Sunderland’s bid to beat the drop gains momentum thanks to their new playmaker. Liverpool look a different side as the treatment room starts to finally empty, whilst we ponder whether a temporary transfer out for Sergio Aguero could prove beneficial to our three-man frontlines.

The Player

If Sam Allardyce is to retain his proud record of having never tasted top-flight relegation, it’s fair to say that the performances of Sunderland new boy Wahbi Khazri are already looking crucial to his chances.

The Tunisian arrived from Bordeaux last month with five goals and seven assists in just 20 Ligue 1 appearances – only PSG’s Angel di Maria had teed up his team-mates more often in the French top division.

In his first start for the Wearsiders, Khazri earned both assists in a 2-2 comeback draw at Liverpool before maintaining momentum in Saturday lunchtime’s 2-1 home win over United. After firing a free-kick opener just two minutes into the match, Khazri’s dead-ball delivery again proved the undoing of United’s defence and led to the Black Cats’ vital second strike as they moved to just one point from safety.

Khazri tormented the Red Devils last weekend, producing five attempts on goal and creating as many chances as he wastes no time in bringing his Ligue 1 form to Wearside. At a price of 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), he’s racked up 20 points in his two appearances in Allardyce’s starting XI – serving a reminder that at this time of year, there’s value to be had near the basement as the battle to beat the drop intensifies.

They may be an unlikely pairing but, as already evidenced, Big Sam’s love of set-pieces and Khazri’s dead-ball ability looks the perfect combination.

Given that they’ve just taken four points off Liverpool and United, Sunderland seem full of confidence right now. With West Ham, Palace, Everton, Newcastle and West Brom in the next six Gameweeks, Khazri has the platform to wreak further havoc as his manager looks set to plot yet another great escape.

The Team

Despite turning in some stellar showings since the appointment of Jurgen Klopp back in October, Liverpool’s on-pitch performances have failed to match their remarkable consistency for picking up injuries.

Indeed, the former Dortmund manager has had to wait until the eighteenth league match of his tenure – away to Villa on Sunday – before he could unleash Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge in the same starting XI.

The 6-0 annihilation of Remi Garde’s charges showcased the capabilities of an injury-free Klopp side. Whilst Sturridge bagged a goal and Coutinho created three assists on his way to 15 points, though, Firmino’s single assist indicates that he may suffer from the tactical reshuffle – having been fielded as a “false nine”, the weekend switch to 4-2-3-1 may not be to his liking.

Sunday’s result also points to a better balance. Although they’d registered big away wins at Chelsea, City and Norwich, Liverpool had never managed to score more than one goal in the league without conceding under Klopp. With Sturridge playing on the shoulder and the two Brazilians prompting proceedings in support roles, the Reds finally racked up the points at both ends of the pitch.

Granted, Villa are anything but a litmus test for Liverpool’s Fantasy potential but Sunday’s showing will only breed confidence ahead of a run that hands them four home matches in six (MCI, cpl, CHE, sou, TOT, STO) once their blank Gameweek 27 has passed. Given they have already put four past City and scored three times at the Bridge, Liverpool will hold little fear heading into those encounters – all the more so if they can take advantage of the former’s leaky defence in the upcoming Capital One Cup final prior to the resumption of league duties.

The Talking Point

Having notched four times at home to Spurs in the corresponding fixture last season, Sergio Aguero was the standout armband candidate for many Fantasy managers heading into the weekend deadline.

This time around, though, the Argentine failed to register a single attempt on target as City suffered a damaging 2-1 defeat that may well have killed their title ambitions. Damningly, the Etihad outfit have earned just six points in 10 matches against the top eight sides so far, scoring 11 times and conceding 20.

With City now set for a blank Gameweek 27 due to their Capital One Cup final duties, many are considering their short-term options and the idea of a temporary move out for Aguero is starting to gather pace. As discussed in Jonty’s Hot Topic yesterday, there’s method to this train of thought. City then face a trip to Liverpool in Gameweek 28 and also entertain United in Gameweek 31.

