Over the last few weeks, a combination of factors have elevated Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez into many pre-season Fantasy squads. The Saints’ kind opening run of fixtures has caught the eye, while Rodriguez’s more budget-friendly appeal over Rickie Lambert has also played a part in how we assess his potential across the Fantasy games. Having scored three times in the opening couple of summer friendlies, Rodriguez has been quick to hit form and as interest in the former Burnley man gathers, we use the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to analyse the impact of Mauricio Pochettino on both Rodriguez and Lambert over the previous season.

As mentioned previously, the KPI helps us track certain key statistics which are indicative of a player’s form over a certain Gameweek range or season. Having ran the rule over Robin Van Persie’s impact at United compared to his final year with Arsenal, we delve into last season’s data to look at the Saints duo’s performances from Gameweek 1-22 under Nigel Adkins compared to Gameweek 23-38, when Pochettino was installed as the new man in charge at St Mary’s. By also utilising the Comparison Tool across the two periods, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to mull over.

Your midfield is hurting a lot. You might want to invest in the likes of Walcott or Coutinho.

Downgrade that defense. You also don't need Migs since you've got Toure already. Could save some money by downgrading him, too.

      Brayford over McNaughton.

      Just my thoughts.

    Dudes,
I had a productive daydream session this morning on the way to the office.

As my team stands, I have RvP, Benteke and an amazing midfield.
    But I have RvP doubts.
United have been poor in preseason, virtually nobody in the team has played for a PL coach other than Sir Alex, and whatever formation they play, whatever "regulars" get established, there will be little/no chemistry yet.

So the gist of it is that I don't doubt that RvP is a very special boy, but the team he plays for must have the lowest confidence they've entered a season with in recent memory.

Things would be simpler (and not worth posting) if Bale were staying put, but that isn't the case. How many of you truly, deep down, took Bale out, found a way to fit RVP in, and now feel GOOD about your team?

Take him out, reinvest the money... your team will look like 11 Ultimate Warriors and you will start to see what I mean.

RvP is not worth 14mil in August 2013, no matter where Gareth Bale plays, and IMO his intention to go to Real shows it.

      I, too, have realized this.

I wanted RVP just for GW1 against Swansea. However, that complicated my ability to sub out the CHE players I had and really limited my flexibility. I'd be stuck with RVP at least until GW 3, and with terrible fixtures, I couldn't justify his 14.0 price tag.

And then I thought about what would happen if RVP failed to produce points GW1. Everybody would panic-sell him and crash his value. but I'd be too busy transferring out my DGW players to avoid this loss in value.

It makes so much more sense to me to buy him come GW4 for 13.7m or so when he's settled in and has good fixtures.

Until then, I'll be braving it without him!

Lambert is the only one of the three that is pretty much guaranteed to start. He's got great fixtures and earned more points last year than Dzeko and Lukaku. He's also cheaper than Lukaku.

Seems a no-brainer to me. Lukaku might be worth the GW1 punt, but in the long run, Lambert is the way to go.

    Coleman/Clyne/Dawson
    Bale/Hazard (C)/Coutinho/Snodgrass
    Benteke/Soldado/Dzeko

    Foster, Bolasie, Chester, Parr

For those who ask, I'm playing Boruc over Foster because I believe Southampton will win this game. Only Hazard for Chelsea but I also have Benteke for the DGW.

Being a Liverpool supporter, i am appalled at the level of hyperbole in assessing our players. Especially regarding Aspas because he's scored a few preseason goals... How many of u have actually watched this guy play. He is ordinary at best. Good movement yes, but ordinary speed and finishing abilities. Yes he will start and as such be a fantasy consideration early on, but you can bookmark me, he will struggle mightily and frustrate his FPL owners and fickle Liverpool supporters.

Mignolet looks a good signing and Toure, a player i've never liked, is looking ok as well. Alberto looks very good and i hope he gets enough playing time. For me Aspas is the worst of our signings thus far. Ibe looks the real deal, hoping he and Sterling can push each other the higher heights.

Ps this is just my opinion.

I agree, I watched Liverpool play Melbourne Victory and they looked slow and seemed to play without much drive. This is only game I've seen them play so don't shout me down..But yea, I'm not convinced by Aspas at all, needs to show some quality and form in the Premier League to be worth seriously considering, I'd much rather have Coutinho or Sturridge as Liverpool attacking cover.

in the big picture, they've done low-risk investment. I'm not telling you anything you don't know, but if you have to buy 4 maybe's to get 1 Coutinho, that sure beats feeling like Arsene Wenger waiting for the bus that never comes!
Aspas doesn't look very hardy to me, but his attitude looks great, and I'm optimistic for his prospects. Never heard of him until LFC bought him up.
I've heard/read very little about Alberto in preseason.

