The Community Round Up

With six goals in his last five Premier League games, ditching Sergio Aguero seems unthinkable. Nonetheless, with fixture congestion and blank Gameweeks to plan for, our hot topic posters ponder whether there is method to such madness. Manchester United’s poor form and Tottenham’s sensational season also come under discussion, while our community writers take advantage of the weekend off from Fantasy Premier League action to focus on tournament organisation. Elsewhere, our Members Tables takes stock of Stoke, a team guaranteed to swerve blank Gameweeks, while there is also time for further news from across our other community competitions.

The Community Articles

With a break from Premier League action Community tournaments took centre stage amongst our regular writers.

Jarvish popped by with news of a new Cup competition for FFScout’s biggest chataholics. His Frequent Posters Cup is only for those with at least 15 pages of comments over the last 30 days.

Meanwhile, two of our most popular community tournaments are entering their final, nail-biting stages. Balders brought us news of the quarter -final draw in the Fiffsa 5-a-side tournament, while JaffaliciousFFS UEFA Champions League themed contest has now reached the final 16 stage.

Many FPL veterans are continuing to struggle to gain ground on league leaders, but as Kavali‘s latest update on their progress shows they have reason to be a little more optimistic after some good scores in Gameweek 26.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

With a blank fixture in Gameweek 27, followed by a tricky away clash with Liverpool in Gameweek 28 and possibly another blank in Gameweek 30, interest in Sergio Aguero is starting to wane. This prompted us to revisit Mark’s no-Aguero policy, in which he sought briefly to shun the Manchester City striker in recent weeks. We took a look back at those strikers who proved a better option than Aguero in recent Gameweeks and ponder whether this could be the time to once again consider ignoring the Argentine.

Another issue worth revisiting in the light of blank fixtures in Gameweek 27 is the fifth midfielder strategy. With so many good mid-price midfielders and the need for a full, playable squad to cope with fixture congestion, is the budget benchwarmer’s time up?

Given their loss against Sunderland in Gameweek 26 and inconsistent form, Reckless not anymore pondered whether we are witnessing the worst time in Manchester United’s recent history. The news regarding Wayne Rooney’s potential six week lay-off, plus the strong chance they will miss Gameweek 30 due to FA Cup commitments, is likely to force even the most hardened Red Devils fans to reconsider investing in their Fantasy assets.

In sharp contrast,  Tottenham are a side in good form with a wealth of high scoring Fantasy assets, from the bargain basement points hauls of Dele Alli to the consistent goal scoring of Harry Kane. Tomeister took a closer look at Spurs’ season and wondered whether they really do have world-class players, or they are simply benefitting from good management.

Kane’s strong recent form was once again a key topic under consideration as The Sarjeant took a look at Gameweek 27 captaincy options. He wondered, though, whether in contrast to Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, the Spurs man offers a credible alternative armband option, given his next Premier League clash comes amid a period of heavy fixture congestion.

As our Gameweek 26 Rough with the Smooth round up shows, captaincy is an area of Fantasy management the community continues to struggle with, as many endured a torrid Gameweek thanks to meagre points tallies from popular armband wearers Aguero and Romelu Lukaku. Captaincy choices have also dictated the latest standings in our live Hall of Fame update, which is now available for Members to see.

One of the most talked about football incidents this week was Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez’s perfectly executed pass penalty for Barcelona in La Liga. Andy85wsm’s asked whether such bravado is disrespectful or a bit of fun. The ensuing debate also took in the dire consequences should one of your Fantasy players attempt such a move.

Ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup ties here is a reminder that Balders‘ Team Diagnostic tool for Gwk 30 blanks is a useful way of finding out how likely it is that you will be able to field a full XI.  Later in the week there was further discussion as to how this weekend’s FA Cup results may affect our forthcoming transfer plans and Jarvish was also on hand to once again organise his FA Cup Yes/No competition.

The Members Tables

Superdaj has been taking a look at the teams most vulnerable to headed goal attempts, while I’ve been examining the best Stoke options – the Potters are not only one of a small number of teams to escape blank fixtures in Gameweek 27 and 30 but also have a kind set of short-term fixtures.

