We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

          I meant that that long injury ruined his form for the season. He didn't play a single full match, and in 5 of his 14 matches he played less than 60 minutes. I'd want to see him having a full season, in full fitness.

      Not surprised, Snoddy very unappealing to me. Gradel looks to have the quality to be a real problem in the premier league. Really like his style. If only the fixtures were a bit kinder....still @5.5m, can't really go wrong.

    Going to try something new this season, which looks the best value for money? (Wildcard in GW4):

    A) Premium keeper, 2 premium defs, 3 rotating £4.5m = £34m

    Courtois + Jaku, Shaw, Baines, MID/WBA/STO

    B) £8.5m keeper combo, 3 premium def, 1 £4.5m, 1 £4m bench fodder = £33.5m

    Valdes/Foster + Jaku, Chelsea, Shaw, Baines, Friend, Wilson

    Wondering whether an attacking Chelsea defender is worth the extra £0.5m over Courtois - whether Conte will hold a deep back line or allow his fullbacks to roam forward?
