After three rounds of fixtures in just seven days, there has been a flurry of transfer activity as Fantasy managers look to freshen up their festive squads. We look back at the emerging template team following that trio of Gameweeks and also catch up on the impact on our community leagues. Once again, we showcase the latest Members tables and find out first-hand just how fast Raheem Sterling is.

The Community Articles

Jarvis was crowned Community Champion for Gameweek 14’s Scout Picks, and managed to beat one out of three of the Scouts. Gameweek 13’s champion Beavis was even more successful, becoming the first to beat all three of us.  Meanwhile, Kurren won the honour of representing the community for this weekend’s matches and will be hoping for similar success.

Of Arvination’s trio of attacking punts for Gameweek 14, Kevin Mirallas was his only successful pick. The Puntmaster failed to replicate his Gameweek 13 success – where he tipped Glen Johnson – none of his Gameweek 14 picks paid off, sadly. He’ll be needing a better performance from his Gameweeek 15 trio to ensure his magical soothsaying  reputation remains intact.

Finally, SC Not Pearls Before Swine drafted this excellent round up of the best four mid-price options in midfield.

Please remember to vote in our latest monthly top article competition. To vote for your favourite in November, leave the name of the community article in the replies to this hot topic. The winner of this illustrious honour also receives a £25 voucher.

The Hottest Topics

With so many Gameweeks in such a short space of time, the transfer market has kicked into overdrive and the template team going into Gameweek 13 is likely to be far different from the one to emerge from this weekend’s matches. Earlier in the week, Rodellegabomb was on hand to analyse the latest emerging template among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers.

Among departing players from the top 10,000 template this week is Diego Costa. His Gameweek 14 suspension persuaded more than a fifth of this elite group to part company with the Chelsea striker. Grannville, though, was left perplexed as to why more haven’t followed them due to Costa’s poor recent form and lack of bonus point potential.

One player that is refusing to budge from the template is Sergio Aguero, who was owned by more than eight out of ten top 10,000 players going into Gameweek 14 and has an overall ownership of more than a third. Shortly after his 16-point haul against Sunderland on Wednesday, we asked whether he is currently essential. Surprisingly, there are still some in the community who believe he isn’t.

A popular strategy is to have a cheap fifth midfielder, who can come in when needed but spends most of the time benched. George Boyd’s midweek goal served a timely reminder of his suitability for this role, but Dino reckons that, given forthcoming festive rotation, a more expensive and better scoring fifth midfielder is a wiser move.

Former template favourite Raheem Sterling is gradually coming back into form, with an assist during the week in Liverpool’s win at Leicester. Scorcher Prime is among those who knows him best, having played against him back in their school days. “He would just always go around me or backpass it for an open goal,” he revealed in the ensuing name dropping discussion.

Finally, Badgevilla sparked one of the week’s longest discussions when he asked fellow FFScout Members to rate their top three reasons for signing up to the extra statistics and tools that Membership offers. Speaking of which…

The Members Tables

Among the key Members tables to catch the eye this week were Jonesb1987’s two-team based collection of statistics looking at the best attacks and best defences on offer this season.

McNulty has also been busy table constructing with a look at the most attacking defenders, midfielders and forwards. These have a global time filter so feel free to tinker to get a season overview and also more recent form.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Zep popped by with an update to his Dead Team Challenge, where community members a pick team in Gameweek 1 and leave it untouched for the season. Ahead of Gameweek 14’s matches The Casual was good to his name, topping the league with 739 points and a rank of around 11,000.

Tinkerman just can’t be shifted at the summit of the FFScout moderators and contributors league. Athletico Timbo is the latest to step into his shadow in second place.

Rasping Drive also keeps a firm hold on the Puffinboy Memorial Cup, but has lost his lead in the FFS Old Farts Club to Dan Clark, as well as pole position in the FFS Dead Zone league to Paul Kitchener.

Yun for cleansheet but minimal attacking possibilities or Goalman with low cleansheat probability but with attacking threat.

I'd go Goalman just because i think both will concede.

    Hi Lads,

Im thinking of bringing in a decent mid price MF next gameweek.