For those on the look out for a new striker or attacking midfielder that may be off many of your rivals’ radar here is the latest Goals Imminent table going into Gameweek 27.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The final 16 draw in the Wimbeldon doubles competition was announced earlier this week by tournament organiser Balders.

Meanwhile, in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 42, which saw 61 players depart and 399 remain and in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league Chucky 77 has regained the lead after captaining Dimitri Payet. Elsewhere, Nial Akata retains top spot n Red Lightning’s January to May league.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

How would you get Payet into this midfield?

    Sanchez, Eriksen, Mahrez, Alli, Gosling.

My plan is Sanchez to Payet this week and then perhaps Gosling to Rambo the week after, as a punt.

Sanchez has trolled me badly, this year and last- probably get a brace today. Ozil a much safer, steadier bet.

I could get Ozil in for Swansea at home too, if I downgrade a defender.

Ozil probably the steady, long term choice.

Ozil is getting the bonus points (often for just an assist), the only metric that really matters.

Won't be getting Giroud again, yields reasonable goal hauls but pitiful bonus points, maybe the above stat explains why.

        • 11 Years
        8 years, 8 months ago

The stat explains why but not for the reason you think, his BBPS is good but all those chances created make Ozil's BBPS out of this world. Also Arsenal's defenders do too well too.

I was lucky of late that I didn't sell Özil, I got in Sanchez but not at Mesüts expense, I've owned him most of the season and would rather him over Sanchez, he looks a season keeper bar blanks, injuries etc.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Premier League's shifting powerbase

Is Leicester's success really an oddity? Given the increased TV revenue coming into the Premier League and its clubs will we see more seasons like this, where with a good manager and shrewd transfer purchases a team like Leicester can realistically win the league?

If this becomes the norm which other teams can be the next Leicester? Stoke perhaps? They certainly have the players, manager and infrastructure to possible do better next year.

Or will Guardiola's move to Man City mean that just one team will dominate?

And what does this mean for our fantasy squads. Will at the start of 2016/17 we look to cheaper assets at mid table teams? Dare we miss out on another Mahrez through the old fashioned notion that a Big 4 will dominate?

      8 years, 8 months ago

Anything rated 5000/1 to then become odds on is definitely an oddity! That said with the fairer TV deal and a rising middle class I do think the "Big 6"'s oligopoly is under threat long term but they are still the men to beat.

I think I am in the small minority who thinks Guardiola will not be as successful as most are expecting him to be, at least in his 1st year here. He is a great manager, but by no means is he a guarantee of great all-winning side.

As you point out, I belive Stoke will kick on a huge lot next season, especially if all those wily-wingers/forwards can manage to remain fit. They have also got an expensive DM now who could make those forwards more free-running.

Hull should offer up a few defenders at least in my guess, Stoke definitely will offer at least one attacker to my GW1 team if everyone remains fit.

With Stoke whenever they have agents on the radio around transfer window time they all say Stoke is the team to watch....and indeed as Imbula showed, they clearly have the money and a clear plan. If they can sort their defence injuries out and get a nailed on striker they can really kick on with a great spine of Arnautovic, new striker, plus Imbula, Shawcross (good deputy) and Butland.

Also Imbula is key...look how Arsenal and Chelsea have floundered without a quality DM ...or rather a DM that can perform consistently well.

When Coquelin is absent they have yes. They should be walking this season given ManC, ManU and Chelsea's inconsistency but they find themselves battling Leicester for the title. Flamini as a back up isn't enough.

Yup. It all depends if Imbula can do a Matic or a Kante. If he can, then Stoke will be challenging top5-6 with that squad easily if they add 1 striker.

Stoke's season will probably depend whether they can keep Shawcross fit (the difference between him playing and not is massive), and whether they can keep Butland. Imbula might also be a key player for them next season.

Depends if Pep tries to over-complicate things too much. Not necessarily a bad thing, but he's not shy of really mixing things up each week. Approaches each game with different ideas and a different tactical mindset.

But I wouldn't have any major doubts over his management personally. I'm quite worried about the players he'll attract myself. I suspect the likes of Douglas Costa, Leroy Sané.

