Not a bad debut for half an hour, was it? Sergio Aguero’s star turn at the Etihad Stadium has many a Fantasy manager scrambling for a way to fit him in their shiny new Wildcard team ahead of Gameweek 2. According to Roberto Mancini, he’s not even 100% fit yet. Let’s hope they give him penalties, too. Here’s the Scout Notes from last night:

Mancini Tries a 4-4-2
Roberto Mancini dropped Mario Balotelli to the bench for the home game with Swansea. Adam Johnson took the Italian’s place as new boy Gael Clichy started at left-back at the expense of Aleksander Kolarov as Mancini started with a 4-2-3-1. While there’s no doubt about the star of the show, it was noticeable that Sergio Aguero replaced Nigel de Jong upon his introduction.

This allowed City to play him alongside Edin Dzeko up top in a 4-4-2, with Yaya Toure bombing forward from a regular central midfield position. Not to take anything away from Aguero’s performance, of course, but this change in personnel and shape from Mancini helped City really take the game to the Swans. It will be interesting to see if this becomes a more prominent formation for City over the months ahead- certainly, it makes them a better proposition going forward and Aguero has already shown what returns he can offer.

Mancini’s introduction of another new boy, Stefan Savic, also saw another alteration- Joleon Lescott movd to left-back and Gael Clichy played at left midfield in place of the withdrawn Adam Johnson.

Swans Keep on Passing
Brandan Rodgers kept to his passing principles last night. Swansea had the greater possession at the Etihad Stadium and made more passes than any Premier League team over the course of Gameweek1 , but a lack of cutting edge saw the Swans swept aside. Michael Vorm’s debut in the Swansea was almost as eye-catching as Aguero’s- the new signing from Utrecht made an incredible 12 saves, with some of them outstanding stops.

Sweansea’s 4-3-3 was pretty lop-sided; Scott Sinclair was higher and wider up the pitch on the left in comparison to Nathan Dyer on the other flank. Dyer was far narrower and deeper, which enabled Angel Rangel to bomb forward down the flank on numerous occasions.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Alright fellas, any advice?

    Given (Al-Habsi)
    Kompany, Cole, Enqrique (Gibbs, Simpson)
    Silva, Malouda, Moses, Formica (Taarabt)
    Suarez, Aguero, Campbell

Initially had Nani, Bent and Carroll but decided that with United's next few games, Malouda would be a better choice than Nani. Suarez will score more than Carroll i reckon and I dont wanna miss out on Aguero if he goes up in price, though i would love to have Bent in the next few fixtures.

    Any advice is appreciated!

Look nice, though the defense does tapper-off a bit. Thousands go with Simpson for his supposed attacking wing characteristics, and he barely goes forward and the owners get blessed with a cleansheet. Don't look a gifthorse in the mouth.

I saw him play when I was in spain a year or so ago. He was phenomenal then. He is a great player and last night proved it, Swansea or not. I'm getting him in. his link up play with Forlan at Athletico was great. against top and bottom opposition in Spain..I see him as provider and scorer for many games to come.

Keep thinking that, Balotelli won't be in the picture for long. and I have no problem w/ Mancini playing forwards imn wing positions as well. They are quite versatile, besides this guy won't need 90 to do damage anyway. My vote is with the striker that cornered Caulker like Barry Saunders... You can roll with Carroll.

I appreciate the comments, it probably is a bit knee jerk to be honest, but I foolishly had Balotelli thinking Aguero was a few weeks away from playing, thought it best to get him in sharpish before his value rockets.
Re: Smalling and Jones thought 11 million for 2 defenders who over the next weeks should be playing regually for UTD was good buisness.. Any sugestions ?

Don't agree with Tchoyi's number at all. Fabio is quite versatile, and will scoop him. Hopefully he plays more of the Park-like hybrid position; he definitely has a nack for getting in scoring areas. And always has a LOT of touches on the ball. Way more than Tchoyi, who didn't have a lot of action, when he did, they were decent...but few.

The irony is that those who are yelling 'kneejerk' after Aguero's debut are guilty of that themselves in their instinctive reaction to the inevitable clamour to pick him.

Aguero is an exceptional talent, not a journeyman who happened to get a goal in week one. Yes it was 'only Swansea'....but he only had half an hour for goodness sake. His starting price in the FPL game assumed that he would take considerably longer to find his feet than appears to be the case.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth would be my advice.

"Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth" were my exact words, he will expose average defends and panic the above average defender. What makes him tough is he corners like an NFL running back but a Vidic won't buckle him with a strong challenge to the body.
