Grab the popcorn, it’s Saturday night at the movies. We conclude our Rate My Team preview set with an epic 14-minute, stat filled video outlining just how β€œProfessor” Chris Atkinson’s statistical model works.

Admittedly, this is one for the hardcore number freaks but, even so, we hope this offers some insight into the workings behind the Projections and the Rate My Team tool and the effort we put in to maintain it.

If you missed parts one and two of this series, you can catch them here and here.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of Β£12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on β€œValue” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    RMT...subs irrelevant.

    Migs

    Johnson Zaba Cole

    Haz Nolan Gerrard Walcott

    Bony Lukaku Giroud

Coutinho looked a little bit lightweight against Olympicos yesterday.

Looks good. I think Gerrard will outscore Coutinho. I'd probably swap Bony for Dzeko and upgrade Nolan to Mirallas

i don't have any of them...but anywho, not a fan of bony (fixtures) or lukaku (nailed on?) maybe downgrade 1 of your pricier defenders and upgrade one of the previously mentioned.

I usually have at least 1 6m+ defender in my team for the season. Ivanovic did ok for me gw1 last season. also, Remember you need to transfer or bench your Chelsea in gw3. That's not counting any failed punts or injuries to sort. So spreading the cover makes that easier imo

i think so, if 3 at the back he will play oop on the wing, 4 at the back he'll be fullback. if he plays 3 at the back, coleman has a higher chance of attacking returns, but might not be nailed on. id take kolo due to higher chances of clean sheets, can also grab a goal or 2 from set pieces.

Bale hasn't played a competative game since the 16th July and has picked up a minor injury so he can't train.

"He picked up a pain in his foot from his individual training so he's recovered from the [earlier] injury he had to his gluteus," explained Villas-Boas.

"The medical department has examined him and given the red light to his involvement, so we can't have him training or playing at this moment."

        My 2c
Better options than Toure who is way past it - Zabaleta, Merte, Kosc in particular.
Schurrle/Oscar - why pick players for a DGW who may only play 1 game?
Soldado - surely better to see him play first. Could be a slow start.

      Two questions,

      1. why all the love Walcott love over Giroud, has Walcott looked good pre-season?
      2. Is any taking a punt on Zaha or do most utd fans think he will not get many starts?

I'd definitely wait on Zaha, the community shield will maybe give very slight indication. Walcott has proven fantasy pedigree and people are dubious about Giroud after being burned (probably many times) last season. Pre-season doesn't really count for a great deal as we've seen before.

Zaha risk for gametime, one to watch early. Wally has long-term FPL credibility, Giroud does not, but both are worth considering. Wally one of first in my team though.

        1. I'm going for Giroud. I can see why people would go for Walcott though, midfielders score higher for goals and he's got returns over the past 3 seasons.

        2. I'm staying away for now. If fixtures are playing a part in me not starting with RVP then I'm not getting Zaha with them.

      Mannone (Davis)
Toure, A Cole, Collins (Brayford, Parr)
Hazard (C) Silva Snodgrass Oscar (Thomas)
      RVP Aspas Giroud

Only real question mark is over Mannone there I think. Aspas should be alright to start the first game, no? Not fully sold on Lukaku.

I will need more assurances on Mannone before I go in like that but usually clean sheets are a bit of a lottery in the first few weeks aren't they? Sunderland at home to low-scoring Fulham is as good a shout as any for 4.5. Provided that Mannone plays.

I have read so many posts with the view that RVP becomes essential should Bale depart. Fail to see any logic behind this, in fact the departure of Bale has the opposite effect imo. In simplistic terms, the cash saved on him and Bale enables one to stack a very potent range of options to take him on. This makes it essential for him to produce on a very regular basis. Also small returns such as assists, or even single scores will have less impact. I firmly believe he would and should have returned more points last season, with better and quicker service. To date Utd have not addressed this, plus the loss of SAF should not be under estimated. Reckon I'm gonna gamble and take him on.

Disagree, as its useful to have a 'go-to' captain option who can be relied on every week. Bale is one and so is RVP, also maybe Suarez. With Bale gone and Suarez suspended you end up with a load of decent but unspectacular captain options like Walcott, Hazard or Silva, giving yourself a tough choice each week.

Another point I feel that should be looked into consideration would be the comparative aspect. RVP is 100% the best striker in the Premiership. But if your strikers aren't exactly a "replacement" for RVP. You go by the judgement that all of them combined should give you more points than the players you'll get WITH RVP.

What expectation would you put on Baines being at Everton come the end of August? He's still being linked with Man U (though that could just be lazy journalism) and, if he went there, I'm not sure I'd consider him as valuable (probably more CS potential but would no longer have the monopoly on set pieces).

My plan is, currently, to have Cole + 1m in the bank to switch to Baines after DGW1. However, if he's unlikely to be sticking around, I might go Terry and invest the extra 1.5m elsewhere...

Could be a good shout, but remember pre-season form isn't everything. My 5th mid is Pozuelo.

I know. But for a 5th mid I feel better when he has done well in pre-season. Pozuelo, will he be in the starting 11?
