    Forster
    Clyne, Janmaat, Wilson
    Di Maria, Sterling, Siggy, Chadli
    Kun, Costa, Welbeck

    McCarthy, Boyd, PVA, Naylor

    1FT, 2.9m

Not sure Janmaat out is worth it given his fixture. what do you think lads?

For a guy who never gets CS's, Janmaat is not worth it imo (just like people realized with Caulker). Maybe not this week per se, but definitely in the near future.

I'd save the FT for the moment.

Save FT unless you want to do Chadli--->McGeady which seems a bit rash considering Spurs' fixtures after City.

Yeah I love the annual Anzac game against the Storm.

Smith, Parker and Sammy Burgess were consistently great scorers all season. Lafai was a good little differential of mine for most of the year, and Hayne was an absolute beast for the second half of the season. Farah, Fifita and Fensom all did well for me too when they weren't injured. Oh, and I had Hunt from the first week, what a season he had. 🙂

How did James Graham fair? Konrad Hurrell must've been up there during his purple patch, too? What's the point system like? I imagine points for tries, assists and shutouts. How many people play it?

Also, I'm gutted about Hoffman joining your boys next season - what a player.

Graham was great too, a mainstay in my team. You get points for quite a few things, including tackle busts, tackles, metres gained, tries, line breaks, try assists, LB assists, conversions etc. Forwards are the most consistent scorers due to the number of tackles they make. Hurrell did well during his purple patch, those backs that break heaps of tackles are gold, Mansour is another who I had for the majority of the season.

Looking forward to Hoffman coming, his leadership and experience will be awesome around some of the younger players coming through.

Hayne must've been gold for tackle busts. Is there captaincy (double points) like FPL? How did JT end up, also?

Johnson and Tomkins playing off the back of Hoffman's, Mannering's etc runs will be something special. I fancy Warriors for finals next year if you can show any consistency or away form - always a good team to watch.

Yep there's captaincy just like FPL. Smith is pretty much the Suarez of last season, most people leave the captaincy on him since he's consistently right up there with the highest scorers.

I was gutted that we didn't make the finals this year tbh... Our inconsistency is so painful to watch as a fan!

I joined Triggerlips' ML this season, it was a H2H and I ended up losing in the final 🙁 Knocked Trigg out in the semis though 😀

Hopefully more FFSers play next season and I can set a league up.

Oh i didn't realise vaz te was 4.4.

That being the case you should just carry on with 352 as your midfield is pretty strong. Just sort that defense out by getting colo out.

Colocini>Bertrand is also a trade you should consider before Bertrand rises to 5.3 to go out of your reach.

Haha, I see that you've narrowed down your options since I last saw your team! 😀

This GW is a great GW to get on some bandwagons like Welbeck and Baines for example (among others) due to the 2 week break giving more time for players to rise. As such I would try to use the FT.

Chambers will probably rise - as long as he doesn't get booked against Chelsea, so is a good transfer imo.

      1. davies
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

Aye. I can't get Baines without surgery (shipping Courtois etc). I could take a -8 and get Chambers and Lukaku for their respective fixtures upcoming. Vardy also allows me to play 343 for this GW without taking a hit, so got some decisions to make.

  6. Is Aguero worth it?
    rickardinho
    • 9 Years
    9 years, 7 months ago

Is Aguero worth his 12.2 price tag over 7.3 Welbeck?

    Let's consider some numbers:

Welbeck costs 7.2, Aguero 12.2, which is about 70% more of Welbeck's price, but lets use 50% to allow for captaincy points for example.

Will Aguero score over 50% more points than Welbeck? Probably not, as Aguero doesn't play all games and is taken off early a lot.

However, for the sake of debate let's assume Aguero DID score 50% more than Welbeck, is it worth it then? Still, probably not, and here's why:

That 5.0 extra budget can allow you to upgrade a 4.5 Defender (eg. Taylor) to Baines, AND upgrade a 5.0 mid (eg. Kranjcar) to Tadic. Will Baines and Tadic outscore Taylor and Kranjcar by more than what Aguero will outscore Welbeck by? Most definitely yes, and its not even close imo.

          There's just too many assumptions.

