The fixtures have had a good frisking and, ahead of Gameweek 23, our Watchlist rankings have been updated accordingly alongside this new data. Our mid-term choices over the next run of games can be found on your right hand toolbar – follow through for a quick round-up of the notable movers and shakers…

Goalkeepers

Baby steps are taken by the men between the sticks. Strong forthcoming fixtures promoted Joe Hart (money to spare) and Paddy Kenny (on a budget) to second and third place behind Tim Krul – we’re putting that five goal concession down as an aberration.

Following five starts in Manchester United’s last six Premier League fixtures, it’s hard to look beyond Anders Lindegaard given his tantalisingly low price. While the rotation fears ease in the United goal, they’ve escalated down at the Britannia. Thomas Sorensen drops in our rankings, below his Old Trafford compatriot, with a return for Asmir Begovic in the Stoke goal looking a very real possibility following Saturday’s events against West Brom.

Defenders

Following the completion of his four-match suspension, Vincent Kompany will return to the Man City fold next gameweek and finds himself back on top of the rankings without a moment’s hesitation. His upcoming schedule, coupled with greater starting role security, has him usurp the incumbent Micah Richards from our chart.

Goal threat from the back pushes Phil Bardsley up the rankings, as Sunderland’s rejuvenated defence becomes an investment prospect. The triumvirate of Jonny Evans, Ciaran Clark and Anton Ferdinand also make measured gains to offer a variety of choice at the cheaper end of the scale.

The tried and tested -and heavily owned- group of Ryan Taylor, Jose Enrique and Kyle Walker make the most noticeable of drops with rotation, form and fixtures conspiring to trigger a decline in their ranking.

Midfielders

Our first choice midfielders look hard to dislodge with each of Gareth Bale, Clint Dempsey, David Silva and Stephane Sessegnon battling and shuffling for positon in the top four right now. Antonio Valencia has returned to form to overshadow Nani – if any player will threaten that upper bracket monopoly any time soon then it’s likely to be the Ecuadorian.

James McClean continues to rise with form that belies his price tag, with Hatem Ben Arfa going a few steps better after his splash in an otherwise unsuccessful weekend for Newcastle.

Previous stalwarts, Rafael Van Der Vaart and Scott Sinclair, continue to slip down the rankings, with a heavy reliance on penalties, coupled with under performance from open play. The fixture list isn’t kind to either player over the coming weeks, while team-mates offer alternatives with Bale irresistible and Joe Allen and Gylfi Siggurdsson continuing to impresss.

Fordwards

Robin Van Persie and Sergio Aguero remain understandably firm at the top of the charts. Nipping at their heels, however, is Bobby Zamora, fresh from last week’s Watchlist Article and a barnstorming performance against the Magpies. Fixtures remain in his favour over the month ahead – although Dempsey’s popularity will surely dent his chances of investment.

Daniel Sturridge and Danny Graham take slight dips due to stuttering form and testing fixtures respectively, while Danny Welbeck’s consistent returns for just 6.6, has him jump into the middle of the pack as rotatation fears ease a little. Aston Villa strikers Darren Bent and Robbie Keane also rise due to their impressive form, while Hugo Rodallega sneaks in as a consideration.

Our subscribing members will soon be treated to a “Versus” article from Sir Paulos, which goes some way to explain Edin Dzeko’s return to favour – one Premier League goal since October really doesn’t tell the full story.

I've got Lindegaard and Welbeck - sticking to those 2.
Evans you can pick up later for the same price, as he shouldn't be rising with the games ahead.
Valencia is decent, but for his price range I believe there are better options with better fixtures.

Big diff between crimes, crouch/lescott should have been retro punished no doubt. But IMO the fa has set down a market on racism and IMO jt is guilty as charged and will get a similar ban to suar, why do you think avb was so keen on Cahill- rock ?

"Keen on Cahill" cos we need a CB to cover for Alex...to cover for Ivan when he plays RB...to rotate...cos he's English and JT probably spun them a story about how well he will do playing with him and taking over from him when he's gone....you realise we are without a RB we can trust fully. Ivan fits there for now which leaves JT and Luiz as our only recognized CB pairing...

