Our analysis of the Gameweek captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening as Fantasy managers quickly turn their attentions to the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we take a three-part approach, which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

After his midweek demolition of Sunderland, Sergio Aguero is head and shoulders above any other candidate as City prepare for the visit of Everton. Selected by 52% of voters so far, the Argentine – in spite of his superb season – has surprisingly blanked in three of his six home appearances and has managed only one double-figure haul at the Etihad to date. The Toffees roll up to Manchester in poor defensive form, though – without a clean sheet on their travels all season, Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded in five of the last six Gameweeks.

Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are both fancied to deliver the goods away to Newcastle. Costa has delivered more yellow cards than goals on the road (five to four) and has notched just once in his last three away trips but having missed out due to suspension in midweek, he’ll be raring to go against the injury-hit Magpies. Hazard has yet to score on his travels this season – indeed, the Belgian has managed only two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season and has blanked in each of his last four appearances on the road.

Charlie Austin’s superb home form brings the QPR top scorer into consideration, with 7% of the votes cast. The budget striker has racked up four goals and two assists in his last four at Loftus Road and, up against a Burnley side with a single clean sheet on their travels, he’s looking for a third 10+ points haul in front of his own fans which would fire the R’s out of the drop zone.

After netting Villa’s winner at Palace on Tuesday evening, Christian Benteke is amongst the favourites for a plum home clash with Leicester. The Foxes arrive without suspended skipper Wes Morgan and look unlikely to improve a defensive record which has seen them keep out their opponents in just one of the last 10 Gameweeks.

Alexis Sanchez is also in contention as the Gunners roll up to Stoke. Unlike Chelsea’s Hazard, the Chilean has delivered on the road – four of his nine league goals have arrived outside of the Emirates, suggesting he could be a real differential against a Potters side with a single shut-out since Gameweek 3.

My last few transfers have been shocking:

Sakho: got injured the week I got him, got rid the following gw
Chadli: same story, 1 point from two games, still have him though
Rooney: Got him for a hit, doesn't recover in time

If he gets points for other players when you don't own him then they've either shown better judgment or been a bit luckier than yourself - but it doesn't make him a troll.

Having said that, he's more expensive and scoring fewer points than last season, so he isn't on my watch list yet.

So here's what I'm thinking... I still don't own Sanchez and the only way I can see to fit him in would be to replace Fabregas... but I would also have to downgrade a striker, so...

Fabregas and Bony to Sanchez and Austin

I have 2ft's and it would give me £0.5m to upgrade a defender.

    Worth doing or not?

I would say yes. Sanchez looks to be the most legitimate avenue to goal for arsenal but I'm not sold on Austin due to the away form - having said that... I'm still considering getting him in this week

Yeah, Austin isn't ideal but he's nailed on, got penalties and isn't in bad form... so looks decent enough at £6.1m. Definitely feel like I need Sanchez.

Wow that is rough. You'd be lucky to get 6 points out of that back line this week. I guess it's worthwhile to use a transfer somewhere there, but I'm not sure where! Duff and Naylor are out so you don't really have to worry about who to start though 🙂

        Jags and Dummet are certain.

The question is. To Azpilicueta or to Terry?
Toby a big doubt, and only plays on monday…so Ronald should not talk tomorrow..

    Currently:

pondering Bony to Tekkers, given Bony's poor away form and the upcoming road fixtures for Swansea, but not entirely committed to anything yet. It's just that Tekkers vs Leicester looks so tasty.

        Thanks,
I keep looking for something to upgrade Jedinak to, but then his pens rise up and convince me to keep him. Wanyama, for me, is the ideal fifth midfielder. Was dirt cheap when I bought him and he plays 90 nearly every week. Occasional goals. Bench depth is so important as we move into the upcoming congestion.

A lot of options but not sure what to do, can I get some good advise:

    Foster
    Baines, Chambers, Yun
    Sanchez, Hazard, Siggy, Chadli
    Aguero, Bony, Austin

    Bench: Krul; Duff, Wanyama, Naylor
    2.7 itb, 1FT

    A) Save FT
    B) Bony -> Costa
    C) Duff -> Hutton
    D) Chadli -> Downing (or any mid up to 9.2)
    E) Baines -> Azpi
    F) Baines -> 4.9def (leaves enough cash for Austin -> Costa next week)
    Or something else ?

He banged his head with Vert. He played on for about 20 minutes in the first half but I guess they didn't want to risk him after halftime.

    Foster
    Terry, Chambers, Hutton
    Sanchez, Fabregas, Siggy, Downing
    Aguero, Lukaku, Berahino

    Bench: Jakupovic, Wanyama, Moore.

    3.1 ITB, 1 FT.

Thinking of doing Lukaku -> Benteke and Wanyama -> Eriksen. Thoughts / suggestions?

"all the effort" isn't really that much effort as I brought him for free.
I'd stick with Yaya due to fixtures, but I'm trying to find a way to fund Costa..

ok lads here are my tips this week -
    chelsea to beat newcastle
    hull west brom draw
    liverpool to beat sunderland
    qpr to beat burnley
    arsenal to beat stoke
    spurs to beat palace
    city to beat everton
    west ham swans draw
    villa to beat leicester
    man u to beat southampton

    thoughts?

I decided to gamble on a high scoring spurs v palace game.

    Eriksen IN Montero OUT
    Kane IN Rooney OUT

I looked at austin but I did not like the difficult fixtures between the easier ones.

Rooney has southampton who will park the bus and a resurgent liverpool in the next two.

Three/four spurs next four fixtures are too good to pass up.

I figured if eriksen goes terribly bad against palace I can get downing instead for him/fabregas (if he gets a yellow and is suspended)

Spurs seem to have a bit of zip about them recently before the chelsea game last week
