Our next Members article looking at the idea of โvalueโ sees Forwards come under the microscope. With a fresh revision of players last weekend in light of factors such as transfers and pre-season tactics, weโve tweaked the Projected totals to give you an up-to-date reflection on our thinking. While many of our top ten value forwards are lower-priced options that perhaps may be more suited to rotation, the kind opening prices afforded to the likes of Luis Suarez and Peter Odemwingie propels a couple of FPL big-hitters firmly into our thoughts.
I have been having a bit of a morning fiddle (ooh er) experimenting at a purely GW 1-3 team and trying to cram some more high value players in - particularly from City, in then occurred to me: for those anticipating a fairly early wildcard City's fixtures aren't actually all that amazing - away at Bolton and Spurs in weeks 2 and 3. It would make sense to have attacking coverage for the Swansea game but beyond that I'd be happy with just Kompany if I was WCing GW4. Yet I've seen posts written by people planning a GW4 wildcard talking about having 3 City players, what am I missing?
Open Controls๐ฏ You lost me at fiddle ... ๐
Open ControlsTheir fixed prejudices, perhaps?
Open ControlsExcellent! ๐ This ought to be tattooed on certain people's foreheads, on the inside ... ๐
Open Controls
You aren't missing anything mate, I'm not even sure what the GW1 result will be to be honest. If anyone should be looking at any City player, it's SWP
Open ControlsI had him for a bit. If he goes out on loan, he may be a shoo-in.
But I can't see him being nailed on.Open Controls
Bolton away is not a terribly difficult fixture. Kompany and Silva will be in my team for that game for sure but ill be looking to swap clichy for luiz or bosingwa GW2/3
Open ControlsIm considering 3 city players for GW 1. Kompany, Silva and Aguero as a punt. GW2 Aguero is transferred out for whoever plays out of Drogba and Torres.
Silva and Kompany is season keepers...Open Controls
Please RMT..
Team game week 1
Foster (Ruddy)
Enrique, Kompany, Rafael. (O'shea, Caulker)
Walters, Downing, Silva(V), Malouda. (Sinclair)
Holt, Gervinho, Carrol(c)Open ControlsYou want to start Foster against United??
Gervinho, wait till GW4
Holt is unproven so far and Norwich have been terrible pre-season!
Walters against Chelsea is just stupid to be honest.Open Controlsrafael...rotation/fixtures
caulker...will he play?
walters...fixtures
malouda...tricky to decide if he's a good choice rotation
gervinho...untested/rotation/fixtures
carroll...fixtures
I'm finding it difficult to decide on attacking players because many of the big clubs have rough fixtures...Man Utd and Spurs are worst here so maybe Liverpool and Arsenal are better targets
I'd be looking for at least one £12.0m slot up front so you can pick Rooney/Van Persie/Tevez/Aguero/Torres when it suits you...don't underestimate the importance of a good captain...the only real alternative is a slot for Lampard/Gerrard/Fabregas but this must be an inferior strategy
Using cheap players as your captain might work out really well for you but I'd be surprised if there are many people who feel this has worked well for them in the past...the problem comes when Rooney (or whoever) runs hot, loads of people get him and you find it difficult to get him into your team
I'd also be looking for a £10.0m slot for Carroll/Suarez/Gervinho etcOpen Controls
A. Enrique (if at Liverpool) silva and benayoun
B. Simpson Malouda toureOpen ControlsA but be mindful a Benayoun punt could backfire when he comes on in the 82nd minute in GW1 and scores you 1 point
Open Controls
Please RMT:
Al-Habsi (Given)
Cole / Kompany / Wilkinson / Simpson (Orr)
VdV / Moses / Lampard / N'Zog (Ferguson)
RVP / Bent (Vellios)Open ControlsWho is Vellios?
Ferguson is 4.0 for a reason
Otherwise really nice.Open Controls
Which one:
5.5 defender and Rooney
or
Cole and Saurez/Bent?Open ControlsAnyone care to rate my Texaco ff team? Please be as critical as you like. Championship knowledge is not a strong point of mine!
Forde
A.Faye D.Moxey I.Calderon D.Fox
M.Gradel A.King J.Coppinger P.Whittingham
M.Chopra C.Mackail-Smith(c)Open ControlsDoesn't look bad to me, but I'm no Championship expert either ๐
I like the midfield.Open ControlsThanks for looking mate. First time i've done it this season. Only signed up because i was bored waiting for FPL. Also did a metro team. Will probably give up both by wk 2
Open ControlsDefence is too week. Because of not getting points for playing, your defenders need to getting plenty of clean sheets. So dont save money there, (unless of course like me your betting on some skills from leceister this time).
