It’s a short, sharp Scribbles we offer this morning as the tension ramps up ahead of tomorrow’s big kick-off. Aston Villa hope to bring back on old face in Thomas Hitzlsperger, while Roy Hodgson believes in Owen Hargreaves’ fitness. Alan Pardew offers an olive branch to Joey Barton and Tony Pulis is looking for six new players as Stoke square up to Europe. Here we go, folks:

Jose Enrique is set to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool today. Kenny Dalglish’s search for a left-back looks to now be over and with one year left on his Newcastle contract, Enrique’s transfer is thought to be around the region of £6m. More importantly, as far as Fantasy managers are concerned, Enrique is priced at just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and can be expected to see plenty investment on the back of this move.

Alex McLeish has been linked with a move for Thomas Hitzlsperger. The Villa boss admitted yesterday he would need to trade players before making any further acquisitions but with the German available on a free, a return to Villa Park may not be out of the question. As Big Eck went on to say:

“Thomas’ name has been mentioned against a number of other players. If it came to a choice, we’d have to think about everything if we were able to get that choice. Maybe in midfield, in terms of experience, we are a little bit lacking.”

Roy Hodgson has offered Owen Hargreaves a contract at West Brom. The ex-Man United midfielder has seemingly proved his fitness to the Baggies boss and is now mulling over a move to the Hawthorns. Hodgson’s take on the situation is:

Look, we’ve done the test, we agree with you that the knee’s OK and you can play football. And of course if you’d like to come and play for us that would be lovely. But whether or not our offer is going to be interesting to him, that’s what I don’t know.

Stoke are in the market for six new signings, according to Tony Pulis . Speaking this morning, the Potters boss admitted he was looking to strengthen the club’s options up front before the end of August. With a bid in for Peter Crouch as well as Spurs team mate Wilson Palacios, it looks like being a busy three weeks ahead on the transfer front.

Both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri won’t feature tomorrow for Arsenal. The duo were left out of Arsenal’s squad for the trip to Newcastle by Arsene Wenger and their respective exits from the Emirates are edging closer by the day.

It looks like Joey Barton may still have a part to play at Newcastle, after all. Only a week or so ago, there seemed no way back for the midfielder after the twitter debacle that saw him criticise the club, but Alan Pardew is willing to offer him a chance if Barton can prove he’s willing to give his all:

Joey will determine whether he stays. I’ve told Joey that he won’t play for me and I won’t include him unless I think he’s pulling for us. If Joey turns around to me and says that’s what he’s going to do, then he will. He’s in the process of weighing up what he needs to do.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Given (Ruddy)
    A. Cole Kompany Gabbidon (Brown, Simpson)
    Moses Silva Nani Taarabt (Sess)
    RVP Carroll AJ

    Bank 0

    Would you:
    A) Stick
    B) Downgrade Cole or RVP to generally stengthen all round and also leave money in the bank for Chelsea attacking coverage?

BIG risk having both rvp & dzeko. Rvp could limp off after 5 mins whilst dzeko not do much and be subbed.

I would drop one and get rooney. His got the better gwk2.

Kelly will get a run at some point and will probably start the first game due to Johnson injury – but expect him to be rotated with Johnson and Enrique to be rotated with aurelio

Of course long term fitness is a factor here

Think I'm going with what I have now. The 0.5m cash will either mean Carroll-->Drog or Silva-->Nani/Young in gw 2.

I may be wrong but I think:-

Kelly and Johnson will rotate for RB (Johnson Favourite if fit)

Enrique and Aurelio will rotate for LB

Don't think Johnson will play on left (with Kelly on right) now Enrique has signed.

Need a bit of insight in QPR

Buzsaky & Ephraim, looking on soccerbase, Warnock seems to rotate these during games. Ephraim seems to be the favoured player but reading around there seems to be a feeling, by some QPR fans, that he is a little light weight and might not play too much this season.

Can anybody enlighten me, will either of them get much playing time?

The FFS boys have Buzsaky in there provisional line up.

    Cheers

Of course it's real, one stinker in the form of Henry obviously, but you can't have everything. Young over Nani, aye, maybe thats a risk, Kuyt isn't mentioned enough round here. Doubled up on City defence, nothing wrong with that. Bent is proven, Goodwillie is brilliant, and rest aren't too bad. Granted, it's not exactly the same as everyone elses team, but then what the F*ck does everyone else know? About the same as me. Nothing.

                that's better. He's my thoughts.

Bos and Hanley are poor choices.

Risking Gueye and Goodwillie straight away is also a bad idea, maybe wait and see how they do after the first couple weeks? I admit Goodwillie is worth a risk, but not both of them. You also need more money up front, what happens if you want RVP/Rooney/Aguero in a couple weeks time? You'll have to take a big hit getting them in. It makes sense sometimes to spread your money around more evenly so that you can cover yourself for eventualities such as:

                Amazing Form
                Injuries
Transfers (while the window is still open)

Hopefully this will help you make a couple changes.

You could be right on Gueye. I could probably get rid of one big mid and turn him into a better forward, so thats helped. Thankyou. Might get Cole back instead of Bos, he was a compromise. But Hanley is as good a shout as any other 4 mil defender, he should start with Samba crocked and if he doesn't, what have I lost really? Cheers tho 🙂

2 out of those 4 lines are identical to my team, and i've been happy with it for over a week now, and with 3m in the bank to get RVP in like yourself. Very good team. IMHO.

If I had to nitpick anything, i'd say can you not change Shawcross? Stokes fixtures aren't particularly good. But I wouldn't do it if it messes up the rest of your team in any way.

Can easily change him, that position has been changed every day so far for me, had Jagielka, just can't find a defender i'm happy with, any suggestions?

I've gone for Roger Johnson, captain of Wolves through some nice fixtures is a good choice imo

Yeah Jags is good if you can bench him for this week? I'm doing it with an Everton def. Change Simpson to ORR or Gabbidon and play Hughes, Kompany and one of them just for this week? QPR have Bolton at home, prob more chance of a cleanie than Stoke? Or they'll both just get 2 pts!

Other than that i'm struggling tbh!

I prefer the 2nd one. Although I did see some post a while ago about OHara being injured. Also, the Balotelli red card danger is there. Zamora instead of Balotelli?

I think he's OK value for 5.5. He did get 13 last season but I suppose that was with the services of Adam, may not be so fortunate this campaign I suppose.

Cheers guys. He didn't make the noon deadline then?

Hughes at Fulham a decent replacement at 5.0? Or do we reckon Alcaraz? Any other suggestions?

      Collins at Villa?

might take a gamble on a cheap young liverpool defender just for GW1, seeing as they'll probably have a few playing.

              anyone know who's most likely?

              Kelly, Flanagan or Robinson?

Check out the totalFPL site, McNulty has made an analysis this year as well.
