Mark Hughes takes charge of his first game as Queens Park Rangers manager today, as his side travels up to the Sports Direct Arena to face Newcastle United. After that, Thierry Henry returns to the Premier League, where he’ll be dreaming of a similar comeback to that of the fabulous Paul Scholes. Heroics or not, the Dugout Discussion is here to follow the events as they unfold (or to further reflect on the majestic Paul Scholes’ return). The team news from early game is in…

Newcastle XI: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, R.Taylor, Guthrie, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Best.

QPR XI: Kenny, Hill, Ferdinand, Gabbidon, Young, Wright-Phillips, Derry, Buzsaky, Mackie, Bothroyd, Helguson.

It’s more a case of who’s missing today rather than who’s playing. The home side have a chance to leap-frog Liverpool into sixth with a win today, but they’ll have to do so without arguably their best two players. Senegalese Demba Ba and Ivorian Cheick Tiote have escaped to warmer climates for the African Cup of Nations. In come Shola Ameobi and Danny Guthrie.

As for the visitors, Joey Barton is suspended so misses the opportunity to play at his former stomping ground, and Adel Taarabt (Morocco) and Armand Traore (Senegal) are on international duty.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and as you take your seat I’ll leave you with one brilliant fact I heard yesterday (and no, it’s about not Paul Scholes)… If Thierry Henry plays against Swansea today, it’ll be the 34th Premier League side he has faced. He’s scored against every one of the other 33.

Can't see it myself. Gone for Silva, as he tends to put in the best shifts against the best teams. Bit risky, but it's not an easy week to decide.

Any advice on the WC team below - much appreciated

    Krul, Mignolet
Kompany (Richards), Enrique, Raylor, - Senderos, Caulker
Silva, Valencia, Dempsey, Bale, - Dyer
    Aguero, RVP, Studge

1M for Senderos to Cahill if he gets the game time.

Watching the Swansea game, Dyer was such a bright spark, best part was when Walcott tried to outpace him, possibly the only man in the PL that he can't do that to.

If Dyer played like that every game he'd start every game and should be everyone's 5th mid. As it is I'm still steering clear for now as a fantasy option, but he was great today.

My goddamn lucky league opponent! XD Week in, week out, with a rather bad team of only 101 mil value, it drives me mad. 63 points so far, 71 points last week without BAE. Now I just have to cross my fingers for Aguero doing my more than 6 points tomorrow, or he'll pass... O.o

Sounds like he's better than you to be honest. If you think team value means you have a god-given right to beat him, and he's caning you without having any of the obvious 'fluke' big scores.

True. What I'm thinking is that Tiote leaving has forced a reshuffle of mids that opens up a vacancy for him for now. There's plenty of possible attacking competition for this fullback: Marveaux is injured, Barfa hovers in the background (though I was disappointed in him today), Vuckic possibly too.

Helguson looks pretty attractive. Already made my change though, and frankly will stick with Sturridge as my only Chelsea cover. Also, I don't need a cheap striker, just awaiting Ba's return.

Good work though. Can you do the same for cheap midfielders? Not sure if I want to stick with McClean.

Sagna should be back, so Nani/Djourou is the bigger issue

I've given up predicting scores this season. If Arsenal play like they did today though it could be another 8-2. Gut felling is they'll be seriously fired up, wanting revenge. Will be scrappy and pretty dirty. 2-1 Utd, Song red.

i can't see anywhere near 10 goals again

i'm sure henry must start and like you say, it will be tight... a united win is a big call though i reckon

This year we can play 2 up front against them. Welbeck has to play.

Rather a look of cheap mid range mid options scoring well. Think I will try and go RVP, Rooney, Aguero and get myself a good defence come my GW24 WC. This would mean I would have to rotate one of Dyer and another cheap mid.

Would this be a reasonable strategy and if so who to rotate Dyer with?
