As if out of sympathy for the Fantasy Premier League, or podcast recording software crashed at the death this week. Finished. Kaput.

Panic ensued – hands on head there were cries of “I can’t go through that again” from host Mark as I desperately attempted to recover our lost words. Luckily, temporary files restored, our fifty fourth episode was rescued and rebuilt like Ledley King’s knee. Hopefully it won’t collapse again next week – like Ledley King’s knee.

Within it you’ll find unusually muted tones as Mark and I dissect the events or rather “non-events” of the weekend. Frustrations vented, this week’s broadcast picks up to its usual pace and departs on an optimistic note.

Listen in and share our pain.

Can anyone offer advice on Everton players?

I currently have Baines and Osman. Is Saha a better bet than Osman?

I have a front 3 of Rooney, Bent and Torres and can't seem to drop any of them now they're in there...

Osman seems the best bet assuming that's your budget limit. I wouldn't touch that front three either.

I just droppped Roon to Torres - expect more points than Roon against TOT
Saha is better option than Osman imo but if he fits to your budget ...

I'm happy with Rooney, pre-season form and a goal+3bps in the first week doesn't seem drop-worthy to me, especially for the first game at old trafford.

I like the idea of Saha, if I could have 4 forwards I would take him...Baines is more like having a 2-5-3 anyway 🙂

Bruce says that John O'Shea is 50-50 to be fit enough to return in defence at the weekend, but also praises Wes Brown:

Horizontal, with regards to my captain choices I can see quite a few...

GW2: Torres, Bent, Saha, even Baines
    GW3: Bent, Torres
    GW4: Saha, Yaya
    GW5: Bent, Saha

I think I have at least 2 decent options for the near future.

I'm not sure I'd ever feel comfortable captaining Saha, given his injury record, but it might be a genius move.

And will Torres be a top points scorer? He looked a lot sharper last week but don't think he had any shots on target, which seems to be critical with respect to both scoring goals and picking up BPs.

Bent is a good forward but Villa are playing more defensively this season so I think his chances will be limited.

It's just a personal opinion, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with any of those as captain. But maybe my risk tolerance is lower than yours.

      Best of luck, anyway.

    My Team at the moment

    Given(Vrom)
    Boswinga Kompany Distin(Brown Simpson)
    Nani Silva Cahill Sinclair Moses
    Torres Suarez Holt\Johnson

    i have a few worries--
1.Not having Baines,no Villa attacking coverage
2.No money in bank and no thinkable transfers at the moment if nethng goes wrong
3.whom to take from holt\johnson or even dj at that price range
4.whom to start from moses and that cheap striker option

and if i go with baines my team would be

    Given(Vrom)
    Baines Boswinga Kompany(Brown Simpson)
    Nani Yaya Sinclair Sessengeon(Moses)
Torres Suarez Agbonhlahor(dont ask me abt ths choice :D)

Don't threat on Villa's attacking, there will be little of it.

Still not sold on Sessengon - he's in my team at the moment but very close to be kicked out, will be wathing him closley this weekend.

IMO Moses will out score N'Zogbia this season so I'd keep him in the team and leave holt on teh bench but that's just my opinion

You don't need Villa attacking coverage, only one worthwhile is Bent.

I sense they will win most games 1-0 which could in theory suit Bent because he will probaly be the one who scores and then it will result in 3 BP.

I prefer the Baines team option. I can see him getting as many points as TCahill (who never scores more than one goal a game) and I reckon Sess is a classic case of a MID playing as a FWD, has good fixtures too.

Baines+Sess is better than Distin+Cahill - Everton could easily do their normal crap start to the season too.

I think your first selection is better. You could drop Silva for Yaya and have some money available to maybe upgrade Vorm. Villa rotate with Stoke, WB and QPR (up to GW9 mainly) and by changing out Vorm you don't need to worry about your keepers ever...bar injury. Johnson is your man but I'd gamble on benching him and playing Moses. To continue with freeing up money you could look to do Bos to a Villa def in the near future as I think you may only have .5 saved before then...so you'll have 1 mil to play with. Just some thoughts...hope it helps..

Some feedback from you all would be most appreciated.

    Hilario (Vorm)
    Baines/Kompany/Brown (De Laet/Simpson)
    Malouda/Yaya/Nani/Dyer (Moses)
    Rooney/Suarez/Holt

Yes I know the Hilario/Vorm thing isn't safe, but I was considering Ruddy alongside Vorm for a while so for a Chelsea goalie @ 4.5 is a no-brainer.

