Demba Ba signs off for the African Cup of Nations with a devastating forward display to send Man United to their second straight defeat. Anders Lindegaard’s clean sheet record is well and truly over, while Tim Howard nets Everton’s only goal as David Moyes’ side kicked off their double gameweek in downbeat fashion:

Demba Ba
A goal and assist for the Newcastle forward continued a remarkable Fantasy season that sees him sit second in the overall rankings with a score of 125 points, pre-bonus. Since he made his first start in gameweek 5, Ba has scored 15 goals and provided 3 assists and has so far picked up 18 bonus points, returning attacking points in ten of those fifteen first-team appearances. One of Ba’s best facets as a Fantasy player is his ability to produce whether home or away- 7 of his goals have come in front of his own fans, with 8 on the road; he’s the anti-Jonathan Walters, if you like. His departure for the African Cup of Nations is now imminent and with it will come a drop in price- considering he’s only 7.6 just now, it only makes Ba more of an outstanding bargain upon his return.

Ryan Taylor
With Gabriel Obertan failing to shake off a toe injury in time to face his former club, Taylor’s versatility afforded the full-back a place on the right flank. This allowed Alan Pardew to solve the dilemma of how to fit both Taylor and Davide Santon in the same first XI with the latter slotting in at left-back. Given that it worked to such devastating effect, the Newcastle boss may think twice about changing a winning formula ahead of the home game with QPR next gameweek. Certianly, post-match, the Newcastle boss admitted this was the best team that “was available“.

Yohan Cabaye
The former Lille man is coming to the fore as the second half of the season kicks into gear. An assist against Liverpool last week was followed by an outstanding free-kick against United as Newcastle shook of the lethargy of last week’s Anfield performance. It’s the first time this season that Cabaye has returned attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks and at 5.9, his set-piece duties and flourishing form could see him pick up plenty Fantasy suitors ahead of a run of games that reads: (QPR, ful, bla, AVL, tot, WOL).

Anders Lindegaard
With five clean sheets from his first five appearances, the Dane once again ousted David De Gea from the Man United first XI. His immaculate record was dismantled by a rampant Newcastle, though, as United failed to deal with their hosts’ determination and midfield dominance. Priced at 4.4, though, Lindegaard certainly seems just as capable as earning starts as the 6.4 priced Spaniard now but with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side facing four of the top six in the next seven gameweeks, including trips to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, their backline may struggle to produce the points.

Tim Howard
So far, it’s been a bit of a disaster for those Fantasy managers who loaded up on Everton players ahead of the double gameweek. A home game with Bolton offered plenty promise- Everton had conceded no more than a single goal in each of their last eight matches and with the Trotters out of sorts, a victory for David Moyes’ side was very much on the cards. Howard’s goal, a long kick downfield helped by the wind that bounced over stand-in keeper Adam Bogdan in the opposition net, summed up an unlikely night. Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell were all forced off, with David Moyes anxiously awaiting the availability ahead of next Wednesday’s trip to White Hart Lane. Those who have plenty Spurs players, however, will be licking their lips in anticipation of more Toffees withdrawals.

Gary Cahill
While most of the recent talk has centred around his alleged departure to Chelsea, the centre-half hit the headlines for his on-pitch display last night. Cahill returned to goalscoring ways to secure a vital three points for Bolton, as his first goal since the opening day of the season lifted Owen Coyle’s side off the bottom of the table and helped the Trotters record back-to-back away wins. Priced at 5.2, he’s served a reminder of his capabilities and if Cahill’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge does, indeed, go ahead, he’ll no doubt attract the interest of plenty more than his current 18.7% Fantasy owners.

Chris Eagles
Afforded a first start since gameweek 15, Eagles got amongst the attacking points for the first time since the first week in November. Owen Coyle opted for a 4-5-1, with Eagles on the right and Martin Petrov on the opposite flank, utilising the pace of David N’Gog as a lone frontman. Eagles picked up an assist while N’Gog once again got amongst the points for the second away game in succession, netting the away side’s opener after they had gone behind to Tim Howard’s bizarre effort for the hosts.

i can understand, now. My original problem was reading what you originally wrote and taking it for what it said, that swansea and newcastle play the same teams in the same sequence in the second half of the season as it did it the first half. Which means, take gws1-19 for each club and its the same for gws20-38, just home/away has changed.

You don't play the 19 other teams, then play them all in the same order again the second half of the season. Guess what, ALL the fixtures that were on GW13 were reversed on GW20. IT'S LIKE MAGIC!

Good team for the next gameweek, just wondering who to get in for Drenthe (8.5 to use). Using probably WC after that, so it's all about the upcoming week and one game. Thinking about Dempsey, Ramires, Valencia, Cabaye or Milner/Johnson (depending which one is going to play @WIG).

At this term, WC team for 22 gameweek looks:

Sorensen, Robinson (want to take a risk in dropping Vorm and Krul)
    Kompany, Shotton, Senderos, Simpson, 4.8
    Silva, Dempsey, Bale, Sessegnon, Walters
    Aguero, van Persie, Sturridge

    Looking bad?

