Barrel-chested journeyman Grant Holt was hotly tipped for success at the start of the season after his 21 goal haul helped secure Norwich City’s promotion to the Premier League. For some, though, doubts lingered as to whether the 30-year-old striker, who made his name at clubs such as Barrow, Rochdale and Sheffield Wednesday, could make the step up to the top-flight.

Holt’s opening to the campaign was positive. Starting all of the Canaries’ first four fixtures, there were flashes that his lower league goal scoring prowess could be replicated in the highest tier of English football, as he netted away to Chelsea in Gameweek 3.

Gameweek 5 brought a turnaround in fortunes, however. Holt began to find himself all-too-often warming the bench, as Paul Lambert increasingly turned to Steve Morison to supply the team’s goals. Throughout the autumn, Holt rarely played a full 90 minutes, with 20 to 30 minute substitute appearances becoming a common occurrence.

Nevertheless, this seasoned pro is clearly not one to let his head drop and whenever he was given playing time, Holt offered Lambert a reminder of his attacking potential. He climbed off the bench to net against Liverpool and Blackburn in Gameweeks 9 and 10 and, having replicated this feat in the Gameweek 13 win over QPR, many had suspected Holt’s role as impact sub was more suited to his playing style.

The past few months have put paid to that theory, however. Holt has started ten of Norwich’s last twelve and, as the season unfolds, has re-established himself as Lambert’s first-choice frontman once again, with Morison afforded just 25 minutes in the past three gameweeks, in comparison.

A recent run of games has included a Gameweek 25 brace away at Swansea, a feat that earned Holt maximum bonus points and returned his second double-digit haul of the season. In Gameweek 26 he continued to punish the Premier League’s top teams, notching in the 2-1 home loss to Manchester United. Already this week, Holt’s exploits have earned more than 8,500 transfers in, with a price rise likely within days.

With a return of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) 98 points – including 10 goals and 13 bonus points- Holt is now the highest-scoring Fantasy asset in the Norwich squad. Priced at 5.1m (following a 0.4m drop since the start of the season) he is looking like the best source of attacking investment for those looking to tap into the Canaries favourable run of fixtures over the next six weeks (sto, WIG, new, WOL, ful, EVE).

Amongst all strikers, he is joint-top with Swansea’s Danny Graham for “Value” and, in terms of points accrued, Holt is eighth, above the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Yakubu and Steven Fletcher. With an ownership of just 3.6 per cent, he could be that budget differential Fantasy managers are looking for as Lambert looks to secure his side’s place in the crucial final third of the campaign.

OK, let's put this one to the crowd...from GW28 onwards:

    a) Friedel & Ba, or
    b) Mignolet & Suarez

I'm trailing my leader in my cash league by 110 points, I'm 3rd and from 2nd to 4th is around 20 points, theyre average fpl players but have been so lucky this year. What I'm getting at is it worthwhile ripping apart a team to try to gain over rivals in the double. I can do -

    For free
    Aguero - Rooney
    Kompany - Enrique

    For -8 points
    Aguero - Rooney
    Kompany - Enrique
    Cahill - Jevans
    Mata - Nani

    For -12 points
    Aguero - Rooney
    Kompany - Enrique
    Dempsey - Valencia
    Cahill - Jevans
    Ba - Suarez

Or any other you can see fit my team is

    Soren schwar
Simps Kelly Bad K Cahill caulker
    Mata Silva siggi Moses Dempsey
    Vp Aguero Ba

    0.2 in the bank

What's everyone's thoughts gamble or conservatitve?

I have sorenson and lindergaard. Also have bent. So should I:
    A) Replace bent with suarez and go in this week without a keeper.
    B) Replace one of my goalkeepers. I have 0.5 in the bank so I would need a goalkeeper with a price under 5
    C) Take a hit and make both the transfers.

GW31 looks like the week that Chelsea/Spurs fixtures pick up - I suppose if your plans revolve around these two teams then GW31 is a good time to WC - otherwise GW28 for the double (aned Man Utds fixtures improving in GW29) looks the best time to me.

I figure you can afford 2 expensive (over 6 million) defenders now we've built our team values up a bit. I'd rather have Squirtle, Kompany, Luiz, GJ, Lescott, BAE, Walker or Jones than Vermaelen until Arsenal start papering over their defensive cracks.

A CS or goal at the Pool may make us reconsider that. I think you're probably correct, but doublers aside, Spurs and Jones are in no great shape either. That particular choice is crazy before 31 or thereabouts anyway. We'll know much more in 3 gwks, but for now he's definitely on the radar.

Luckily we have 4 games in which to size up NewArsenal. He'd be my pick of the luxuries at the back, if the team shows form and Gibbs stays fit.

I think Gibbs could also be a great pick, the whole def functions better with a LB.

It could be genius. Arsenal have actually kept a fair few clean sheets at home this season, for all their defensive comedy shows in away games and the Champions League. He's also capable of goals and assists and has a better chance of bonus points as a result, but we'll see. I have him at the moment and I've been thinking of letting him go but I've got to ditch Agger this week, so perhaps I'll change my mind, especially in the light of better fixtures coming up, as you've mentioned

Its a risk....should get at least 2X 4 though....more than I got for Ba this week.

Although I would question the concept of form re Sunderland, who have shipped six goals in their last two matches.

Also with Everton being a derby the form book means little...could go either way.

The pleasure's mine boy. I wouldn't really be that impressed with my ranking though and to be honest in comes a distant 2nd to winning some bobs, reeled the leader in to about 25pts in January but he's pulled away again the f**ker, I'll be gutted if I come 2nd again.
I wish I had a secret to share man but this year I stayed away from hits and tried to be patient with the players I have, I wouldn't be on this site if I didn't follow FPL religiously so I tend to trust that my choices are made from reason (Zamora & Verm excluded :-))

He's still a god of teamsheets. Like Galactus sending his herald silver surfer out to seek out planets for him to devour the scout community sends out Demi to the far reaches of twitter to bring us news of team selection at the earliest oppiortunity.

when I say why.. i mean whilst I am not happy to see any club go into administration, surely going into administation twice in a couple of years suggests a major issue.. this is basically not just cheating the other teams in the league who are managed properly but also the local people who are not getting paid for jobs they have done at the ground.. painters, plumbers, builders , cleaners etc etc..

What are people doing if they have Sorensen and Linde - does anyone think Linde is going to get any game time in the coming weeks? I am thinking of getting Krul in, but it means we will be my only keeper for a few game weeks, as I have a number of transfers planed next GW, so will have to sit on him for Arsenal away - sensible?

    How does this look?

    This week
    Silva > Ya Ya

    Next week
    Kompany > enrique/Skrtel/Johnson
    Wellbeck > Rooney

Think I'll Demps > Ya Ya
then Ya Ya > Valencia in GW 30 or so (once I have moved Lindy out)
