Our next Members article looking at the idea of “value” sees Forwards come under the microscope. With a fresh revision of players last weekend in light of factors such as transfers and pre-season tactics, we’ve tweaked the Projected totals to give you an up-to-date reflection on our thinking. While many of our top ten value forwards are lower-priced options that perhaps may be more suited to rotation, the kind opening prices afforded to the likes of Luis Suarez and Peter Odemwingie propels a couple of FPL big-hitters firmly into our thoughts.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Thought id test the water,

    Hart - solid
    Moreira - 4m, will play

    gibbs - cheap for a top4, starter
simpson - good rotation, 4m, will play
    kompany - solid
Bardsley - good rotation, attacking def
Briggs - 4m, attacking def, good rotation

VDV - possible captain, solid if not injured
    Moses - potential, cheap
    N'zog - solid
Modric - if he goes to chelsea
    Dyre - 4.5m garenteed start,

Rodallega - good fixtures, value will shoot up, odewingy in gw4
    Rooney - solid
Aguero - fixture, swap for carroll or swarez early on

feel free to rip me, but these r my current thoughts,,,

Gibbs is a fool's errand ... and Arse being top 4 is speculative at best 🙂

VDV is already carrying an injury/niggle ... so 90 mins. a doubt.

Seems you have 1.5 defenders (Gibbs the .5), 1 captain choice with questionable minutes. Aguero and Modric are big unknowns right now.

You'll be re-making that team in minutes or hours. No longer than hours.

Just seems to me that you need to minimize your risks ... put 2 or 3 'maybe' players on the squad, no more. By my count, you have 8.

Hes a good pick, yes, but it comes down to who will score more points from say:

Zamora, Briggs, Kenny or Given, Holt, Hughes/Enrique(if he moves to pool)

I would back the second option all day long.

Hi, so im hearing these new stats will mark players differently when it comes to bonus points - the ea index in what way is that? - if someone scores one and gets an assist they will bonus just like last years systmen or it based on how many miles and coverage a midfielder does during a game? - any advice would be appreciated.

It's based on who gets the most points on the EA player performance index. You get points for goals, assists and clean sheets, but also for "time on the pitch in a successful team" and for "positive influences on a winning performance (e.g. shots, tackles, clearances saves)"...

Have a look at last seasons top performers for an idea of who did well last time out: http://www.premierleague.com/page/PlayerPerformanceIndex

Interestingly Hart and Cech came 11th and 12th, above Wayne Rooney, on their overall scores. What these stats don't tell us is how often the players were the highest scoring in a match, i.e. how often they would have been awarded a bonus.

I can stretch my starting midfielder budget to 5.5

    Would people still pick Moses?

    Tean;
    Given (Ruddy)
Hughes - Kompany - Cashley (simpson - alcaraz)
    Taraabt - VDV - N'Zogbia - 5.5 to spend, Moses? (tiote)
    Rooney - RVP - Rodallega until GW4.

I'll probably switch out either Rooney or RVP for Suarez after the first couple of games.

Enrique very close, would be in most teams when it's offical I guess.

I really don't get this Modric thing. I assume you're talking about him going to Chelsea? I've seen alot this summer many people saying he would be a great FPL player at Chelsea. Why? He's points usually comes from bonus points, surely he would get fewer of those at Chelsea?

No point looking at the whole season since you will WC 100% in january, and possibly before that with the first WC.

"Perfect rotation" is overated, find some GK's that will get CS and saves.

The other side of the de Vries transfer is, how much of Swansea's defensive solidity last year was down to him? 10 goals conceded at home all season has me looking at them for cheap options, but together with the step up to the Premiership, losing de Vries might scupper that idea.

VDV might be injured ... or at least 'niggled' enough to not play 90 minutes, so you might want to have a think about that. He also has abysmal fixtures weeks 2-5.

Between Al and Taar: toss up. Al got some prem experience, but - even with soft fixtures, I worry about the shambles of a team that Villa might be. Taar was top performer last year, nailed on to start (though hasn't played much this preseason), but I worry how he'll do in the Prem. For me, I'd go Sessegnon.

RVP also has some tough games weeks 2 & 3, although he's a FPL banker. The 'unrest' at Arse bothers me, though. If Suarez seems likely to be out, I'd go Carroll. In fact, why chance it? Start with Carroll and slide over to Suarez when things settle.

      A.

It's a better pick. Malouda is 95% sure to start. You also get 2 captains as opposed to 1.

Is it even worth having Suarez for the first couple of games? what are the odds he will play at all in the first match?

I think he will, but the point is: how many of these players - that you've some questions about - are in your team?

Starting the year with VDV, Malouda, Suarez, Aguero could be a heartbreak waiting to happen, imo. Couple that with untested players - Taarabt, Holt, etc. - from the promoted teams and you have a situation that makes my ulcer angry.