For example if you have Naylor, it's highly unlikely that you play him every week. Also, who needs a 5m mid on the field? If you kranjcar he would be on the bench so why is he being compared to tadic? doesn't that mean you are rotating tadic and welbz?

          1. rickardinho
            • 9 Years
            9 years, 7 months ago

You're taking the examples too literally.

The point is that the 5.0 can be reinvested elsewhere to earn big point increases there. I don't see how anyone can disagree with that specific point.

            1. Nabs Kebabs
              • 12 Years
              9 years, 7 months ago

yeah but my point is an extra 5m is best spot on a captaincy option.

              eg. something like
Chadli + Clyne + Kun vs Adm + Baines + Welbz

              i prefer the former.

my theory is make use of value but the explosive heavy hitting captain materials come first, build the value around them. i have had kun and welbeck since the first int break when i played my wc btw.

                • 9 Years
                9 years, 7 months ago

I agree - but if you already have Costa there's already an explosive option to choose for almost any fixture.

The examples you've chosen aren't the best ones imo, as I wouldn't be upgrading on good-value players like Clyne or Chadli, but rather on the lesser 4.5def's for example. In my case the Ivanovic-Baines vs Taylor-PVA/Chambers example is most prevalent so I chose that.

fwiw I don't like ADM, I'd rather have Tadic. 🙂

But double a lower score on average. Having top captain scores is the single most important decider of success imo

Nothing really... or I can buy Sturridge, Lukaku, Benteke, etc... there's loads of good options imo.

I could also revert to 352 even.

In anycase, GW12 is a long time away and I'm sure I could get Aguero if i wanted to. Its very unrealistic to expect him to rise that high though given how slow rises have been this season. Most people will probably stick with Costa-Welbeck as their front 2, plus Pelle or another.

Aguero's points-per-million isn't nearly as good as some other options out there.

Given the choice between having Aguero and two cheapies in defense, OR Ivanovic, Baines, and Welbeck, I think the decision is pretty easy. Those players also get consistent and big points.

You forget something *very* important when considering a player like Aguero's ppm...

You can captain him most every week & as a result his ppm *can* be doubled.

Yes - but I did factor that in to my prediction above - dropping 20% from my estimate - AND specifically mentioning that Costa would be captained most weeks anyways - thus making the captaincy double-points less pronounced in this comparison.

This is my 9th season playing FF. Kin is worth the money. When your at the end of the season you'll understand why.

If all the players were the same cost what would be your perfect team. Think about it. In time you'll get it. I'll transfer him out when he's injured. At the moment I'll enjoy it when Costa stops scoring and Kun owners take advantage!

Obviously if all players cost the same he'd be in my team for sure. But they don't cost the same, and I can do without the will-he-won't-he every week.

Also, in games where he scores once or twice he's more likely to be taken off early, which minimizes the chance for big hauls too.

Make your own trends. I've had a double Southampton defense for weeks. I'm ditching them this week as everyone else has bought. It might work or it might not! At least in playing the game where as some people follow the trends! Boring. I'm keeping Kun and getting Baines. Controversial....

                Who would score more?

                A) Kun(c) - Costa - any 5.0def - any 4.5def

                B) Costa(c) Welbeck Ivanovic Baines

Everyone playing this game has Costa. He's not a differential. Kun captain is. You wouldn't captain baines! That's the rule, never captain a defender!

How is that pigeonholing you? Its hardly an unnecessary variable when its true. More people captained Costa this week that Aguero, including many who own both.

                  What?

Mate, you've created this elaborate set of projections & rules in order to justify your position.

One of them being that you're *making me* captain Costa over Aguero to lessen his overall ppm.

And, what's worse you're pigeonholing me into doing this because the herd here feels it's the best play?

Horribly faulty reasoning all round my friend...

First of all - my elaborate projections and rules are in fact very simple back-of-a-cigarette-pack calculations.

Secondly, I was making a very general point, without the desire to pigeonhole anyone or target you specifically. You don't have to agree, but I welcome your opinion and you're well entitled to share it.

I hope we can continue this debate amicably, because it seems the conversation has taken an unnecessary tone for the worst.

