We delve into the Gameweek 3 data this evening in our first members article of the week. Up front, we assess Bournemouth, Chelsea and Liverpool’s lone forwards, whilst there’s plenty to analyse in the centre of the park, as we take a look at some standout statistics from Villa, Palace, United, West Ham and Norwich.

That was 2010/11, last 4 games have been:

            2011/12 - 0-0
            12/13 - 0-1
            13/14 - 0-1
            14/15 - 1-2

Good sign as a Mertesacker owner though!

First year as a member and loving these 'big numbers' articles in particular. Some of the observations however beg the question 'why are some players consistently hitting bigger numbers than last year'?

For example, take Naughton - vastly improved on last year. The reason is the addition of Ayew who notionally plays on the right but actually plays in the centre, allowing Naughton lots of space to attack down the right.

Swansea seemingly play with two main wide men (montero and Naughton) and get two men into the box (gomis and Ayew). In effect we have two great OOP options at Swansea this year

Good point. It's also worth considering stuff like this when players get injured. ie an ayew injury and dyer taking his place say, would greatly reduce the attacking threat of naughton

Also saw this with Alexis last year. People still falling over themselves to get him in but his price tag is a joke when arsenal have all players fit as points get shared around

I'm playing with these 3 ways to get Liverpool and Chelsea attacks.

A: Benteke + Pedro ... with 4.5m mid like Westwood
B: Pedro + Coutinho ... with Wilson as cheapie
    C: Coutinho + Costa ... with 4.5m mid

Which pair would you pick ?

Is anyone running a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3? I know the conventional wisdom seems to be to run a 3-4-3 but taking an early look at points scored, is that justified? Are defenders just scoring well due to an above average number of clean sheets through GW3 (19 ) or are the BPS changes having an impact too?

    Non-Aguero WC team:

    Butland - Mccarthy
    Azpi - Sagna - WBA (5m) - Francis - Gomez
    Sanchez - Yaya - Haz - Shaqiri - Sterling
    Benteke - Wilson - Ighalo

Thoughts? I know it's controversial to go without Kun, but I feel that midfield could potentially make up for it. Still tinkering 🙂

Sketchy imo. I would perhaps drop sterling for the likes of Mahrez for instance, or have you never had him in your team? BUT it's a good team, no doubt bout that 🙂

      1. Kurtinho
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

I'm just not fully sold on Mahrez. He's in my current WC squad purely for the price rises. Having no Kun really does wonders. It is a massive risk though.

    2. Shifty
      • 12 Years

I think Sterling will look very good on the pitch but in terms of FPL output, the points will continue to be hogged by Silva and Yaya in midfield.

Note also that Sterling has been first to go off recently, and I see this trend continuing as City look to add more steel towards the latter stages of matches.

      Need Kun and Kolarov imo.
But the team is not bad at a all. Pedro could be a better shout than Hazard atm. Shaqiri is a hit or miss. Strike force is a little too light for my liking. 7/10

      Trade azpi for kolo
Sagna for another nailed 5-5.5 range. He isn't nailed and zabeleta will return

Strong MF, but your attack is way to weak and it makes it really hard to get Kun or costa if they go off.

      i would also grab mahrez

Find away to get costa or aguero. That's just my opinion

Have a feeling this week's bandwagon trades could set up to be like the Rooney Ramsey > Tadic Aguero trade around GW6-8 of last season - won't pay off immediately but over the next 2-3 GWs could be huge.

Question is - which of the bandwagons? Yaya or Silva & Diouf or Wilson?

Problem I have with Diouf is his goals (or as far as i've seen anyway) have mostly been easy tap ins or off defensive errors - doesn't strike me as a striker who makes his own chances. Not convinced on the Stoke attack yet.

Not too sure about Wilson, but he's got a good goal pedigree at least.

I've gone for Wilson - but that's because it's all I can afford. Would probably prefer Diouf, to be honest. Wilson will get me a price boost, but is more difficult to replace if/when a transfer needs to be made, so I'm factoring this in too.

He's had a huge number of net transfers out but because of high ownership his % owenership decrease and net transfers out to ownership ratio aren't as high as they have been for other players that haven't decreased in price.

If I had to guess no price drop tonight.

Possibly, I wouldn't worry about it though his price will shoot back up when he gets his annual fill of goals and assists at home to Crystal Palace/Pardew!

I agree and you won't need the transfer to get him back plus the inevitable reshuffle because you have spent the cash.

Gave in and pushed the WC button last night. My best midfield performance so far has come from Hendo's 4 points last week. Westwood has outscored all of them (Fab, Ramsey, Theo then Payet) whilst sat on my bench! Can anyone 'beat' that?

No attacking midfield points so far!

But then I've only had 1 goal and 2 assists from my whole team over the 3 weeks so far.

67 points total, almost bang on 2 points a game from each player.

Pulled the trigger this week, have never done as badly as this in one GW, let alone 3 in a row. Definitely a week late on the wildcard, as price drops have already hit me hard.

You were very unlucky there mate, so many good players having blanks, and I'm guessing you benched Ward GW2! 🙂

              • 14 Years
              10 years, 3 months ago

Yup, Ward sat on my bench with half the score of the rest of my team combined. Scores 23, 23, 21. OR 2.5m -> 2.9m -> 3.1m.
There were less than 2.9m players in GW1!

Ah well, onwards and upwards. I underestimated Liverpool, United and City's defences so avoided them and picked many of the wrong attackers. I really thought Walcott would start. Fabregas managed to cover Hazard's points very well as i hoped he would.. Trouble is Hazard has also done sweet FA.

Mahrez is just like Ramsey and Kane in past seasons and yet I'm baffled he's not on 100% ownership

People holding out because they "missed the time to buy", he's still cheap and has 3 double figure hauls in a row

This isn't to say I don't like Mahrez but this is key for me. When Ramsey doesn't look great he still has Sanchez slotting him the lay-off or Giroud giving him the ocassional second ball, If Mahrez isn't running the show, his supporting cast is Albrighton and Ulloa, which is a lot less promising to say the least.

With his height and ability to hold of the defenders he his not a bad as striker. He wont score that many goals, but he will draw/hold the defenders and allow the likes of mata, deepay, rooney to score the goals. Basic idea is to create space for other goal scorers

    2. Larry Legend
      • 10 Years

I think he's deadly serious unfortunately. Most likely he plays behind Rooney, which despite his absence of pace, passing ability and general clumsiness, is his best position. Januzaj probably out.

Yer I dumped him for Lukaku this week. Don't think he's the greatest striker I've seen.

Not in Luk's class anyway and his celebrations are cringe worthy.

Wait till Gomis loses form and/or Rondon gains form. WBA are not prolific & Rondon may take time settling coming from a Russian league.