I'm not sure how you can be sure that JT will be charged but I guess we wait and see...

I think the CB pairing is JT's and Luiz's to lose. Yes...I think even with JT we could see a switcheroo from time to time. Then again...our coach enjoys picking certain players for certain games so you never know...Luiz and Cahill could tag in and out...Think that will be the case if I'm honest...

So bench but rotation with Luiz mainly...with JT every so often so he can rest...

I'm not a fan of the idea though (rotating CBs)...would much rather prefer a settled pair of Terry and Luiz.

Just to add HVT...Cahill I feel was bought with one eye on the future as much as most of what Chelsea are doing is based on that theory...Cahill demands a large salary and he will have to earn it in the FA Cup and Carling Cup games mostly I think...for now though...but I see him as a replacement for JT at some point (unless we buy someone else that is).

I personally didn't think Lescott's was worthy of a foul, it's just something that happens when there's 3/4 of you going for the ball.

Crouch's looked like a deliberate attempt at Olsson's eye though. In terms of Rugby Union that would be a 12 week ban, but I guess the FA don't care as much about players losing their sight.

Yeah Crouch anyway, any player who goes up and touches a player in the faces normally gets a straight red card, Crouch deliberately went up to Olsson and done what he done, don't understand how this doesn't warrant a red card.

    A. Krul, Lindy

Very similar to mine, except i hvae a cash issue. How much have you got in the bank? I've dumped Enrique for Cahill / 5.2M def and have Kelly for Brown. So that i've got enough to upgrade Zamora to Ba without other transfers when he's back. Otherwise I have the same as A. If you have cash left for the upgrade why not stick with B?

Anyone taking a punt on Zamora instead of Dempsey?

    I'm contemplating Sturridge > Zamora.

It's risky as I'll probably be going without Chelsea mid/att when I WC next week (may go for Cahill though), but Fulham have some nice games coming up, especially at home.

With Zamora's price he can be benched for the odd game whereas Dempsey costs a lot to have on your subs.

    GW 23 - Richards(eve) Senderos(WBA), Kaboul(WIG)
    GW 24 - Richards(FUL), Huth(SUN), Williamson(AVL)
    GW 25 - Richards(avl), Senderos(STO), Kaboul(NEW)

    GW 26 & 27 - Richards(BLA, BOL), Huth(SWA, NOR), Williamson(WOL, SUN)

    Boom!

Williamson? Newcastle are in the market for a CB, not sure whether they've had a bid accepted for Mariappa yet. His position will likely be under threat if they do bring someone in though.

the bid wasn't accepted, and mariappa is a class below williamson. based on the targets they're looking at they're looking for back up just so they don't ever have to go to norwich again with perch and simpson as their cb pairing

I've just seen the bid was rejected. Even if that's the case, I remember people's reasons for choosing Williamson was because he had no rotation threat, because there was no one else who could play there (Perch aside).

    2 - A - clark (QPR) or B - Oshea (NOR) or C - simpson (bla)
    3 - A - benarfa (bla) or Sturidge (swa)

So we want Liverpool to win so that City don't miss a game. Although we want Liverpool to lose because We Disapprove Of Them. And Enrique to be sent of because we don't have him. We also want Aguero and Silva to come through through unscathed. Although we obviously don't want City to win as We Don't Approve Of Them Either. Right?

Alright chaps, could do with a bit of input on the WC - been a while since I asked for advice on here so be nice 🙂

Want to have a rotating pair in def and midfield, so i've whittled it down to:

    1. Simpson, Brown + Dempsey, Buzsaky
    2. Senderos, Taiwo + Sessegnon, Ben Arfa

Probably won't be playing either defender as will have 3-4-3 most weeks but nice to know I have a backup with a home fixture each time.

    Open to any other suggestions!

I already have Simpson (at 4.0) so no issues there. Will be tough to bench Sess or Ben Arfa so probably leaning towards 1 at the moment. Can actually afford to do

        Simpson,Brown + Sess, Ben Arfa

        Better?