Listen, I said Aguero's value can be doubled b/c you can captain him almost every week.

You replied that it wasn't b/c lots of ppl own Costa & we should captain him instead.

This is faulty reasoning on it's face.

I fail to see why that is faulty reasoning. Costa is just as good a captaincy option right now as Aguero (if not better), so my reasoning is completely valid.

As I mentioned above you also can't say that captaining Aguero is a differential without considering the impact of not captaining Costa - which is arguably far more risky, as those who captained Aguero today may well find out tomorrow.

Your opinion on Costa as a captain's choice has zero bearing on what I said.

I said Aguero's ppm can be doubled by captaining him.

                        That's it. That's all.

There's no arguing this point. So quit while you're behind...

OK - yes you can double Aguero's ppm by captaining him - agreed. You win on that one.

But, we don't look at captaining him in a vacuum (to use your own argument), and Costa's existence means that Aguero's ppm WON'T be doubled very often.

this, Welbeck allows a Baines-Ivan double up as well. I view them as 2 extra midfielders, which can be huge added advantage with Welbeck. However, if you opt for the Aguero route, you can't do that without ruining your midfield or GK's

I used my WC this week. Got Kun because I can always downgrade, but I couldn't go Welbeck -> Kun later without taking a hit.

I just feel as though you can rely on Kun to score in almost every game, even with his limited game time. He is also on spot kicks.

They are both differentiators you could say, due to ownership %, but he provides another reliable captain option as others have stated.

Having Baines + Ivan in defence is risky, it could reward you well but you could say the same thing with that combination, you could get rid of one of them and upgrade elsewhere.

I don't personally think he is.

Don't get me wrong, I do rate him as an option. But the overall impact he has on your FPL team, the CL rotation and the irregularity of playing 90 minutes week in week out makes me think that he isn't worth it. What's worse is that his points ceiling isn't as high as Costa's, whenever City are playing well and in the lead, Aguero has a greater chance of been taken of than Costa. I'm also not sure whether his hamstrings can last till November.

You could use the same argument for RVP in years gone by. He wasn't 'value' but he was 'points'. We have a 15 man squad which can be made up of value players as well as points players. Aguero is a points player and therefore somewhat of a luxury. If he beats Welbeck by 50pts this season thats enough for me so long as my value players such as Chaddlii and Siggy do well for their price.

I am pro value this time. It all depends on Costa and his numbers. If he keeps it up. than Kun is irrelevant . He isn't no 1 player atm in FPL

I did a similar post on this at the start of the season, regarding 'value'.

Yes, to a certain extent Welbeck is better 'value' but you can only reinvest so much of that money successfully. What's to say you don't anyway? Aguero might score a fair few more points than Welbeck, so how do you make those up? You sprinkle the remaining funds over players who might not score as well.

For me, Aguero Costa Welbeck is the front three to have. Southampton have good fixtures but they become awful in a few weeks.

Also, everyone needs to remember we don't hold players for a whole season, just parts. Aguero won't be fit all season so if you own him when fit then he scores well. There is no point looking at overall totals because you won't own that player the whole season. Costa will probably get suspended or injured, Aguero injured, Welbeck rotated when Giroud is back etc. it's about owning players when they have form and fixtures and right now that's what they both have, therefor I will take them both.

      1) Compare like with like.
Welbeck went from 5th choice at Man United, to 1st choice at arsenal...his pricing is way off! (he will be great value if he can replicate his hatrick performance)

It's not a fair comparison to Aguero who has been priced correctly.
Who would you rather: Sturridge, Yaya, Sanchez, Facloa/RVP/Rooney...or Aguero?

      2) Value is better, but harder to find.
Finding 11 value players like Welbeck will be VERY difficult, and unless you have a crystal ball owning aguero will often be the better choice. Sometimes consistency > value.

Consider the budget forwards so far: Naismith, Sakho, Ulloa, Berahino...all offer outsanding value, but only if you own them on the exact couple of weeks they score. Very hard to get right.

I think he's maybe a million or so overpriced, but right now I'm top 20k and I've had 6million in the bank for the last 3 GWs...at some point it just makes sense to invest that in a lower value player who will get more points!

I'll be getting Baines or Aguero next week with the money most likely.