A good 5-6 times times I've brought him in in the last couple of seasons for a run of 1 or 2 pointers, and I bet I'll do it again. I'm such a mug, I'll never learn.

Exactly. But I know I'll do it. Think about the glamour of getting Fernando in for a run of goals, it would be fan-bloody-tastic.

Bah, my team can't get any worse than it currently is so I might as well go down swinging wildly.

Think next gameweek is a better one to use wildcard than this

Reasons Man.u and tottenham good fixtures this week so dont want to lose Nani , ade or BAE this week.
However after this week both man u and tottenham have tough games coming.

Used my free to bring in Yakubu this week for Sturridge , so still on the big bandwagon , with wildcard still in reserve

    SORTED

      i agree.

transfer window activity will have an impact on prospects for a lot of players, and so far it doesn't look like there's going to be a ton of transfer activity what with the tot/eve fixture so key to so many teams.

i myself already had both sess and yak in my squad prior to this GW, so i'll benefit from any rises there.

waiting until the last minute to WC seems the prudent choice this time around.

what does that have to do with anything? Drenthe is NOT a defender on this side. Moyes doesn't understand the more pseudo defenders you stack in the box the less the actual defenders think they have to do. Newcastle's performance should have taught a lot of manager's a simple lesson: instill passion, and get ALL players to close down in their area and stick to an offensive plan...exploit a weakness; and you can do almost anything in this league.

could be, but 2 goals, 4 assists and 8 BPs so far would indicate that he's more "box to box", along the lines of yaya (3 goals, 6 assists, 9 BPs, all in a more attacking side).

Williamson, J Evans, Richards, Assou-Ekkotto, Enrique
    Bale, Silva, Sessengon, Walters, Moses

    or

R Taylor, J Evans, Kompany, Walker, Enrique
    Bale, Silva, Sessengon, Dempsey, Moses
    Sturridge, RVP, Yak

Really want Aguerro, but is the below team better without him or is he a must have!!

The only way I can get Aguerro in Team B is if I change my keepers from Friedal and Mignolet to Ruddy and Mignolet

and change midfield Moses to Ferguson. I can then swap Walters for Dempsey and Richards for Kompany!

but I'll have poor keepers and a midfielder that doesnt start! any other thoughts?

Well he left goodison on crutches, the boy Shane Duffy has been recalled from his loan move. I'd say a month.

Im not going to to my wildcard interestingly enough, see my post below!

Going back to my post above

    Must have Wildcarders’ IMO

    Kompany
    Bale
    Silva
    Sess
    Dempsey
    RVP
    Agro

Who believes that it's the 3-4 players we differentiate ourselves with which will make the leaders?
To me, it's all about the three or four 'unknowns' that will change the season.

A forward line of Aguero, Ade and RVP will do a job for you.

I am in a quandry this week...I have a really strong squad for the coming GW; only two playing away, most strong teams playing weak ones at home. I've already used my FT to get Jags out, but my midfield contains Osman and Drenthe, wondering whether I should change them to a Walters/Sess type player, I just feel like over 5 weeks it would gain more points.

Tough to do when everyones got soft fixtures this week though.

Drenthe is the only one who really stands out, never should have taken a punt on him with his fitness / game time record. People who brought in other Everton players should just consider themselves unlucky, you couldn't expect them to play so badly.

I think Swansea will be fine, just about. It's the posession they tend to keep that makes their defence so effective, in my view. I don't really think that'll change, too much anyway.

Norwich on the other hand I expect to start sliding on down the table. Their goals will dry up at some point and they can't keep clean sheets.

it's been written here before, but i think for that price you'd defo want some newc coverage for their upcoming fixtures. either cabaye or HBA.

united have a bad run of fixtures coming up, so going for another ubercheap defender would allow you to fill in the blank with dempsey.

Right so, like many others, Im also trying to craft a WC team.

    Thoughts are:

    Krul, Vorm
Kompany, Enrique, Kelly, Shotton, J Evans
Bale, Sess, Walters, Dempsey and [X]
    RVP, Aguero and Morison

I have silva now, so can either keep him (with 0.6 still in bank) as [X] or bring in Mata as [X] (with 0.8 in the bank). I'm nervous about having no Man U or (more strongly) Chelsea cover, but I've had Silva all year and if I sell I may not be able to get him back without losing 0.5 for the privilege!

Any thoughts on who should be Mr X? All comments welcomed 🙂

    Cheers.

Interesting shouts, hadn't thought of Nani! Thanks both. Man U's fixtures get a lot easier in a few weeks, so may do Silva to Nani then (if I still can!).

Annoying I had Sturridge and then accidentally took him out when changing my WC team so would cost me a lot more to get him now than before which puts me off on principal (Im just stubborn, clearly!)

Dropped 4,000 places this week, so want to try and get back up there! 🙂