So downgrade whittingham and pack in the brummy defendersOpen Controls
When are the monkeys going to launch a mobile site?I'm sick of just sitting around doing f*ck all when I'm outside. This time last year I had tinkered with my team a hundred times on my mobile. ๐
Open ControlsDo it in your head. Just picture SWP scoring tons of goals, and imagine yourself frantically making room for him in your team.
Or I guess invest in a new phone. What do you have right now?Open Controls
RMT, First post.
Given (Ruddy)
Cole A, Kompany, Jose Enrique (Simpson, Orr)
Silva, Malouda,N'Zogbia, Moses (Dyer)
Van Persie,Carroll, Holt
Carroll for now but may change to Suarez/Aguero. O mill in bank.Open ControlsI think it's good. Personally i think you've stretched your squad a bit too much for the big hitters. Keeping a trio of Dyer, Moses and Holt is prob not going to last. Also, keep an eye on Enrique to make sure he goes to Liverpool
Open Controls
Reports are suggesting that Joe Cole will be moving to QPR on loan with Pool paying 1/3 of his wages to facilitate the move.
Any interest for us FF managers? What do people think?
I wont be touching him but it will make me have to re-think Taraabt as not everything will go through him anymoreOpen ControlsWhat are peoples thoughts on having Jose Enrique in your team if Liverpool sign him before the season starts?
You would think he would be a nailed on starter for them and represents good value.
However Liverpool have let in three goals in each of their pre-season games, which is hardly good defensive form!
Also, would this mean he would play LB and Johnson would move to RB pushing Kelly onto the bench?Open ControlsREPLY REPOST
His value, where he to be a starter at a team like Liverpool, is too much of a bargain.
At Liverpool, he will easily outscore his rivals in the 5m bracket i.e. Bardsley, Hughes, R. Johnson etc...
and Kelly will be benched.Open ControlsKelly will get plenty of games given johnson's injury history.
Open Controls
If he moves to Liverpool he is a must have imo. So much so that I am going to have to work all morning on redoing my team to work out how to use him best.
Open ControlsYou'll struggle.... ๐
Seriously though, if you can put together a defence where you need someone to play for you in GW1, 3, 6 and 9 onwards, he's a bargain. Otherwise it's like when your mum buys loads of stuff you don't need, just because its on offer so it must be a bargain.Open ControlsLol, my girlfriend does that.
"But we don't need 30 poppadoms, we'll never eat them"
"They were on offer..."Open Controls
Can u please pick one option
1)Sinclair,Alcaraz and Ruddy
2)Moses,Bardsley and Al-Habsi
3)Moses,Jagielka and Ruddy
I like 2 the most but I need your opinionOpen ControlsA wee bit bored so I threw together a Sun Dream Team. Most will have no interest at all but anyone care to RMT.
For those unfamiliar with the rules heres a few of the biggies:
- Points are scored depending on how your players perform for their club in Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League matches
- No points for assists, only goals scored.
- Budget of 50m.
GK B Friedel £3.0m
DEF G Clichy £4.0m
DEF B Sagna £4.0m
DEF B Hangeland £4.0m
DEF R Huth £3.5m
MID D Hoilett £2.5m
MID F Lampard £7.5m
MID C N'Zogbia £4.0m
MID R Van der Vaart £6.0m
STR W Rooney £8.0m
STR B Zamora £3.5mOpen ControlsThanks for all the comments lads lol ๐

any1 pay much attention to the pre-season form? cant really see that it will help or ever has
Open Controls"Mauro Boselli"
Imo pre season serves to provide some indications on who may/may not start.
Form goes out of the window when teams start playing competitively against better opposition.Open ControlsHmmm...it pays to follow the teams but the form is highly unreliable. I seem to remember that Berbatov had a good pre-season last year and maintained that form once the league started.
Jooi, Cabaye at NEW needs some investigating.Open Controlswell the only one i will be thinking of is rooney and to be honest hes prob the only striker/mid fielder who you can guarantee will start and hes fixture proof too.
Open Controls
I'm really considering Van Persie given that there don't seem to be any recognisable players in Newcastle.
Open ControlsThe usual RMT please
Given Foster
Johnson Bosingwa Baines De Laet Dunne
Silva Moses Hunt Downing Sessengon
RVP Zamora BaOpen Controlswhat are your guys thoughts on VdV? EVE, mun, MCY to start...
Open Controlshe should be fixture proof - i keep stickin him in my team! gooner fan to boot
Open Controls*shakes head*
Lol... actually, VDV is probably the one exception... not sure good value though.
Someone like Bale, i refuse stylistically... straight-lined boringness, can't think of any other who are worthy. (sandro COULD be value... but prob not based on the roasting Harry gave him when he scored that goal! Room for a forward transfer for Spurs...
