The FFS Cup – Sponsored by FanDuel – First Round Draw

This evening we roll out the first round draw of the 13th instalment of our open to all Fantasy Premier League cup competition.

This follows a qualification round, which saw 1017 managers join previous winners Jonty, Gribude, Ninja_Fit_Saints, Mch, Wild Rover, Mark and our reigning champion I Casillas Winning in this first stage of the competition, which takes place in Gameweek 12.

The cutoff score was 53, with rank deciding entry for those who scored exactly that tally in Gameweek 11. The rankings threshold was 73,759.

For this latest contest there are more than £1,000 worth of prizes for UK based entrants courtesy of our partner FanDuel, as well as £350 in Amazon vouchers to the top three managers at the end of the competition.

All UK entrants who took part in qualifying were also sent details of how they can receive a £10 free credit when they play their first FanDuel game. This is still valid and can used anytime during the competition.

Among our former winners Mark will take on Buzzedagain, who is ranked 362,422 places below him, while I take on Bash Villa, whose top 10,000 rank makes a mockery of my lowly sub one million placing.

Wild Rover has drawn another well known community opponent, Stilicho, in the first round, Gribude will face Optimus Clyne and Ninja Fit Saints takes on R32omon.

Elsewhere among our winners, MCH has a match up with Sporting, while I Casillas Winning faces Sticky Toffee Pudding, who is in the top 20,000 in the overall rankings.

Other notable match ups include Scoutcaster andy85wsm’s draw with Gamez Rodriguez and Torres Magic’s match with jimbob.

Parm and Baines on Toast will be going head to head in this first round, as will two other community regulars Kings of Lyon and Pompeyfan.

Others taking on our moderators and contributors include Mata is the Juan, who faces Spencer, and Jafooli who takes on Ryan.

The highest ranked manager in the competition is F.C Harlech, who will be thankful of his 120th placing as he gained the cut-off score of 53 in Gameweek 11. His highest overall ranking this season was 10th in Gameweek 7.

Another who is familiar with a high rank is 2012/13 FPL champion Tom Fenley, who takes on Pink Unites.

The full first round draw can be found here.

Good luck to those involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

Last 2 cups - missed qualification by 1 point
This time missed by 2 points

Do we have any Chelsea fans on here with an opinion on Pedro. His FPL scores have been amazing, but his stays are rather underwhelming

Not a Chelsea fan but he will always be a bad game away from the bench, will never be nailed on but has potential for sure

The main worry is that he always gets subbed off early, but he could be a decent 4th mid in this kind of form

Pedro has only really been starting because Willian had been granted compassionate leave.
Like Rover says, one bad game away from the bench.

How is the draw actually done? Some sort of computer programme or do you actually use balls or strips of paper in a hat? 🙂

    1 FT, 1.2 ITB

    Walker Lovren Amat Holebas Smith

    A) Smith > Brunt/McAuley/5.9
    B) Smith + Holebas > Alonso + 4.5/Evans -4

    Thanks in advance 🙂

I really wouldn't lose Smith, particularly if you got at 4.5. Maybe I'm unduly influenced by the fear I get watching him as a non-owner, but he seems to me to have everything you want from a cheapie defender.

Cheers. I got Smith at 4.7, while I got Holebas at 4.5. That, plus Smith's tough fixtures after the suspension, ARS + liv, makes me leaning towards getting rid of Smith. Need a third playing defender this week though

I might play AOA in your shoes. Like all your defenders except Amat and there's no 1 transfer switch for him

AOA gone. Amat > Brunt is possible, but want to keep a cheap 5th defender

I've had a one or zero point defender most weeks this season, probably a better bet taking a zero and banking a transfer if you're happy with your structure. I think you've got a strong defence personally.

Agree with you. Like the structure of my defence, but taking a zero pointer is not my style of playing 😉 Smith > WBA defender on the cards

van der Hoorn could be a nice option. Want to monitor the Swansea def a couple of weeks before considering one of them though. Don't want a defender playing against my fabulous captain Romelu 😀

Tbh I think you might as well just throw in Amat. Swans conceded three last week Brad Bobly may have a change of heart.

I need help. I rushed and went Sanchez to Hazard but now Sanchez is fit.

    Heaton/Pickford
    Kosclieny / Vertonghen / Holebas / Amat / Evans
    Hazard / Manè / Coutinho / Allen / Capoue
    Aguero / Lukaku / Austin

    0ft 1.5 itb

    A. kosclieny --> Friend for a -4 to free up funds?
    B. Kosclieny + Manè --> Friend + Sanchez for a -8
    C. Stop being a baby and hold until after the united fixture and some how get Sanchez back in?

    Hi Guys any help appreciated
    Bellerin>Alonso -4
I have 11 starters without this transfer but would be relying on Hazard, Firm, Cout, Aguero all playing to ensure 11 starters...
    So should I do it?

Pullis played him at full back, because of his dead ball delivery. It was the only way to get him in the team, even left out yet another six foot three centre back for him.

Genuine question, do you sometimes find FPL harder when you support a PL team?

I support Milan so as a neutral find it easy not to have an affinity to any players or be bias

Nah. Doesn't have an affect. When Villa were in the Prem I knew just how terrible they were so it was easy to (C) players vs them.

Yes it makes things more difficult for me - for example I had Firmino As my vice when Liverpool played Swansea. I thought he was a good choice but couldn't handle if Liverpool lost but also my captain did nothing, especially an early kick off.

On another note up until recently my dad refused to have Liverpool players because he didn't want to jinx them or rely on that player for Liverpool to win.