Any other option other than Chadli, Downing and Siggy for 7.0 and less?

A couple of the hot topics highlighted in this article drive right to the heart of my thinking tonight. Do I bring Costa back in place of Bony or save the free transfer/spend it in defence? Although I already have Fab and Haz, adding Costa to go up against that weakened Toon backline is mighty tempting. But is Bony or another forward cheaper than Costa likely to give me just as good returns and cash to spare to upgrade to a Chelsea defender.

I guess it boils down to which will generate the better returns:
    A) Costa & Clyne or Hutton
    Or
    B) Azpi & Bony (or equivalent)

I think A might be the better gameweek choice, but B will probably match it over the next month or so. B would also clear the injured Duff from my team, giving me a full bench (except for Krul). Hmmm.

Expecting a good :" run" out of him , but easy to switch to Silva too, if needs be

Yeah, not worth bringing him in for a hit. I brought him in when I wild carded and he's returned 7, 10 & 2 in 3 matches. Very happy with his returns so far.

Why, I have Jedi and he is way more value than Siggy, whom I also own? Siggy is just bigged up to be a great FPL player when he is merely a good one.

Umm, Siggy is better value than Jedi (you can check on FPL) and is the 4th highest scoring mid in the game.

          There's no comparison

Umm, there is a valid comparison to be made.

Jedi is above Siggy when it comes to value(form). Siggy is above Jedi when it comes to value(season) but Jedi is only two spots lower. One is currently worth 6.9m and the other is worth 5.3m. It may change for sure over time, but right now Jedi is the better pick.

I think he's a poor pick as a 4th mid. He has nothing but set pieces in his locker and when those come in are unreliable as well as unpredictable. He does not pop up with runs to the edge of the box for shots on goal like the YYTs and Gerrards of this world. He is too one dimensional and has a very low ceiling. He is also a good bet at a YC in any game, as well as the rash RC as we have seen him do this season as he tends to lose his head in games if decisions don't go his way with the referee.

Ohh, and he also has penalties. Doesn't need to do anything and can still score 7. I'm just saying he is very solid when in form, which appears to be the case right now. His price can let you really invest in defense which is critical over Christmas.

I don't think so. If you've hung on to for so long that means you must have a decent enough cover option. He should get minutes off the bench this weekend and start the following game. I would probably hold. In fact, I am looking strongly at bringing him in after the weekend.

    Interesting phenomenon:
Thinking about Rodallegabomb's post about the emerging 10k template, my team had 9/11 of the most popular starters for gw14, and by far the most popular captain choice:
    Foster
    Baines Chambers NTaylor
    Downing Fabregas Hazard Sanchez
    Berahino Bony Aguero(c)

Only Downing & Berahino differed from the most popular starters.

But, if my team is so quintessentially template, why was my rank almost halved in gw14 (4.8k to 2.5k), with a score of 82? They say that you can't improve your rank by following the herd, but that is plainly untrue.

    There are a few factors.
    - As popular as Aguero was for the armband, that was still only 50% of top 10k teams.
    - I did not take any hits.
    - many template players did well.

What I can conclude is that "the herd" is not as uniform as we often think. Deviations from the template are more likely to be punished than rewarded. The best captain choice is the most popular one. Most of my speculative captain choices have turned out badly (like ADM in gw13), so I'm likely to stick with the safe choice for a while.

The safest choices can be quite rewarding.

Good post. The one underlying factor that I see as you rightly pointed out is how many hits teams took over the last 2ish gameweeks to achieve that current template team. In general I have found if you can stay ahead of the curve and be forward thinking with your transfers as well as avoiding hits you will flourish and continue to rise in rank no matter how template-seeming your team is.

Good post this. Shame you landed near the bottom of the page. The thing with the template players that were listed most were in the range of 25-50%. That means plenty don't own them and plenty won't have all those popular picks in the same team. One advantage to having a good team value is that you can have more elite players in your team. If I bring back Costa I will have five £9m+ players and Baines. Without careful budget management you may have one less from that group unless you're stripping your team to the bare bones elsewhere. That alone can be an advantage. Yes, that strategy might not always pay off, but elite players are priced as elite players for a reason.
