *Fingers crossed*

    3-5-2 probable starting formation

Given, (Foster) *rotate well for the first half of the season
Dunne, Kompany, A. Cole (De Laet, Simpson)
    Nani, Silva, Larsson, Tchoyi, Moses
Aguero, Bent (Dembele/A. Johnson) *currently with Dembele but if Cameron Jerome comes, I shall consider.

Might move to a 4-4-2 due to Tchoyi vsing Man Utd GW1

Nani is a worry, but look you have to take risks for maximal reward.

I open the board to criticism!

You are banking on Wigan to perform with 2 players

Your midfield contains mostly relegation battle teams - hardly a source of big point scores

GW2 you only have one home defender

Silva 1.5 mill more than Yaya and got 2 point less last season

Bramble and Turner are dirt cheap.

I've seen a few mentions of Bramble but not many for the latter - After many an injury the boy is fit now and he is a monster in the air - In both boxes. He is however a yellow card magnet. Seemingly first choice according to squashednose though.. Anyone else considering?

you may need to be more specific.

also I don't think there is any agreement regarding players.

If you were to ask what are the must have teams to get defenders or attackers from I would say that Chelsea, Man City and Villa have good early fixtures and a smart manager would get in a chelsea or man city defender, a chelsea attacker (mid or forward) and one of Bent or Nzog.
