Our post-Gameweek look at the new injuries sustained over the weekend brings worrying news for Sam Allardyce as a trio of Hammers players limped off at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers eases fears over his captain’s weekend absence, though Stoke have concerns over Ryan Shawcross once again.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced on 79 minutes of last night’s draw with City at Stamford Bridge after picking up an injury, according to the club’s official website.

Crystal Palace
In his first appearance since Gameweek 16, Marouane Chamakh lasted just 24 minutes before being forced off in Palace’s home loss to Everton with a suspected broken nose. Alan Pardew remains optimistic that the Moroccan will be back in time for next week’s trip to the King Power Stadium:

”The loss of Cham was crucial today, his guile and experience around the box would have been important. He’s got a broken nose we fear, so fingers crossed he doesn’t get my cold. He wasn’t concussed, but it was a heavy blow to the nose. But I think he’ll be okay for Leicester.”

Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers allayed fears over Steven Gerrard’s absence from yesterday’s win overWest Ham, with the Reds skipper expected to return for the midweek FA Cup replay against Bolton:

“It was just precautionary, really. After the game the other night, his hamstring was tight. We’ve got a lot of games over the coming months, so we didn’t want to risk it when we have other players that are fresh.”

Southampton
Lloyd Isgrove was a late withdrawal from the Saints squad that lost to Swansea today, meaning Ronald Koeman could only name six subs in the 1-0 defeat.

Stoke
The Potters skipper Ryan Shawcross lasted just 41 minutes of the 3-1 win over QPR before being forced off through injury.

Sunderland
Wes Brown missed the Black Cats’ 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday after failing to prove his fitness upon returning to training, confirmed Black Cats boss Gus Poyet:

“Wes trained for a couple of days and it is nothing serious, so it is just about making sure he is 100% so that when we throw him in he is ready because I can tell you that it is very hard. It is great for us because we now have a big squad and I can refresh the team if I need to, but of course the ones that performed at 3pm against Burnley will have a better chance next week.”

Swansea
Marvin Emnes lasted just 15 minutes of this afternoon’s trip to Southampton before being withdrawn due to injury. Garry Monk has further worries on the flank after Emnes’ replacement Mo Barrow was stretchered off towards the end of the 1-0 win. Leon Britton missed today’s clash due to illness, according to the club’s official website.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce is counting the cost of yesterday’s loss to Liverpool after a trio of players were forced off through injury at Anfield. The Hammers boss saw centre-halves James Collins and Winston Reid both limp off with hamstring injuries, whilst Andy Carroll picked up a knew problem in the 2-0 defeat. Post-match, Allardyce rolled out an update:

Those three coming off has thrown us into a major crisis at the minute injury-wise and you can’t expect to come to a place like Liverpool and win when those things go against you. In all fairness to Ginge, because of the injuries we had in defence [in the build-up] he tried to come in and get through this game himself, but his hamstring injury had obviously re-occurred by half-time.

Allardyce also confirmed that midfielder Cheick Kouyate missed out after returning from international duties with Senegal nursing a back injury.

It may have been missed a little..but..Last season the Liverpool mids, headed by Coutinho, were top for "through balls"...A simple pass played into space for Suarez, Studge and Sterling to run on to..and very little passing to feet lark.
Since Sterling has been playing as the striker for Liverpool the same passes have returned to Coutinho's game....He now heads the "through balls" stats once again..Five assists in six games and Sturridge on the way back...

    Last six gameweeks...http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/4747/

Could do that too... Costa to Goroud freed up some funds

Not sure...The main point is how they play together...Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge will play the same game as they did last year and I'd expect them all to prosper..Coutinho, Gerrard, Henderson and Sterling himself all appeared very high for through balls last season. It was a plan and it worked...

Coutinho came onto my radar when sterling went up top. Only out now as needed funds for studge. Good pick

So you think Sterling is still an effective FPL option when playing out wide?