As a Spurs fan deadened inside by decades of crushing disappointment it was a positive advantage to not want to compound the misery by picking any Spirs players for your fantasy team, until latter-day Bale.

                I think I would.

My team Nottingham Forest have never been in the PL whilst I've played FPL.

I do find it easier being a neutral.

I still have Ibra in my team so maybe I do find it harder 😆

I try and keep the two separate but it doesn't always work that way. I was at Man United v Spurs two seasons ago when we won 3-0. I was down the Stretford End and we were already 3-0 up (I had Kane and Rose in FPL).

Rose played a nice through ball to Kane who was through on goal, a little part of me hoped he would score....he didn't.

I'd never want my team to lose because of FPL but I do sometimes hope for that perfect score, i.e if United win I want Ibra to be involved and perhaps we win 4-1 instead of 3-0 because I don't have a United defender.

Doesn't happen all the time but sometimes, I think it happens to most.

As a Pompey fan then the Premier League is unlikely to worry me any time soon. Like most Pompey fans however I do have a severe dislike of Southampton players however if they have great fixtures then I will add them to my team although I would still much rather they blanked every game as Reality > Fantasy for me.

I do know Spurs fans that will not pick Arsenal players and vi si Versa however that just seems pointless to me in even playing the game if you are limiting your player choice in the first place.

                Liverpool fan here.
I've no issues bringing in or dropping players from any team, I'll ruthlessly go with form. I actually find myself watching more games as a result of fpl.
On the flip side, I felt chuffed to get through a season without using Man Utd players a couple of years back, but only realised the run in about gw thirty something.

It comes down to being realistic about my own teams strengths & weakness - ie. I'm unlikely to bring in any Lfc defence unless budget, fixtures & a little form help me out.

I started with Ibra, but traded GW6 with a WC. I'll no doubt have others in at some point.
I never purposely avoided them, there was prob other teams that I've not included over an entire season - I was just surprised at the Utd one.
I've had more Hull than Leicester players in my squad this year!

With Brighton getting close to the Premier League in recent seasons through the play offs this question will one day affect me.

this season in particular my team have a very real chance to progress.

It will be tough I think at first and some bias may creep in but I hope in fantasy terms I see them for what they are - good source of cheap defenders, fourth mid and third striker.

                Must. Resist. Captaining, Knockaert. 😉

Also in the 'keeping Ibra too long' camp but this was due to fixtures where I was sure a haul was incoming (Stoke, Burnley, Swansea at last yippee!).

Due to Utd not having much FPL prospects in recent times it's not been too much of a problem. Owning two Liverpool players this season though...must wash my mouth out.

Use to affect me in the past. Doesn't really now.
Got Ibra mostly due to high ownership and got rid pretty quickly too.
In the past though have been guilty of keeping some guys too long like Rooney last season beginning.
My bias though affected me in a different kind of way. Always avoided Gerrard Terry Suarez Lampard Tevez.
And avoiding Suarez in that season meant red arrows Gw after Gw.

I've been at the Etihad for too many Aguero goals to consider selling him.

Most of my family are also die-hard City fans and they'd all agree that he's the best player to ever wear the shirt. It's hard to avoid giving him the captaincy every week.

Definitely. As a Newcastle fan it's been a tough time dealing with FPL allegiance-clashes the past couple of years, what with Newcastle's penchant for capitulation. Aguero against us last season...

Indeed, it was no more obvious than at the end of last season. I desperately wanted us to stay up, and Sunderland to go down, which made it awfully difficult to pick Sunderland players for the DGW in 37, even though they were good options.

No mention on the Chelsea website either. "Taken off" with Belgium 6-1 up according to them. If there was an injury concern they would usually mention it.

                http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/11/internationals--belgium--bosnia--ghana.html

I don't think he is injured. I don't think he ever was. Sanchez, on the other hand, IS injured (or at the very least he's not 100%) and has been un-flagged. 😕

I will raise that again with Mark (PureOlivia). We had an idea for a workaround.

Cheers. It was never possible on mobile but I really liked it on the desktop version for hardcore planning. 😆

Yes, we've just rolled out a major update to the site - mainly with mobile changes but some on desktop.

We've moved reply back to the right as it used to be. I'll summarise the changes in a post tomorrow.

Smart update, the loading times on mobile have gone down now the sidebar is active so you don't have to wait for an article or home page to load properly.

Not that there was much wrong in the first place, but good job!

Who should I replace Bellerin & Shaqiri with?

Brunt (Have Foster but BUR at home)/ Alonso (mid but then TOT, mci)

              And

Chadli (After price drop), Lallana (Have Coutinho, Firmino LOL but they have the fixtures and are on fire), Gundogan (ML Leader already has him), Snodgrass? (Decent fixtures I guess but its Hull.. And it will be for a hit..), Walcott (But I'd have to go with Brunt instead of Alonso..)

Or any other suggestions? Thanks.. 🙂

What defenders are on your radar? Chelsea seem the obv choice but their fixtures look tricky

Would love Brunt but couldn't justify a hit for him this week

May look to Chelsea in the coming weeks

Wow, things have gone a bit mental around here then!

              http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/14444934

Any more support for my proposal about weekly price changes tonight after this whole Hazard hullabaloo?

For what it's worth I think making players doubts asap on FPL is absolutely the right thing to do, no one's saying they're out but any reports of injury and I think a 75% flag is totally appropriate.

That said, the flagging of a player should have no impact on the game itself (price changes etc.)
