Gameweek 18 comes to its conclusion this Monday evening as league leaders Chelsea make their way to the Britannia. Now level on points with City, Jose Mourinho’s side will need to improve defensively on their travels – they’ve managed just one away clean sheet all season in the top-flight.

Thibaut Courtios returns for the Blues this evening, whilst Oscar drops to the bench as Cesc Fabregas moves to a more advanced berth. Eden Hazard and Diego Costa owners will be desperate for the pair to improve their away displays. The Belgian has managed just two assists on his travels, whilst Costa has now scored in only one of his last four on the road – those who handed him the armband will be hoping to be vindicated after Charlie Austin stole the show at the weekend.

Certainly, Stoke’s defensive frailties bode well for the Blues. Mark Hughes’ side have conceded in each of their previous ten and last managed a shut-out back in late September.

The Potters have averaged two goals per match over the last four in front of their own fans, though, and will be looking for Jon Walters and Peter Crouch to continue the form which saw both bag a goal and assist apiece in the recent home win over Arsenal. With Bojan having recovered from the hip problem that forced him off against Palace last week, Hughes will be buoyed by Chelsea’s recent away form, which has seen them win just one of the last four on their travels.

    How's Costa playing tonight?
Is he getting stuck in. Or is he wearing gloves again and going missing like away at Newcastle.

In all honesty, he's playing for the team tonight.

Stoke fan here (mention it my posts so people can try and understand any bias).

Not the type of player to give Shawcross too many players of I'm honest - though he did get caught out on the offside trap once which was most costly.

Doesn't have the turn of pace that a Suarez etc has which are the type of players which have given Ryan the run around in the past. Vital that Costa provides the physicality up top for Chelsea, not so good for FPL though.

Chelsea does get a bit intimidated when you are physical with them. Probably the only strategy that may work to keep them at bay.

Fabregas is what he is, a steady player who virtually guarantees you 6-8 every week, but unlikely to get 15 very often.

There's something to be said for those sorts of players, a good FPL team needs a mix of Fabregases and Hazards IMO

It's tough to be an elite player without goals. Maybe Cesc is exception to that because he's SO good at getting assists (And bonus points), but it does make his upside lower than the likes of Sanchez/Hazard/Yaya.

my thinking is I picked Haz over Cesc before gw1, and I'm sticking with him until the end. For now, it seems I've been right, b/c he has more points and I nailed the Haz (c) choices.

I did that early in the season, for about 7 GWs, and they did not tend to score big on the same GW. I'd rather take more risks and have mids who both score the same GW. So, at this stage, I only have one Chelsea mid, and it's Hazard.

Starting to agree. Come January WC, I do not see Costa on my team. It's either a different high priced forward who is hot (RVP, Rooney, Falcao) or someone the next level down, and $ invested in four stud mids and 3 stud defenders (I have 3 stud mids and 2 stud defenders now). Of course, when Kun comes back, that is an investment, but then I will have Kun, Austin, and some other value-based forward (i.e. not Costa).

I do hope when they are analysing Bardley's hack on Hazard that they pull up Nev's last game at the Brit.

He committed at least 3 straight red card challenges that in the end he was laughing at the ref for not sending him off. He retired a few weeks later...

Not a good 45 from our (stoke's) boys though. Far too physical. Chelsea are the best equipped to deal with that kind of nonsense. That said, there's no point going toe to toe either.

Chelsea are just really good aren't they.

Chelsea are a top side, we are still in it though. I'm happy with that.

Ryan Shawcross has had an excellent half though.

He got caught out playing offside but other than that he's smashed through the back of Costa a few times. He's decent at this level.

I'm happier with him than any of the centre halves at United, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc.

And how John Stones gets an England call up in front of him is wet yourself funny. No wonder woy can't win a game at the World Cup.

Haz and Fab without Costa or one of the 2 with Costa?

without for me too much money can have a very strong midfield and def is you go with players like

      bony
      tekkers
      austin
      kane
      giroud

it was just a tad late.. most players wouldn't have got that extra tap in
hazard wouldn't have done it if the ball wasn't just about to go out..

but hazard made it look good with all his rolls (a common judo technique to prevent damage from a fall)

Any ideas on what to do hear, I'm lost.

    Guzan - Elliot

    Baines - Clichy - Wisdom - Yun - Moore

    Haz - Alexis - Yaya - Downing - Boyd

    Bony - Rooney - Welbeck

    2FT and 0 itb.

All I can think is Elliot to Hamer and have 2fts for next week?

    Thoughts much appreciated.

Might as well all play netball if they're sending people off for that. Couldn't believe they were even discussing it.

Why are we obsessed with getting people sent off? Embarrassing.

I love watching aguero (apart from his usual haul against us spurs) but his injury and costa going off the boil has made this game more interesting

when aguero back could do with rvp and costa firing, otherwise wildcards will just mean endless kun austin kane forward lines and scary looking midfields