But yes, there seems to be a lot of coverage, seems to be twice/three times as much as Chelsea gets, and they have Mourinho back. Very interested to see how quickly he will dominate. I hope they play the Imperial March when he walks out the tunnel.

If I had to pick two teams to be dominant on defense this year it would be ManCity and Liverpool. I'm going to try to keep defenders and goalies from their team through the year regardless, but the double gameweek also dictates Chelsea players and they're expensive wherever you put them. Happens to be on defense for me.

Fair enough, we all play differently. I have been bitten to many times by having 'big team' defenders concede, winning 4-0 vs a lower team and then switch off, 4-1. Gutted.

My gk and defense 'plan' is always around-

          4.5/4.5

              On this at the moment

Think i will start (at the moment)-
              Botuc/ 4.0
              A Cole/ Collins/ Shaw/ Chester/ Parr
              Walcott/ Nolan/ Snodgrass/ Hazard/ Thomas
              RVP/ Soldado/ Lambert

              And slowly move to-
              Botuc/ Sunderland GK
              Mert/ Collins/ Shaw/ Chester/ Parr
              Walcott/ Nolan/ Snodgrass/ Hazard/Kim
              RVP/ Soldado/ Lambert

              Still in my mind-
-I have 2 west ham, happy for Collins to become a playing 4.5 Newcastle defender
              - No Man C Walcotts place could become Silva, City forward situation is a nightmare
              - Shaw could move to a diff 4.5, double on Southamton defence maybe too much.

I know with Baines on the team it might be a little costly for my defense budget, but still I just wanted to have a back line that will bring in a good 25 points in on average hopefully. And I need to somehow upgrade anelka, completely agree about the forwards, but still, Baines scored as many points or more points than a lot of the forwards out there, other than the obvious expensive ones.

    A: Benteke & Anelka
    B: Dzeko & Aspas

    Pretty stumped on this one,

    Cheers.

      B
Benteke has bad opening fixture and I'm not sold on Anelka. Dzeko is going to play some part and hopefully score. Aspas is also going to be in the mix.

    A.

Just for the fact that they'll share more playtime. B presents some doubts over the foreseeable future.

    Rvp

I'd just like to add that even if man united are terrible and don't blend under moyes, it still doesn't mean that Rvp won't do well. At arsenal he carried us and scored/assisted so many times. He's on penalties and we all know man united get a lot of them.

So if man ure do badly he can still do well

Good effort,i'd put toure instead of coleman though and lamps is not a guaranteed starter

Lamps will play some part of either one or both of those games. Fancy him for a goal or two. Pen or summat.

Im not doubling Migs and Toure but thanks mate.

Ill tweak a little. No Coutinho bothers me, but I'll up him with Sturridge 🙂

I actually think lampard is a good pick. he played vs madrid and he could play both games in gw1. He gives balance to chelsea's midfield

How the Community is rating Bony & Silva?

Don't know enough about Bony but I think that Silva, although a great player, may struggle fantasy wise due to assisting the assister in that City team so full of threats.

But hey, that's just me 🙂

Bony will be a beast. Silva same as what Matt said. Navas if you want a punt at City midfield.

After double get Cole to 6/5.5 and then Abog to Lambert

Ditch Agbonlahor and go another 6 mil striker as this has WC written all over it week 2 (unless that's your plan???)

I understand you going Agbonlahor for the DGW,
But I will rather go Jrod for the fixtures,
And use the money to upgrade Kim

Lukaku - a punt but what they heck, they fixtures look good and as he proved at WBA he can be effective off the bench which is a likely scenario in one of the game. Also, if he scores the casuals will be all over him GW2 and he did happen to score a hatrick v MANU last time out.

I cant bring myself to play Benteke as I will likely have a Chelsea defender in so I'd be betting against my own player (that make sense?).

I don't like the idea of benteke. Away to arsenal and a resolute mourinho chelsea defence.

He might have a sophomore slump, and be marked out of games, cos he villa's only threat.

9 mil for a Villa forward seems a bit rich regardless of who it is. Sturridge (if fit) much better value for 9 mil IMO
