Having announced his return from injury with β€œthat” goal against West Brom in gameweek eleven, Thomas Vermaelen leaps into our newly-updated Watchlist rankings. With a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon for the foreseeable future, the Belgian seems poised for investment as the new-look Arsenal begin to click into place.

Absent for two months with an ankle problem, Vermaelen’s return to the Gunners back-four saw Arsene Wenger’s side record back-to-back clean sheets at the Emirates a fortnight ago. A goalless draw with Marseille in the Champions League was followed by a 3-0 canter over the Baggies, with Arsenal hinting at the “maturity” Arsene Wenger recently spoke of. Vermaelen’s first start since gameweek two coincided with Arsenal’s first clean sheet in the league since gameweek six and saw him return a 15 point haul for his Fantasy owners, with 3 bonus points also picked up for his display at both ends of the pitch.

Despite a wealth of centre-halves to choose from, Wenger tends to favour the Belgian when fit. Vermaelen is far more than just a conventional defender- though an Achilles injury blighted his appearances last term, he grabbed 7 goals in his debut campaign for Arsenal back in 2009/10 and has taken little time to serve a reminder of his attacking sensibilities.

A partnership with Per Mertesacker could flourish at the heart of the back-four, though the likes of Laurent Koscielny will also come into the equation, with Johan Djourou and Sebastien Squillaci set to stay peripheral figures, perhaps only called upon when injuries deprive Wenger of first-choice options.

The loss of Cesc Fabregas is now behind them and with five wins in the last six league games, it’s clear the new summer signings are starting to gel. A look at the upcoming schedule (nor, FUL, wig, EVE, mci, avl, WOL, QPR) only offers more promise of Fantasy returns and with just one of the next eight fixtures posing any major difficulty, the 6.7 priced Vermaelen could provide a timely boost for any potential backers.

I’ve got Begs, and would be tempted to take a 4 point hit on Sorensen at 4.3 this week if this is indeed true as it totally scu’s my transfer strategy. I was looking at doing Suarez > Bendtner this week and Adam > Lamps next week. Given this development I may need to look at:

                    Begs > Sorenson
Adam > Mata (really want Chelsea coverage for the Wolves game)

May as well be on a fresh page πŸ˜€

    Mid-priced midfielders:

I thought I'd only really be comparing a couple of mids here but it appears there are many vying for our attention, fixtures or form, these people have impressed, or are looking to!

This is simply the past 6 weeks points for referral or my own personal thoughts if they've not played. You can view these how you like. I've not put these up to sway anyone one way or the other, just simple stats! I enjoyed doing this. Hope you guys like them! πŸ™‚ (ordered by number of points).

          Klaxon? :S

Ok he hasn't produced for a few games but that can often be the case with mid-price options. He's definitely the very definition of an unglamorous FPL player but nevertheless, his underlying stats (key passes etc.) are pretty impressive. Still worth consideration when Fulham have good fixtures imo.

Well Fulhams good fixtures don't really come in till GW21, but the only person I'd even consider is Dempsey. Murphy has never got over 5 goals in the PL in a year and I really can't see that ever changing, even with being on pens.

Hang on a minute...the PPM stat is a rubbish one. Basically if you come on for the last minute you would have 1 ppm.
Drenthe has bad minutes and 1 good game hence the high PPM

guys, boring question but would love a view. Need a GK under 4.5m to replace Mignelot (who i cleverly got in last GW's WC!). [to partner Ruddy]
I hate using transfers on GKs! do i just go with Vorm and forget about it? (have already got Taylor), or take a punt on Westwood and SUN's fixtures?

I would take a long-term view and not focus on this GW. That would mean getting a GK that rotates alternately with Ruddy, so Krul is the best answer. It may be worth looking at Sorensen situation to rotate him with Krul, if Begovic is really going to be dropped.

If I were you, I'd get Krul in after this GW, and perhaps look at replacing Ruddy as part of Jan WC.

The short-term alternative may be to get Westwood now (play him home to Fulham), and add Krul next transfer, although using back-to-back transfers on GK would be frustrating.

Vorm for me. My alternative is Given at the Lane, so I'll be pinning my hopes on MU shot-fest and Vorm-inator super save points.

In conclusion, I'm not expecting much from GK this GW.

    Vorm
    Wilko - Jones - BAE
    Drenthe - Sess - Brunt - VDV

MC will have to sack him and sue him, but I wouldn't fancy their chances of getting £40m-£50m that they'd hope for.

I believe Chelsea are still trying to recoup about £15m from that situation. Completely unfair that Mutu went out after being sacked and got another club and was paid a huge salary (as there was no signing fee).

City can afford to take the moral highground over tevez. Sack him or let him rot in the reserves.

Okay. Just dipped in quickly in the middle of my day job and picked up on two things:

    1) ? over Begovic's position as #1 Stoke keeper
    2) Suarez back injury

I have both players in my team so either of the both could significantly impact my transfer strategy over the next few gw's. Can anybody elaborate on these rumours pls?

I think begovic is pretty nailed on,
      sorenson mostly plays cup matches.
first time i'm hearing the suarez rumours, could you enlighten me on them?

Haven't Uraguay got another fixture this week? Assuming they have one has to hope that Suarez doesn't play (could be a blessing in disguise I suppose!)

Yeah they are playing Italy on Tuesday. Sounds like he would rather not play by the sound of the article but if the coach asks him to he definitely won't say no.

One can live in hope I suppose. Was gonna hold on to Suarez another gw in the hope that he might just raise his game away at Chelsea after his 4 goals. Provided his back injury isn't bad, being rested could just do us Suarez owners a favour.

Which mid do you prefer out of these to transfer in this GW:

I have VDV and Silva so Lennon/Milner would be doubling up.

    B: Drenthe

    D: Pilkington

A: Evans + Nani OUT / P.Jones + Arteta IN ….. Hope for potential attack from Jones and Arsenal’s run
B: Evans + Nani OUT / Vermalaen + Drenthe …. Attacking Verm and good fixtures of Everton
C: Evans + Mata OUT / P.Jones + Arteta IN .... Mata out instead of Nani

    Team now:
    Vorm – Krul
    Richards – Evans – Brown – Naylor – Simpson
    Mata – Nani – VDV – Silva – Dyer
    Adebayor – Bendtner – RVP