Such a scenario would leave them with just two favourable fixtures – a home clash with Villa in Gameweek 29 and trip to Norwich the following weekend – in the next five rounds of matches. Furthermore, if they defeat Chelsea in the FA Cup this weekend, that clash with the Canaries will need to be postponed, too, lessening Aguero’s appeal further.

A transfer out for Aguero would, of course, be a temporary affair and merely a means of playing the fixtures at such a tricky time of year. Aside from his blank against Spurs, the Argentine has seemed close to his best again – banging in four goals in as many matches. Looking at the form forwards in FPL, though, both Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane have bettered Aguero in the last four Gameweeks, whilst Diego Costa has equalled his output.

Vardy, along with United pair Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial (who both outscored Aguero in the last three Gameweeks), now has three home fixtures in the next four. Kane, meanwhile, has two home fixtures and a trip to whipping boys Villa over that same period.

Providing your squad is in shape to deal with the upcoming blanks, saying cheerio to Sergio for the short-term and plotting a course to draft him back in may not be as crazy as it seems.

    Walters or Arnautovic?
Stoke with 2 great fixtures plus a guaranteed game in GW 30.

    Firmino out but for who?
Alli/ Eriksen are form players but tricky enough games and very likely not playing GW 30.

    Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, Firmino*, Stan
Aguero, Vardy, Kane my other attackers.

I am chasing.. I better add.
All my rivals have Alli too,

I did Moreno to Huth last night (I prefer Huth over Fuchs before you say it 🙂 )

Who would you start this coming GW:

    Huth (NOR)
    Nyom (BOU)
    Evans (CRY)
    Bellerin (mun)
    Rangel (tot)

Currently on the first 3 with the last 2 bench order.

Is Bertrand a good option if I can't afford VVD/Fonte

Pros: Plays 90 every week, doesn't seem to pick up many yellows

Cons: Doesn't appear to like BAPs.

Looking to do Ward -> Bertrand (probably not until after So'ton play Chelsea though).

Another con is that he'll get next to no attacking returns playing at LCB if Soton keep playing that system. So the only points you'll ever get from him is clean sheet points.

So I'd either go Targett and take the risk or just wait a week and make a downgrade in your team to afford VVD

Shameless repost. Things a bit slow on here. Point taken on Moreno, will look at replacements. I will also have to read the article on planning for blanks/dgws as need to incorporate some moves here.

Having an absolute nightmare. Have been forced into playing my wildcard with too many non-playing players next gwk, suspensions and injuries.

Would really appreciate thoughts on my first draft (of many):

    DDG (Hennessy)

    Daniels Walker Huth Koscielny(Moreno)

    Payet Mahrez Sanchez Alli Gosling

    Vardy (c) (Aguero, Lukaku).

      I'd rather Forster than DDG.

Not sure I'd be keeping Lukaku on a WC, but tough to see who's a better option. Kane/Costa perhaps?

I have Sanchez, but my itchy trigger finger is already tempted to get Ozil back as he has looked the more likely to score points over the last 3 (which has also translated into points the last 2).

Good points. In same boat re Sanchez. Chasing and guy ahead has Ozil so gona stick for next couple of gwks to monitor. In two minds though.

Any views on Moreno Walker > Azpi Targett?

Walker -> Azpi looks ok as Chelsea are looking fairly solid recently. Only issue there is lack of a Spurs defender, although their fixtures aren't brilliant, so it probably makes sense.

I'm not too sure about Targett though as he's not nailed on, but if you get Forster and have a decent sub on the bench, I guess you're covered.

Just had a good look at that Messi penalty that Suarez finished off - I'm still not convinced that the penalty should have stood. Two points - did the ball actually get passed forward and did Suarez encroach just before the kick was taken - Anyone else agree ?

He may well have encroached. I liked the ploy though.

If they do it again sometime soon then no goalkeeper will have any idea what to expect at a penalty for Barca. Advantage Barca.

It's worth pointing out that it's been done many times before with a high chance of lol's....but Barca being Barca it was done well.

He encroached as he stepped into the half circle. The purpose of this half circle is precisely to mark where players can be when the penalty is taken. So it should not have stood. But still an epic moment.

