Having announced a couple of new cup competitions last week, we thought we’d give you another heads-up as the weekend’s deadline edges closer. Not only do we have the ninth instalment of our open-to-all cup competition, as sponsored by Paddy Power, we also have the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup IV up and running over the season run-in:

If you’re familiar with our competitions you can get your entries in right now via the links below. If you’re new to all this, read on for an FAQ on the competitions.

Enter the Paddy Power IX Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup IV via this entry form.

Are there prizes?

As mentioned, Paddy are supplying the competition with some great prizes and, once again, we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down for the Fantasy Football Scout Cup IX is as follows:

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

In addition, the top scoring manager from each round will win a £25 free bet from Paddy Power on supply of their Paddy Power username.

For the Fantasy Football Scout Members Cup IV, the prizes are:

Winner – £200 Amazon voucher.
Runner-up – £100 Amazon voucher

How do the cup competitions work?

Our cup competitions are very similar to the Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that Gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the manager highest in the overall standings will progress.

When do they start?

The qualifying rounds for both cups will take place in Gameweek 27 but you can enter after the Gameweek is played out. All entries received before Monday February 24 will be entered into the qualifying rounds. In the Paddy Power XI cup competition we will have 1024 qualifiers for the first round – those 1016 (plus eight previous winners who will earn a bye, if entered) with the top scores in Gameweek 27 will progress to the first round proper to be played in Gameweek 28. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions. The same rules apply in the Members Cup, although we will restrict this to 512 teams in the first round.

How do I enter?

You can enter the Paddy Power IX Cup via the entry form here.

Members can also enter the Members Cup IV via this entry form.

In both cases you will be sent a confirmation email to verify your entry and you’ll be asked to confirm your FPL team id at the point of entry – please be sure to click the link to verify that your team is correct before confirming.

You can check that you are entered the Paddy Power IX Cup via this list and this list for the Members Cup.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying rounds of both cups will be published on or around Tuesday February 25 and then weekly from that point on.

What is the Gameweek Schedule?

These Cup competitions will be played out according to the following Gameweek schedule

Paddy Power Cup XI Round Dates

  • Qualifying – Gameweek 27
  • Round 1 – 1024 teams – Gameweek 28
  • Gameweek 29 Skipped Due to Potential Blanks

  • Final – 2 teams – Gameweek 37

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round of both cups will be published a day or two before each Gameweek deadline.

Do I have to enter if I’m previous winner?

Yes, because your FPL team ID will have changed, we will need to record you entry again. As a previous winner, you will be given a bye to the first round proper.

Do I need to be registered with Fantasy Football Scout?

We ask you to supply a FFS username so we can feature you, as a member of our community, in any articles associated with the tournament. Ideally, you will already have a username with us but this is not essential to enter (although it is for the Members Cup) – you must, however, supply a username for the purpose of the tournament so you can be identified in articles. You must not change this username throughout the course of the tournament, should you do so without permission, or should you enter multiple teams or if your FFS account comes under moderation for any reason, we reserve the right to remove you from a tournament.

There are bad red cards called against any team, and team playing this much CL, gets them to its favour sometimes. However,

Drogba, although he is one of my all time favourite players, completely deserved those 2 yellow cards.

Video here for those who don't remember:

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S90fTjLir2Q

Mind the quality, didn't find better.

            Del Horno, I can't remember.

Busquets playacted Thiago's red, and that's shameful. However, for the ref that was a very hard call. You can't really blame him for that, just blame Busquets. Just a shame they couldn't ban Busquets afterwards. Would stop that ridiculous play acting.

It was a red, after a foul on Navas, RVPs red was the worst decision ever made, 09 was the worst refereeing performance ever, Terrys red was barely anything... they get A LOT in their favour.

I know what you meant. But you cannot have that 32 and play those 12 players. So, technically, your statement is all wrong. Your "to go" number is uninformative on the real questions: 1) with how many players that have played do you have that 32 point haul?; 2) how many of these you are going to keep?

To be accurate, you cannot field 3+9 because that makes 12 and in football, for your information, you can only line up GK + 10 field players which makes 11. So, you have 32 points with 8 to go.

Thank you, wasn't that hard, was it?

I'm leaning towards using it GW30 to stock up mainly on City players (probable Aguero, Silva and Yaya) on the basis that I'll be happy to have three City players through to the end of the season so no need to 'fix' afterwards. With the blanks it's going to be hard to get the doublers in without hits in time for the doubles.

That defeats the purpose of the transfer, which is to have a good captain in GW 29 and 31. I need all my transfers from here until GW 29 to get me additional players in GW 29.

Considering it...but would lose over 1m on value, not to mention a few weeks worth of sleep every time an opponent was captaining Suarez.

Then again, wba LIV (whm/MCI) AVL new HUL... vs BLANK mun car TOT whm MCI.

7 fixtures vs 5 over the next six weeks... There's a case to be made for it.

Team value is not really a big concern of mine at this point. I'm more than willing to buy Suarez back for 1m more if Van Persie going to get goals. I question whether Van Persie is going to do much better than Suarez even with 2 additional games though.

    A) Bruce > Olsson (prep for GW 28/29) or

Considering taking out Kolarov so that I can have someone who will actually play over GW28 and 29.

Is it sensible to double on Chelsea and do Kolarov -> Cahill?

Or anyone else got any other good ideas?

    My defence:
    Boruc Davis
    Kolarov Azpil Kosc Demel Mariappa

looking at the fixtures and after last weeks 6-7 non-players, with man citys 2 blanks in a row and evertons blank i may as well give up for the year. Frustrating as hell as i just climbed 100k places and was hoping to win my league.

Now I have zero chance and its all out of my hands, ...the rules need to change to reflect those taems badly damaged by the last minute game call offs. I had the best team in my league going into last week but got the worst possible score as my team was obliterated by the city and everton games being called off..

Crystal palace and United good options for gw 29, with dgw's to follow.

Think i'm set on Puncheon, Evans (if fit), Rooney.

Might even get Ward in for a hit, as only able to field 10 and it will be a net -2 (if there's no clean sheet).

So was going to do Pozuelo to Paulinho this week for Spurs cover. Now after tonight I am thinking it Dzeko to Adebayor.

Dzeko has the better fixture but its a huge rotation risk and his form isn't great. I am chasing an ML leader who has Ade and if Ade scores I'm screwed.

I'm not sure i'd want 11 starters gw29 anyway given the teams playing.

The less players you have gw29, the more dgw'ers you'll have later on and longer term you'll be fine.

It's more about having the right players.