I am talking about Spurs, *shakes head*Open Controls
My thoughts are:
- He's probably the best midfielder available in the game.
- His opening fixtures are crapola.
- He's injury prone.
I'm liking Malouda for the opening fixtures. He's a rotation risk yes but if it comes off it could be beautiful, if not, it's an easy Malouda > VDV later.Open Controls
Morning.
1. Ameobi vs Ba vs other NEW forward options?
Think i am going 'balls out of the bath, Lynn' on the forwards this season, but curious to the above options.
Cabaye has penalty 'rep', so maybe assume Ameobi not on pens for comparison...
2. Any bolton fans...Bogdan??
(for some reason i think he looks like he has saves in him... although i think it is his hair colour and the likelihood for an associated nervous/defensive disposition)
What is the defence looking like? Impact of Cahill possibly leaving?Open ControlsNo bolton fans?... probably asking a bit much!

Let me try the shorter version
A) S Taylor - Dyer - Bent
B) Simpson - N'Zogbia - Hoilett
I prefer B but really like to have Bent (although he %^%&% me a couple of times last year).Open Controlswhich one?
A Cole, Holt, Carrol
or
Steven Taylor or another 4.5 defender, Rooney, Rodallega
cheers
๐Open ControlsHey guys, would appreciate a RMT:

A.Cole Kompany Briggs
Taarabt Moses Malouda Jarvis
RVP(c) A.Johnson Rooney
Ruddy Sessegnon Brown S.Taylor
Thanks in advance ๐ (or maybe not ๐ฏ )Open ControlsNo, I think you can get away with that. I would have N'Zog in there by downgrading one of Sess/Taar/Jarvis. I've been tempted by AJ up front - do you think he'll play?
Open ControlsI was thinking of downgrading RVP to Bent after GW1 instead of having N'Zog, but will think about it...
I like the idea of AJ, I think he'll play, not even worried to be honest!Open Controls
Looking pretty solid - i'm not convinced by AJ though. Last i heard he was rumoured to be leaving/fulham wanted a new striker...
Open Controls
RMT guys please
Given (Ruddy)
Clichy Komp Enrique (if at Pool) (Wilkinson)(Simpson)
N'Zog Moses Silva Malouda (Sinclair)
Roon(c)Carroll/Bent Holt
Early transfers are likely to be Carroll/Bent>Suarez
Clichy>Luiz or BosingwaOpen ControlsDon't get the love for Clichy personally. He was dodgy at Arsenal and I can't see him being a solid starter - surely rotation is on the cards? Also he offers little going forwards
Open ControlsSeems the best option at 6.0 for now considering SWA then bol as 1st two games. I'm pretty sure he's been signed as no1 left back. I had Kolarov last season and towards the end of the season he was getting dropped for Zabaleta (who's a bloody RB).
Like I said I'm planning on bringing in a Chelsea player anyway for GW3 depending on who is playing. Probably LuizOpen ControlsZabaleta plays either side? Mancini loves to rotate in any case and Clichy is as much an accident waiting to happen as Kolarov (well okay, maybe not quite so much). Also they've signed a new CB - Lescott can and has played LB for them before too.
I guess time will tell but I think there are better options out there.Open Controls
I'm seeing quite a few low/mid priced midfield options this year and not many high priced good options with Gerrard/fabs/lampard all lookign dodgy. The upper/mid price options aren't great either while we're still waiting to see the roles of Silva, Malouda, Modric etc.
On the other hand Rooney and RVP are both looking pretty solid picks imo - i reckon i'll start with both of them and a relatively weak midfield to play the fixtures with.
In other news support still haven't replied to me regarding the fact that my history/leagues have gone missing. I'm doubtful whether they'll sort it out before the start of the season which is annoying.Open ControlsI'm thinking the same, Rooney and RVP for sure, going to go for the likes of Ssessgnon, maybe OHara etc.
Can't decide over Baines.
I normally play my WC GW 6-8 to sort it all out once we know who are starters.Open ControlsBaines i'm torn over too. Lot of money but he should be a solid pick right through the season. Reckon i'll take the plunge.
Sessgnon is lookign good, Taarabt i think could do well in fantasy terms, Moses/Barton/NZogbia all have the potential to be great picks too.Open Controls
Does anyone know how Grant Holts been going in the preseason?
Open Controlshi everyone
please RMT, wld b much appreicated
Al-Habsi (Ruddy)
Vidic Kompany Hangeland(Taylor/Connolly)
Moses Adam Taarabt Silva(Ferguson)
Rooney Zamora SuarezOpen ControlsDon't know who Connolly is, personally wouldn't have Adam, too expensive, likely be overshadowed by Gerrard.
Would go for Hughes over Hangeland, and invest that money in MF.
Overall good.Open Controls