But earlier in the season when pushed out wide Sterling didn't do much FPL wise.

trust me big liverpool fan here. we're looking electric right now.
Sterling sturridge coutinho are all viable options right now regardless of fixtures. Their movement makes their "positiions" almost irrelevant

I'm an LFC fan too and yes we have been playing brilliantly.

Good point. I just keep thinking back to when Sterling did nothing out wide earlier in the season, but I guess we were in horrible form then.

yehh but as I said he ll be moving centrally so much it wont matter. Maybe more assists than goals on the way possibly

Definitely...Through ball down the channel for him to run on to...Just like Wally...All of Sterling, Suarez and Studge drifted out wide in games last season...and they all did well from it...

Sanchez and two of Cazorla Ozil Wally Kos Giroud or Bellerin imo...

Basically the whole team is clicking and sharing points so it's a toss up.

Sanchez and Cazorla probably the best attacking at the moment

Currently on Giroud and Sanchez, but considering the fixtures I think I'm gonna go with triple Arsenal cover

I'm shipping Cresswell and Puncheon which gives me 12.8 to spend

    A) Bellerin and a 8.4 middfielder (probably Sterling)
    B) Cazorla and a 4.4 defender (probably Hutton/Dummett)

After the double GW I'm planning on bringing Costa back in and drop Giroud, so I will play 4 games with 3 Arsenal players

So I guess sticking to the template is the way to go. Went Walcott over Cazorla and a big swing there.

My first non captain fail since Christmas though as a silver lining..

When Giroud, Ozil , Ramsey and Walcott were all injured he may have been fairly essential, dont think the same can be said now, especially with that big price premium

Aye..He's so expensive that it's not just a case of Sanchez or Caz...but an additional three mill on top..and that improves another spot in the team enormously..

Said this a couple of times today and mostly got derision.

Maybe they'll take it from you. 😉

People are playing the points that have already been scored rather than looking at what will happen in the last 15 games. Which is the only thing that counts now.

Not necessarily essential but in the top 5 best players in the League so I'd rather he was in my team. Plus, if I recall, you've said you got him in late so mustn't have too much value tied in him?

But what does Wenger think? That's more important than your opinions.

My opinion is that Arsenal will want to win the FA Cup and go deep in the CL. Which means Sanchez doesn't play every PL game when Wenger has other good options.

Wenger listens to his players too much and Sanchez always wants to play. I would have rested Sanchez against QPR and Hull in the cup meself.

You said the same of Hazard right? And you don't think Aguero is essential. So are you avoiding all 3 in your wildcard?

          1. Ruth_NZ
            • 11 Years
            10 years, 12 months ago

Not essential does not equate to not an option.

Had Costa not received his ban Hazard would have been gone from my wildcard. As it is I've kept him and ditched Sanchez. 90 points this GW so it seems to have worked out OK.

Incidentally, my comments about Aguero were related to the bandwagon hysteria to get him back in for GW 22 when he couldn't be 100% fit and had 2 poor fixtures coming up. I have been proved right. But I never said he wasn't a good option after that. He is now in my team and will be captain next weekend.

The point is that there is no player that is currently demonstrably essential. You guys with your template would have it so. But it isn't so. That's how come I have beaten the top 1000 in 9 of the last 10 weeks.

There's seem to be a going trend for going sans Sanchez now, it may be valid route in any case considering his ownership% as well. It may be golden for those of us with low rank and are chasing, that extra money ITB is great for investing in those bench spots in Gw27.

This NLD will be very interesting, still not sure if I want to opt out now on WC or after the NLD.

(Unlike Costa), his 3m premium is the cost of captaincy.

He's pretty much the main guy in an in form, free scoring Arsenal with upcoming easy fixtures. That's as close as being essential.

We yet to see the effect of Ozil Walcott Ramsey and Gru on him, unless it dents significantly, he's in my team for the rest of the season.

I don't really think value is the concern now at the 2nd half of the season
