After being shifted around the West Brom midfield all season, it seems as if James Morrison has finally found a home. Used on both wings and through the middle in a conventional 4-4-2 by Roy Hodgson, Morrison’s versatility proved ultimately detrimental to his Fantasy prospects but a recent change of formation has coincided with a rise to prominence…

Afforded a role in the hole behind Marc-Antoine Fortune as the Baggies moved to 4-4-1-1, Morrison’s ascent as a viable mid-price Fantasy option has gone hand-in-hand with a climb up the table for the midlands outfit. A recent three-match winning streak was brought to an end at Old Trafford on Sunday, but a record of four wins and a draw from the last seven is indicative of their upturn in fortunes.

Morrison has been crucial for Hodgson over this recent period, grabbing two goals and four assists as the likes of Stoke, Chelsea and Sunderland were swept aside. Indeed, a breakdown of his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) stats shows that, prior to the Gameweek 22 win at the Britannia, Morrison had averaged just 2.4 points per game but since then, he’s jumped to 5.6, despite recent blanks against Chelsea and United.

With summer signing Shane Long now struggling for first team starts and Peter Odemwingie stationed wide right, Hodgson’s bold decision to dismantle his previously lacklustre attack has proved dividend. West Brom had scored a mere 20 goals in 21 games before the win at Stoke – since then, they’ve netted 14 in seven; a huge improvement that has Fantasy managers examining their attacking talents with renewed vigour.

A look at the upcoming fixture schedule suggests West Brom will be afforded plenty opportunity to maintain their good form. Hodgson’s side face a trip to Wigan and host Newcastle, Blackburn and QPR in the next six Gameweeks – all could be potentially profitable for the Baggies attacking assets.

With Odemwingie set to miss out on the potentially profitable trip to Wigan with a calf complaint, Morrison – at a mere 5.4 – offers ideal coverage of West Brom’s attacking talent against the basement club. Indeed, with game time guaranteed and a mere 1.3% ownership, the Scot looks well-placed to maintain his role as cut-price differential over the next few weeks, as Hodgson looks to steer his side to safety and beyond.

just realised what a dodgy gameweek this is. your players could get injured in the fa cup games and you have no warning or chance to do anything about it

      Hmm, didn't even realise.
      Reina, Bale and Enrique here..
Although I'd have Krul (NOR) Richards (CHE) and Kelly (SWA) on standby, so it's not so bad.

so true AB, thinking about trying to avoid fa cup teams as much as possible this week. also the issue of two games in a few days, might mean tired legs, much rotation or rested in second game!!

Yeah I wrote something about this on Sunday. Makes having a good bench a good idea (well more so than usual) and taking hits for any players with games a terrible idea. Makes Man U even more attractive this week too.

the eto-o one was the worst in the last minute because it denies ballack a dream winner. the shot was rocketing into the roof of the net and eto's arms are up in a ridiculously unnatrual position, it's a penalty all day long

Barcelona are a disgrace to football, most people don't see it because their eyes are too covered in spunk from jerking to the incredible "passing" football which in itself is a joke.

It was shocking. I am not a fan of Chelsea (gunner), but they were well and truly robbed by Barcelona.

Similar to how Arsenal were robbed by Barcelona when RVP was red carded (second yellow for kicking the ball after the whistle blew for offside). At the time people said it woulda made no difference. Given what RVP is clearly capable of, I think it made all the difference.

European refs have a sickening love affair with Barcelona. I am praying that AC Milan do us all a favour and knock them out in the quarters, or Chelsea in the semis

    How does my team look??

    Vorm
    Richards Enrique Kelly (Senderos Santon)
    Mata Silva McLean Dempsey (Surman)
    Rooney Ba RVP

Only got 1ft. Want to do this over the next couple of weeks:

    Mata > Bale
    Silva > Young
    Richards > Evans

Planning to do just the Mata transfer but are either/both other transfers worth a hit? Any other suggestions??

Pretty much everyone concluded from Jol's comments that Kelly would not play... I'm not sure what point u are trying to make... I was commenting on ur first sentence. "eh, if the manager said the player is not fit, why would he start?"

Read it from the start and you'll know what point i'm trying to make. I said I hate when a manager gives no indication that a player is injured in the pre match press conference only for him to be left out of the squad and it turns out that he was in fact carrying an injury.

Burrachaga, Ruggeri and Valdano were good players, Pumpido was a fine keeper but still it was as close to a one-man show as you will ever see.

As amazing as the guy was he wasn't the one doing the defending to shut teams out or doing the doggy work in midfield to win the ball and give it to Diego. There is so much more to it than that. It's just that Diego was so brilliant he outclassed the rest of the team but he wouldn't have stood a chance without the rest of the team. It's a team game. You win f*ck all on your own.

I asked this earlier in the week before Silva's price fall. The consensus was that they'd score the same. 5-5 or 2-2. So i did Silva->Walcott to save 0.1m. With you it doesn't matter so just toss a coin 😉

I posted this stat before but I think it bears repeating... 18 players have more league minutes for Manchester United this season than Berbatov, but only 2 of these players have scored more goals than him. 7 goals in 491 minutes of league action means he's averaged a goal for every 70 minutes that he's played. Crazy stuff....

Last season Chelsea came runners up in the Premier League with 71 points.

Utd and City are 67 and 66 at the moment.

I believe that highest ever second place was 86 points.

Mental that one of these teams will end the season empty handed so will be "a failure".

Yeah Bilbao were awesome last night against Utd.

Domestically Utd and City's record this season is still ludicrous, regardless of how they have done in Europe.

Comparing European performance like that though suggests that the 2005 Liverpool team was great.

5 wins will take both teams to that level.

That was crazy, the levels they played and just not as good as Barca (as shown in the games against the two last year).

Suppose to an extent the same could be said about Utd to City at the moment after the 6-1 (although I don' think the difference between Utd and City is the same as the scoreline from that game suggests).

I doubt it, don't see anyone beating Barca over two legs to be honest. La Liga is realistically gone now for Barca, they will prioritize retaining the Champions League and cementing their claims to be one of the best club sides ever.

Best chance I see for someone is in a one-off 90 minute final. Whoever comes through between Real and Bayern will have a chance to stop them

Confirmed on the United site too although Fergie will apparently speak to MUTV:

    Good morning

As always to the end of the week I start freaking out about my team choise…

    Vorm, Krul
Lescott, Enrique, Simpson, (Shotton), (Kelly (FU))
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, (McClean)
    RVP ©, Rooney, Pog

I thought about getting J.Evans in for Lescott and I’m not sure if I should keep Valencia on the bench for another week and get McClean in instead (plays 90 mins)

Looks good but I'd start krul and kelly instead of Simpson, wouldn't be confident doubling on New defense. Id prob start mcclean too just as I don't think Val will start, not based on anything just personal hunch he will start on bench thus possible 1pt.

    R Taylor --> Kaboul for 4 pts?

Looking at this as a long term move for the rest of the season. I think Kaboul has a goal in him and is a cheaper differential to BAE.

I'm worried about my defence this week too so may be peace of mind for this weekend as well as the rest of the season? Won't be able to do it for free next week either as I will be getting Rooney.

    Caulker or Simpson 🙁

Simpson was good last game, performance-wise. Swans will definitely concede, thats for sure. playing Caulker just for his threats on set pieces then. whereas Newcastle MIGHT keep a cleansheet.