No Villa coverage in there so potentially worrying - could take out Yaya for Nzogbia but then lose City attacking coverage...

Nani - coin flip between him and Young really and Rooney is staying as I'm not trusting AVB and potential rotation upfront. Sturridge could be worth a punt as he'll be back for GW4.

Yeah, so some chit chat about potential whether I've done ok or not would be most kind.

    Thanks.

Well would you look at those differentials...

I really wouldn't double up on Chelsea's defence like that, screams bad idea. Also Mikel is risky...

Gutierrez looks like a good FPL player but don't fall for that trap, he screwed me a few times last season. Better off spending that money elsewhere.

Do you mind me saying that I think Pardew is going through a bit of a turn, here? Shouldn't some of this stuff be kept in house?

        Not at all.
I think Pardew is totally in the dark, utterly impotent. He just has to placate fans who are very frenetic and involved. The way the club is run is just poor in general.
Everyone knew Enrique was off, we should have replaced him long ago, or lined up his successor. We have the money.

I ought to declare an interest - I like Ryan Taylor, and think he is a better footballer than is generally given credit. Has he a tough character, do you think, ToonTom?

I used to think so also. But he hasnt played well when he has played for us. I would though play him ahead of Guthrie for sure!

However he is a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none. He isnt really a FB, his tackling isnt up to it. So is he a CM or winger?! Technically good, but I havent seem him play well for a while..could be down to regular footy...but still the case.

            Need a real LB!

Here is my new team for the next couple of weeks at least

    Hilario (Given)

    Brown kompany Bosingwa (Simpson Orr)

    silva (moses) Sinclair Young Nzogbia

    Bent(vc) Saha Torres(c)

Tell me boys and girls....will this triumph???

    Questions:

    1) Is Torres worth 11mil if he is a rotation risk (especially with the signing of the new striker)

    2) Who out of Chelski's midfield and forwards is the most likely to start every game (except for lumps)

      1) No. Wait until he's scored a few, maybe 3 in 4.

      2) Nobody knows!

Does anyone else think this Hilario love is madness? Here are my reasons:

    - No Cech means less chance of clean sheets for Chelsea
    - Keepers from top clubs less likely to get save points and less likely to get Bonus points
    - Hilario will definitely lose his place once Cech comes back and maybe earlier if he doesn't perform. Combining with the likes of Ruddy/Vorm is asking for trouble
    - Slight chance that Turnbull will get the keeper's jersey. I'll laugh me ass off if that happens.

With keepers, far better to go for safety in my opinion with a good inexpensive combo that you don't have to change. Given/Begovic for example.

you may be right but also Chelsea havent just taken a random off the street and put him in net, he is a decent keeper (nothing amazing) but im sure he can pull off a few saves. Still a good chance of a CS especially with the defence and holding midfielders in front of him.

Don't agree really, Chelsea are good at keeping the ball, West Brom aren't gonna have many chances to score (Stoke didn't even have a real shot) and like Otters-Pocket said, he isn't a pathetic goalkeeper, he is capable of pulling off saves.

For me though, the turning point was allowing me to do

      Cole -> Baines
      Given -> Hilario

so I keep my chelsea coverage and now I have Baines!

    Given (ruddy)

    Kompany Baines Fabio Warnock (Senderos)

    Malouda Silva Sinclair Moses (Fox)

    Rooney Suarez (AJ)

Was thinking of possibly dropping Silva for Yaya and freeing up 1.5 mill...any ideas? Just seems a well balanced team. Torres and Bent seem like gambles to me and Aguero not guaranteed to start

      Not bad.

I'm not a fan of Fabio and don't see many cleansheets
      I prefer Surman to Fox
I agree that Bent is a gamble - I just don't see him getting many assists.

Yes Torres is a gamble but no more than Malouda. I don't think there's a safe Chelsea option (Lampard might be nailed on, but I think he's getting past his prime - certainly for 12mill).

Surman/Fox is a coin toss for sure

Bent is a greedy **** and will seldom get assists.

Good point on torres. Guess i would rather him than malouda but AJ looks good. More options for cheap strikers than cheap midfielders

Probably B ... I don't like the double city defence in A which also has no Chelsea cover. Definitely don't go for A... and I don't like Ferguson in either as his value is only going to go one way.
