Over the last few weeks, a combination of factors have elevated Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez into many pre-season Fantasy squads. The Saints’ kind opening run of fixtures has caught the eye, while Rodriguez’s more budget-friendly appeal over Rickie Lambert has also played a part in how we assess his potential across the Fantasy games. Having scored three times in the opening couple of summer friendlies, Rodriguez has been quick to hit form and as interest in the former Burnley man gathers, we use the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to analyse the impact of Mauricio Pochettino on both Rodriguez and Lambert over the previous season.

As mentioned previously, the KPI helps us track certain key statistics which are indicative of a player’s form over a certain Gameweek range or season. Having ran the rule over Robin Van Persie’s impact at United compared to his final year with Arsenal, we delve into last season’s data to look at the Saints duo’s performances from Gameweek 1-22 under Nigel Adkins compared to Gameweek 23-38, when Pochettino was installed as the new man in charge at St Mary’s. By also utilising the Comparison Tool across the two periods, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to mull over.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I think Silva is a better option than Coutinho or Walcott. Ramsey is a definite no-no.

Well to be fair last season he was VERY far from prolific and so we aren't talking the next Michu here but I believe he will be nailed on and could happily get a combined 12-15 goals and assists which would put him in the 120+ points range and great value at that level.

Just been doing some homework of Brayford and Cardiff

He now in my squad , actually like the look of Cardiff , good young manager , youngish team that have better quality and solidity about them than the other two promoted teams.
Fixtures not the best , but for 4m would rather have a decent attacking full back , than some no hoper with better fixtures

    A) Mertesacker, (4.5 MID + 4.5 MID), Anelka

    B) Coleman, (4.5 MID + 4.5 MID), Rodriguez

Taking the reverse approach. No Bale or RVP. Planning to get RVP come GW4. It just works better overall for me.

          Boruc / (Davis)
          Kompany / Collins / Mertesacker / (Toure) / (Brayford)
          Walcott / Mirallas / Hazard / Coutinho / (Thomas)

Very, very solid team there. I'd have a similar set up (a little lighter at the back) if I wasnt so hung up on Bale (if he stays). TBH, I'm a little worried if he stays, what the consequences on my team would be.

RvP in GW 4 is a no brainer too.

    Aspas is Michu mkII
His career is just Michu's career one year behind.
In 2007 they were both playing for Celta reserves in Segunda division.
Michu was promoted to first team at 22. Next season Aspas was promoted at 22.
Playing together they scored 30 goals in 187 games between them for Celta.
In 2011 Aspas won promotion with Celta scoring 25, more than any player in Spain bar one and Michu joined La Liga at age 25. He scored 17, more than any other midfielder in Spain. Rayo survived. The next season Aspas joined La Liga at age 25. He scored 12 and assisted 7. Celta survived on final day.
Michu joined the premier league aged 26 and scored 22. The next season Aspas joined the premier league aged 26 and scored.............

A little help would be appreciated with tweaking this team-

    Botuc/ Mannone
    A Cole/ Collins/ Shaw/ Chester/ Parr
    Walcott/ Nolan/ Snodgrass/ Hazard/?????
    RVP/ Soldado/ Lambert

    I only have 4m left!!!

Currently thinking of getting a 4.0 gk for Mannone and playing Boruc for the first 4 weeks.

Plan is Cole to Mert and the 4.5 mid to Kim. 4.0 keeper to whichever Sunderland keeper gets the number 1 spot.

No Man C coverage is worry

      Thanks all for the input

Think i will start (at the moment)-
      Botuc/ 4.0
      A Cole/ Collins/ Shaw/ Chester/ Parr
      Walcott/ Nolan/ Snodgrass/ Hazard/ Thomas
      RVP/ Soldado/ Lambert

      And slowly move to-
      Botuc/ Sunderland GK
      Mart/ Collins/ Shaw/ Chester/ Parr
      Walcott/ Nolan/ Snodgrass/ Hazard/Kim
      RVP/ Soldado/ Lambert

      Still in my mind-
-I have 2 west ham, happy for Collins to become a playing 4.5 Newcastle defender
      - No Man C Walcotts place could become Silva, City forward situation is a nightmare
      - Shaw could move to a diff 4.5, double on Southamton defence maybe too much

I don't think so at all. I don't think they will start two up top and that Long will start ahead of him the vast majority of the time.

By my maths Long and Lukaku only started 7 games together in the league last season and so I don't see that Clarke is going to change that much from one season to the next.

Problem with my method of team selection this year, is that I've made 3 drafts - in view of transfers not happening or happening. Very distressing. I'm actually going to go into this season being very very uncomfortable with my team.

Anyone else in the same boat? Any ideas to stressbust? -_-

Going without Bale - even if he's not sold - his head surely wont be right for the first few games..

    Mig - 4.0
    Kompany - Collins - Ivanovic - 4.0 - 4.0
    Hazard - Walcott - Coutinho - Silva
    Lakaku - Aspas - Anelka

Definitely. That's the one thing I'm still wavering on, Studge or Benteke.
He's the most explosive Liverpool option and if it weren't for his constant fitness issues he'd be possibly the best striker in the game, value considered.

      Jaask is not worth 5.5

If you want a 5.5 keeper, get Migs. I don't support expensive keepers, though. They get fewer save points and rarely ever get BPs.

I've been toying with a Boruc/Vorm partnership, myself.

    Thomas, Walcott, Hazard, Oscar, Lampard

It's not like it's a horrible team. It's just not really great value to be using up a wildcard on three AV strikers that probably won't score more than a goal between both games and three CHE players that most likely won't play all 180 minutes.

There are smarter ways to use that wildcard, in my opinion.

Debatable, last year quite a few made gains off the Reading/Chelsea double, and tbh, that looked worse on paper.

It's a gamble certainly. The amount of time the chelsea players will get is a very valid critism/concern though.

Triple Villa strikers when you'd expect they're going to score in the 0-2 goal range over the two matches. I guess you're banking 4 points each and hoping for more, but for me, the limited rewards aren't worth forcing yourself to wildcard after week 1. Wildcarding early is okay, but I'd rather not be locked into it.

Looked at it, but i'm not sure I like banking on clean sheets at this stage of season. Against Hull looks likely, Villa is iffy imo, as I said below, teams tend to concede more at this time of year, e.g. Chelsea vs Reading last year.

I know some are saying chelsea defenders are good for a goal, but that is so unpredictable to tell when they'll score. It's random with defenders.

2 rolls of the dice are better then one, or at least that is the hope.

Statistically, teams score more and concede more at the start of season, including the big clubs. So id say Villa have a decent chance of scoring in both games.
