Over the last few weeks, a combination of factors have elevated Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez into many pre-season Fantasy squads. The Saints’ kind opening run of fixtures has caught the eye, while Rodriguez’s more budget-friendly appeal over Rickie Lambert has also played a part in how we assess his potential across the Fantasy games. Having scored three times in the opening couple of summer friendlies, Rodriguez has been quick to hit form and as interest in the former Burnley man gathers, we use the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to analyse the impact of Mauricio Pochettino on both Rodriguez and Lambert over the previous season.

As mentioned previously, the KPI helps us track certain key statistics which are indicative of a player’s form over a certain Gameweek range or season. Having ran the rule over Robin Van Persie’s impact at United compared to his final year with Arsenal, we delve into last season’s data to look at the Saints duo’s performances from Gameweek 1-22 under Nigel Adkins compared to Gameweek 23-38, when Pochettino was installed as the new man in charge at St Mary’s. By also utilising the Comparison Tool across the two periods, there’s plenty for Fantasy managers to mull over.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    After Cardiff's owner screws around the club's tradition, now this: Hull city are to change their name to Hull City Tigers. And check out Allem Assam's logic:

    "Allam wants to market the club as Hull City Tigers locally and Hull Tigers to national and international audiences.

    "He told the Hull Daily Mail: "In the commercial world, the shorter the name, the better. The more it can spread quickly.

    "My dislike for the word 'City' is because it is common. I want the club to be special. It is about identity. 'City' is a lousy identity. Hull City Association Football Club is so long."

      He's had a few 'injuries' that kept him out of friendlies but reports indicate he has still turned up to whatever training has gone on.

      If a player doesn't train, they get fined, don't they? And Bale doesn't strike me as an overly petulant, disruptive sort.

          He's not top class but he's done reasonably when called on in the past (before he got injured), he's in the form of his life and the test is at Durham. I'd have liked to have seen Broad dropped personally but I know that would never realistically happen.

              Hehe, I like Broad but he's been a little off form. What I'd ideally have liked is to see us play 4 seamers and drop a batsman. I much prefer the 5 bowler attack.

                The problem with the five man attack is we have the best spinner in the world, tweak it from one end all day. The four pace men will only get 10 overs a day. Might as well have a batsman in this case.

                I would like to see them bleed the next generation of batmen in. Taylor, Stokes etc

      I imagine Aspas will take the Downing wing position. Front 6 like this with Suarez

      Gerrard / Lucas / Continho
      Aspas / Suarez / Sturridge

      With a lot of informality and swapping going on during the game.
      Without Suarez

      Gerrard / Lucas / (Henderson/Allen)
      Aspas / Sturridge / Continho

      So either way, Aspas features and is likely to be switching sides, dropping back and generally creating trouble.

    So if Bale stays, to pay for him, the options for me to easily raise the money are:

    A) Coutinho -> Snodgrass
    OR
    B) Lukaku -> Anelka

          I was thinking of stepping down and letting some new blood into the competition - regrettably I don't get the time to contribute much to the fun elements (pressers, match previews, etc.) like I did a couple of seasons ago. Kind of felt guilty about never managing to contribute in that way last year. I'll cheerfully sign up if there's room for a lazy deadweight 😉

    What are people's thoughts on Navas? Was considering a punt on him by removing Coutinho. Is this insanity?

    The Bale situation really changes everything. Are people comfortable getting him in or are injuries and transfer rumours still putting you off (assuming nothing changes until deadline)?