Trying to plan a bit ahead with this lot (lineup for gw27):

    Butland
    Cameron Daniels Dawson Dier
    Özil Mahrez Payet Alli
    Kane Vardy
    (Elliot Firmino Koscielny Aguero)

Will Cameron be back for gw27?

With the possible blanks in gw30, should I do something like Koscielny to Targett? Or another Soton Def?

    Any help appreciated!

Not sure GJ adds much to their defence tbh. TBH though apart from maybe their next 2 games which they may get 1 CS I dont see many in their remaining games anyway.

He's ok. Last season Huth and Morgan were sent up for every set piece from about now onwards to try and rwacue their season. They both had numbers comparable to Dann and Toby for threat right at the top of the pile, and it was just a guess which one of them would be the better pick. I wouldn't expect the same to happen this season.

    3. Worzel Gummidge
      10 years, 5 months ago

Huth is a better option than Morgan but if you need the money go for Simpson who is even cheaper. I went for Huth over Fuchs as I prefer him and he is cheaper.

Is there not another option though to guarantee about 35-40 quid. Bet on PSG pre-match and lay it off.

Then use the in-play bet to do same but at something with higher odds.

You could back over 0.5 goals or under 2.5 first half goals and then put the in play bet on any market and then take the risk of backing something at long odds. Less chance of winning big but can at least win big rather than come out with £10-25 profit

Yes, but these are the most common options.

These are the easiest way to gurantee profit.

        PSG to win Pre game
        Chelsea/Draw Inplay

        PSG win £32.50 profit
        Chelsea/Draw £15 profit

You're getting a poor return there due to the short odds on Chelsea/draw, should be able to guarantee around £30 really

Forget the guaranteed profit and go for gold.

Back a non-runner as fgs to activate the free bet offer.

Then go for gold in-play maybe an anytime GS punt.

They could in theory ban you for consistent abuse of it.

But the bet is fine in practice. If you back a fgs and your player isn't on the pitch its void. Thems the rules.

            • 10 Years
            10 years, 5 months ago

So you mean that they would refund you the original £50 as your player didn't play, and then give you the free £50 bet too as your first bet didn't win?

There must be something in the terms that says you can't do that

          2. Cradders
            • 11 Years
            10 years, 5 months ago

Well I'm sure they'd rather you did this than do the guaranteed profit method. Most people will just break even on this because (dependent on risk) the in play bet will lose

            1. Japan Boy
              • 10 Years
              10 years, 5 months ago

No you would have a free £50 bet with this bet, without losing 50 pounds first

                • 12 Years
                10 years, 5 months ago

I have been on Chat a couple years ago and they have said that you can guarantee profit.

However if you just use your account to do these free bets they deactivate the offers on your account. So basically as long as you have a bet here and there you are fine.

              2. Hibbo
                • 13 Years
                10 years, 5 months ago

Exactly. It's no lose, so guaranteed break even.

But what's the likely win onthe other options 15 odd quid

Find a player ruled out or very unlikely to play who's still on the listings.

Yeah but what I'm saying is if your in play bet loses then you break even. Which is what 365 would prefer than for you to use the method that guarantees profit. Because then 365 have a chance of not losing anything, obviously they're guaranteed to lose with the methods at the top of this post

    4. ᶠᶦˡᵗʰʸLucre $$$
      • 11 Years

So basically, you bet on something likely to happen pre-match, and then cover all the other options with your in-play bet?

        • Has Moderation Rights
        • 16 Years

        That's one way.

Another tactic is to lay off elsewhere to break even or make a tiny loss in order to get the 50 in-play to go on something with bigger odds such as FGS or AGS.

Annoyed that I essentially only have 2 Leicester as Schmeichel is my keeper and if I play him I lose out on any potential Butland points and vice versa

Is GW 30 looking like a DGW or will teams have a blank GW due to Cup commitments? Thanks

yup i have to play 3-5-2 and i m chasing the game so think of sorting out defence and ship out muniesa or aguero (all chips and wc in bag)

not yet but saving planning for.
      I think i'll get my 11.
Any case, all will depend on the cup games, in case several teams are out, then it should be easy.

Until after the weekend nothing is definite, plus Chelsea's game tonight could produce injuries.