Rooney - RVP - Suarez....but I've had to switch Ashley Cole for Jose Enrique and Alcaraz for Orr (bench warmer)

    Suarez replaced Rodallega.

Oh, and before I go - what's the latest on Hernandez? He took a knock or passed out and I heard he was supposed to be out for a few weeks. Looking like he will miss the start of the season?

"The mild concussion suffered by Javier Hernandez, a concussion that rung a few alarm bells seems to have subsided slightly after a few reassuring words from Sir Alex Ferguson.

In fact, Sir Alex has stepped forward and re-iterated an earlier comment that dictated that Javier would not be considered for the first few games of the new season with Sir Alex wary of the fact he`s been on international duty and could be at risk of suffering from burn-out.

Re-iterating this point, Sir Alex had this to say after the win in the friendly fixture against Barcelona,

"Javier was always going to get a break until he did his proper pre-season."

"In a two week period now he`ll do some training but he won`t play." We`ll have him back in three to four weeks."

      > Keep in mind that concussions can be wacky (perhaps he'll be all better sooner than expected) and that SAF is typically a cheeky monkey regarding injuries/lineups.

Sessegnon seems to be in a lot of people's thoughts, mine included. Are we sure he's guaranteed that behind the striker role? I know Bruce has said he's at his best playing there, but they've signed a couple of strikers, is there no chance he'll play further back in some games in a 4-4-2? Or even be dropped?

Yeah, he has been hyping him up, and just found an article from a few days ago saying Bruce is looking to play 4-4-1-1 most games. I guess the worry is if it's not working out he could get subbed off for Wickham.

What are people concluding about goalies this season?

I'm caught in two minds between playing Given every week and having a 4.0 or spending the extra 0.5 on Kenny and rotating.

I know last season goalie rotation didn't work, and if that's the case, the best thing to do is go with Given and Moreira, but I dunno, I can't see that being the better choice long term...

Was set on Schwarzer & Moreira with Dunne as Villa cover.

But with Enrique's imminent move to Pool i'm thinking of
      Dunne & Malouda -> Enrique & Lampard.

Only problem is this puts me back to square one with keepers 😐

Go Enrique - Lampard and use the funds elsewhere.

      Given-Ruddy for me

Extremely cheap, and the games where I wouldn't want to play Given (GW4/8 specifically), Ruddy has very favorable fixtures.

Have you found an acceptable 4.5 mid by the way Camzy?

I'm with Ephraim, but I really don't know. Ideally, I want a Norwich or QPR midfielder.

Surman, Bradley Johnson, Ephraim these guys look the most promising.

I wouldn't want to play Ruddy in any game home or away that's the thing... I'd rather just play Given away at Everton for example then Ruddy at home against West Brom.

          Hmm fair enough.

I'm with Dyer at the moment, haven't looked into Surman or Johnson though.

With Dyer I don't want Sinclair as my 6.0 mid, any other options at that price? (can't find an extra 0.5 to squeeze out for any of the solid 6.5 mids)

Yeah that's not bad at all. One sticky GW 4, but other than that, they rotate well, and both are proven FPL point scorers.

Think I may go with that to diversify from having both Kenny and Orr at the back.

They cover each other well, especially with the Newcastle - Sunderland rotation.

    Taarabt Hoolahan Sess Toure

    RVP Rooney Zamora

    Subs : Given , Orr , Simpson , Ferguson

Shocking bench i know but i think after the first gw im gonna take out yaya for a 6.0 mid and use the 2.0 to upgrade another midfielder. Thoughts ?

Hey all – sorry to do this but a quick RMT, hopefully my first and last. My first post and FPL.

    From GW1…

    Al-Habsi (Given)

Rafael Kompany A Cole (Orr, Simpson)

    Sessengon Malouda Silva O'Hara Taarabt

    Rooney Zamora (Holt)

Unsure of Cole if he is worth the extra .5 over Ivanovich. Could potentially go:

    A) Ivanovich - Albrighton
    B) Cole - O'Hara

Was also thinking Toure could be a better value option than Silva?

what's the point of rmts right now with all the transfers still up in the air that can dramatically change practically all of our teams? why don't we just sit tight except for those players who are pegged and wait until the last three days when team sheets become more certain, injuries are up-to-date and most transfers done?

wait and see how community shield goes first. i wouldn't like starting off w/somebody unproven and not adapted yet. also, w/their striking options and tevez still up in the air, hard to predict how mancini will start off. there are plenty of other striking options: rooney/rvp/bent/zamora/rodallega, etc...

First attempt at completing the team - would appreciate any opinions/recommendations/criticisms

    Baines Kompany Hughes (Briggs Orr)
    Albrighton Silva Dempsey Taarabt (Marveaux)
    Van Persie Bent Holt

Team selected on first handful of fixtures for each side. A little concerned that there are no ManU, Chelski or 'Pool players in sight? Good thing or bad?