For those of us considering bringing in Kun over the international break, what do people reckon are the implications (if any) of the fact that Argentina's two friendlies are in Buenos Aries and Hong Kong? Seems like a lot of travel to me. Has me thinking that prioritising other potential transfers over the int break and delaying acquiring Kun for a week or two might be a goer.

      I agree overall.

If we assume that nearly everyone has Costa, investing 12.2 in Aguero really strips much of the rest of your team, with nearly a quarter of the overall budget invested in just two fifteenths of the squad.

In having Pelle and Welbeck up top, and Quinn on the bench in midfield, with ADM, Fab, Sterling and Siggy making up the rest of my attacking force, I'm able to have both Baines and Ivanovic in defence, with Naylor/Wilson/Wisdom rotating as my third defender, with enough change left over to have Mannone and Forster in goal, and 0.8 itb.

Aguero has the ability to go supersonic, as we all know, but is yet to have a double-figured GW and is an injury risk. And I feel were I to bring him into my team, I'd be losing a top defender, a top midfielder, and also losing out on a Welbeck who I have reasonably high expectations of over the coming months.

If Costa wasn't the essential expensive striker that he is, then Aguero would be a very likely candidate for me, but as things stand, his price would devalue too much of my team.

Not sure if I want to double up on Southampton defense since I already have Forster, but it's something I've defintely considered. Will consider Chambers, though. Thanks.

Albrighton > Boyd and PVA > Chambers look sensible transfers, if you decide to use both.

I reckon Robertson will become a top 4.5 pick after GW14 when fixtures improve. He's seriously attack-minded and puts in tons of great crosses. Hopefully he can stay cheap until then!

I'm only 0.3 short of being able to do Welbeck>Sturridge in a few weeks. Hopefully Sturridge drops 0.1 and Welbeck rises alot to make it possible.

A frontline of Pelle-Costa-Sturridge would be so boss 🙂

        Yeah he was.

Pellegrini seems to leave Aguero on when he really needs to find a goal.

So for my fellow Aguero captainers, it may not have worked out any better had he taken his chances earlier in the game. I'll still take 7 points though.

City one of the few defense with decent enough fixtures but Mangala is rash and lacks agility. Seems to carry a decent enough goal threat but Demichelis is always lurking. And I'm no fan of the Kolarov experience.

West Ham look to be good value right now, bizarrely. Tells you all you need to know about how poor BPL defenses are right now.

Yes its certainly an option I looked at too. But then I considered City's upcoming fixtures as well as Jovetic's return to fitness and I can see Aguero getting rested in at least 1-2 of City's next 4-5 league games, which swung it the other direction.

rested maybe not as city is not in a great position in the league..but given that city has only 1pt in UCL i do agree that he will be subbed off early in those games.

its a matter of how much he can do with the lesser minutes.

on the other hand, its possible for welbeck to be rested too especially with walcott etc back..we have seen it with sanchez so i would not rule out.

Thanks. Downing>4.4 was something I considered for sure, and am not sold on Ivanovic yet at all if I'm honest, but I just don't want to spend 12.2 on a striker who may or may not play most of his fixtures.

For example, West Ham away and QPR away in 2 and 4 GW's time coincide with CL weeks when City face CSKA in must-win games, so I can see Aguero rested for those games. Is a 12.2m striker worth his money if he's benched for half of his next 4 fixtures?

Downing as a 5th mid is wasteful.
I'd rather have many less expensive defenders than Lovern.
Fábregas isn't worth £9.6 now Oscar's back & playing *in the hole*.
Bertrand is a better player than Cylne & costs less.
              Blah, blah, blah...

We. Do. Not. Choose. Players. In. A. Vacuum.

So stop being so inflexible & your team will be better for it.

Downing is only there for two fixtures because I had to get rid of Ramsey and liked his fixtures.

                I'm doing Lovren>Baines tomorrow.

Fabregas is fine, I got him for 9.0 so I don't care that he costs 9.6 now. 9.0 is still good value for him.

I got Clyne for 5.0 as well from GW1 so I don't care about him being better or worse or more expensive than Bertrand. Until I WC I won't be making that swap.