This seadon could be a one in 20 year abberation, like when Blackburn. I think Citys success will depend on the players Pep can entice in and on the disposal of Yaya and deadweight. Hope Arsenal can keep pace.

Hopefully it will mean more varied FPL squads. However, if it means bigger, more heavily rotated Premier League teams that could be a problem.

With Leicester's fantastic season I can see most of their players get a significant rise in price, and deciding which of those players, if any, are worth their new pricetags will be an important part of planning for next season. The same goes for players like Alli, Ighalo, ++

It wouldn't suprise me if we get "a new Leicester" next season, though most likely someone that's not in the relegation zone atm. I think Stoke, West Ham and maybe Watford might be in for a good season.

Yeah the move to a new stadium will be positive for the club I think, and they've been good at getting quality players for a reasonable price (Payet, Cresswell, Antonio ++).
Haven't watched West Ham that much this season, what positions do they need better players in?

        i think this year is a one-off.
the "big teams" have been poor and generally not recruited players well this season. They've stood still or even regressed rather than a lot of other sides (Leicester excepted) improving.
Arsenal & Chelsea didn't recruit much this season.
Woodward at Utd seems to have wasted far too much time trying to sign a galatico rather than players that would improve Utd. He might be a commercial "genius" but seems pretty clueless on player recruitment.
Where the difference could come is an improvement in the quality of the traditional mid-table teams. Whilst they still can't compete in the transfer market with top PL sides they certainly can compete financially with European sides for players. (probably to further detriment of young English player development!)
Teams like West Ham, Saints & Stoke are being talked up this season but aren't likely to be any closer to the top 4 pts than they were last season.

'There are one of 14 Premier League clubs in the top 30 richest clubs in the world, although their income is dwarfed by leading two Real Madrid (£425m) and Manchester United (£400m)'

Stoke are in the top 30. The fans used to pay for everything and the owners just own the club, but with the TV deal any club can do well. verdict: Stoke to win the champions league the year after next 😉

So i am leading my cash ML and our format is as follows.

      i) 15 people in the league with a buy in of x
ii) 35% of the pot is going to the normal league where top 3 get a cash prize based on 50%, 30%, 20%. (I am currently first. 2nd is 17 points behind me and 3rd is 57 points behind me)
iii) 35% of the pot is going to a H2H league where i am currently 6th. I have 40 points. First and second are 54pts. 3, 4 and 5 position are within 6 points of me)
iv) The remaining 30% of the pot is divided by 38 and goes to the highest scorer each GW. I have only won 2 GWs so far. You win the GW 7 times and you recover your investment.

Is there anything i should do to improve my H2H performance and chances of winning each GW? While maintaining my position in the main league? I really want to aim for 3rd in H2H and win a couple of GWs more before end of season. I am more of a steady eddy scoring above average amount of points each GW.

Sounds like you want higher variance. So something like doubling or tripling a defence, captaining lower ownership players etc will mean you have more distinguished ups and downs. Even taking more hits would mean 1 week low followed by potentially a future high. But this could all affect your overall league leadership

Head to heads at the top end of the league you want a lower variance but in winning gameweeks vs the group you want high variance. Depends which is more important.

How have the chips been played so far? A bb and tc chip should lead to winds in those weeks?

But, h2h are just tough. I'd forget it and just see where you end up. Don't want to lose normal ml making changes.

A few of them have used chips. Against me on purpose in H2H. But i expect some to save it for the DGWs. I think once i have a 40-50 point lead on second, i'm going to gamble a lot more.

Seeing LR talk about cash mini leagues. How many of us are in them and for what values?

I got invited to a £50 entry league this year with around 70 other folk.. Broken up to league prizes, cup run and monthly prizes. Been good fun and well organised so no one loses interest.

I am in fantasy-challenge.co.uk and I would recommend to all. Sometimes there is a waiting list so new entries can't always get home n, but check it out and book mark it for the start of next season. 30 quid to enter but 4 or 5, depending on your league, different competitions to win up to 100 quid in.

Need a little advice. I'm looking at spending just one of 2 FTs this week by taking out Moreno. Who should I replace him with. I have 6.4m to spend.