I dunno, Clint has the fixtures and will Ben Arfa start once the Dembas are back? Do you have Bobby Z upfront? I'll be rotating Bobby Z and Buzsaky in my WC team.

thats quite a nice option actually, like that. Not sure I could handle both Dempsey and Zamora at the same time though - can't see Fulham getting five again any time soon.

      Intentional.

The opinion, as written in the piece, is that Kompany is the better choice and we will generally tend to only farm from the same defence if there's notable differences and call for it (Huth/Shotton - price, Simpson/Taylor - one OOP, etc).

Upon further reflection, I would still put Richards ahead of; 1/2 of the players on the list.
Is he really that much of a rotation risk? Given his fixtures, the fact that he is playing Def on the team that gives up fewer goals than any other in the league and throw in 1G & 6A. It is hard to ignore him out of the top 18.

I guess they're backing Kompany as City's defensive cover and not suggesting that you double up on City. Richards is rotation-/rest-/injury-prone and Kompany simply isn't.

      Kompany + 2 of Silva/Dzecko/Aguero FTW

Any thoughts on how this WC team can be improved?

    Lindegaard (Krul)
    BAE/Evans/Senderon (Caulker/Simpson)
    Silva/Bale/Dempsey/Sessegnon (McClean)
    Aguero/RVP/Fletcher

1.7 in the bank (1m of which earmarked for BAE to Kompany next week).

Main question mark is over Fletcher. Considering Zamora but not sure I want 3 Fulham.

        +1.

It's hard taking BAE out before Wigan (h) but Everton (a) could be equally fruitful and City's run is SOOOO much nicer and Kompany/Richards have such better attacking threat

I think x3 Fulham would be overkill, I reckon Dempsey as an attacking option is enough. Have you considered Welbeck? You don't have any UTD attacking coverage? Also, Studge might be an option but, I know quite a few on here are getting shot of him.

    Battle Of The Captains...

I like many (I imagine) am looking between Bale & Dempsey as my captain this week.

Both have a good fixture at home. Both have form. Both very influencial to their team.

Has anyone any opinions on how to decide which one to pick?

I had Dempsey as captain last week, so was more than happy with his return. Now he has another nice home tie against a WBA side that have only kept one clean sheet away from home all season.

Can he carry on his form, or is the consistent Bale the best choice?

Personally, I bought in Dempsey last week as a longer term prospect. The fact the he got a hatrick is bonus. His fixtures are awesome. Would'nt put the arm band on him though. Remember this is still the team that struggled to score vs 10 Men when they played BLA

I have had Dempsey a few weeks now and like I say captained him last week, im not considering him as a knee jerk captaincy because of his hattrick last week, it's just he's in great form. Also scored a hattrick in the FA Cup 2 weeks ago (albiet against Charlton) but Dempsey/Fulham are a very good home team and lack in away games, ie. Blackburn (who btw had just beaten Man Utd at old trafford).

Im sure there are plenty of others but for me I only fancy one of the above. I have a feeling RVP/Arsenal won't give Bolton the 'bashing' everyone is expecting.

suddenly looks like zamora is a better bet than dempsey!??
    nice home fixture coming,
that will leave me with a forward of
zamora kun rvp instead of helguson dzeko rvp

i will have buzsaky in mid instead of dempsey
can also choose walters, and dump sess to mcclean

    thoughts??

I was going to go with Dempsey & Zamora but I think Dempsey is a better option than Zamora if you only pick one.

I have the same front 3 (RVP, Aguero, Zamora) but also have Dempsey too.

Any chance you could fit in Dempsey & McClean by dropping Sess?

Buzaky may have good fixtures but I don't think he is a goof FPL pick at the moment.

        can do valencia>walters, sess>mcclean, vorm>mingolet and 4.7 defnder>mcalluey

don't think it is worth it though.....

        can also do valencia>walters, helguson>zamora,
which leaves me: zamora dzeko rvp

then i will have 3 fulham coverage, sendros, demp, zamora

I have no Chelsea coverage in my WC team. Is that the case with most of you?
