Philippe Coutinho is a doubt for Liverpool’s clash with Spurs. Sunderland stopper Vito Mannone has been ruled out for at least three months, Ryan Bertrand faces a late assessment after returning to training, whilst Arsene Wenger has still to decide whether he will start Mesut Ozil at Watford.

Philippe Coutinho is rated a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Spurs. The midfielder has picked up a hamstring problem and was only able to take part in light training yesterday. Emre Can (ankle) and Divock Origi (cramp) are also both uncertain to feature. The pair picked up problems during the midweek cup win over Burton Albion and will be assessed, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

Vito Mannone has been ruled out for “a minimum of three months” with elbow ligament damage, David Moyes confirmed earlier today. John O’Shea remains out with a hip problem, though the Black Cats are hopeful that Fabio Borini will recover from a toe injury in time. Lamine Kone will be assessed later today.

Arsene Wenger will make a late decision on whether to start Mesut Ozil in Arsenal’s clash with Watford. The Gunners boss also admitted that Olivier Giroud is “a fraction behind physically”.

Joe Ledley and Wayne Hennessey are “struggling” to be passed fit for Palace’s clash with Bournemouth. Alan Pardew has also conceded that Christian Benteke is likely to start on the bench due to a lack of match fitness, with Connor Wickham leading the line.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has conceded “it’s nearly impossible” that he will field all three new signings, Daryl Janmaat, Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra from the start against Arsenal. Isaac Success is available for selection after overcoming a hamstring complaint.

Mark Noble is expected to recover from a knock in time for West Ham’s trip to Man City. Slaven Bilic says “maybe one” of Dimitri Payet or Manuel Lanzini will be ready for the Etihad. Havard Nordtveit is almost certain to miss out with a foot problem.

Nampalys Mendy (ankle) and Jeffrey Schlupp (muscle) are both unavailable for the visit of Swansea. Claudio Ranieri remains optimistic that both could return immediately after the international break.

James McCarthy, Darron Gibson and Tom Cleverley are all expected to recover from minor knocks in time for Everton’s home clash with Stoke. Seamus Coleman has stepped up his recovery from an ankle issue but remains on the sidelines.

Swansea’s club-record Borja Baston remains unavailable for the weekend trip to Leicester due to a thigh problem. Neil Taylor will feature for the Under 23s this evening and will also miss out against the Foxes as he builds up his match fitness.

Ryan Bertrand is back in full training and will be assessed ahead of Southampton’s clash with Sunderland. Jeremy Pied (knee) is ruled out, though Oriol Romeu has recovered from the knock that forced him off against Man United on Friday night.

Hugo Lloris is still sidelined with a hamstring injury for Spurs’ clash with Liverpool, though Kevin Wimmer has recovered from a similar complaint. Mousa Dembele serves the fifth of a sixth-match suspension.

Jack Butland and Glen Johnson remain sidelined for Stoke’s trip to Everton, though Mark Hughes refuses to rule out Xherdan Shaqiri, who has yet to train this week due to a calf complaint.

No info about him here on ffs, and at 6mil he seems a bit pricey to be so under the radar so to speak?

    Fellow GW4 WC'ers.

Anyone else fancying a Janmaat punt? Fixtures get very nice:

    whu/MUN/bur/BOU/mid/swa/HUL

This is a guy who got 3 goals, 12 assists in two seasons with Newcastle. He looks set to start as a RWB at Watford which will allow him to fully utilize his attacking potential. Mazzarri seems to have a focus on defence so decent CS potential aswell.

            I read your bragging posts.

Who could miss them? Lol. 😉

I also read your reasons based on a tactic Miss Ruth came up with that made little sense and I can almost guarantee she didn't follow herself, lol.

Yes it gave you a great start which was expected considering most in their right mind wouldn't have used it when you did.

Unfortunately for you that nice start was a false dawn as it's true worth will only be known once everyone else has also used theirs.

Considering this will most likely be during a double gw, and hence double points for up to 15 players, I think you'll look back at early tactic as an ultimate fail. 😉

But hey, each to their own as they say. 😉

Lol you clearly haven't understood it then. The whole argument is that chasing the double bench boost is not worth it due to compromises made in order to get 15 DGW'ers.

                • 11 Years
                9 years, 6 months ago

I understood it completely and completely disagreed with it, lol.

You can have your opinion and I can have mine. Just because you don't like my opinion doesn't mean I somehow didn't understand the tactic or what is in my opinion flawed logic.

The compromises you speak of only exist if poor planning is an issue before and after the chip is being used.

I find it odd that you claim to have maximized your use of the chip through good planning, yet choose to ignore that the same maximization can't be achieved through good planning if the chip is used in a double gw?

There's no logic in that thought process, but if that's what you need to tell yourself in order to justify your actions then more power to you. 😉

All I know is last season I planned the use of the chip in a double gw and my team didn't suffer as a result at all. I had 14 doublers and scored approximately 186pts from memory, and it only cost me a -4pt hit the following gw to have a strong team for the next gw.

This is why I'll stick to that kind of plan and think the logic you based your decision on is flawed. 🙂

Nothing wrong you having an opinion mate. But your previous post was very smug about getting double points for 15 players which suggested you hadn't understood the opposing argument, even if you actually had.

In response to this comment, a lot if it is complete rubbish imo.

                  >The compromises you speak of only exist if poor planning is an issue before and after the chip is being used.

Incorrect. The major compromise to the DGW BB is the fact that you have to play the second WC the week before. Compromises will be made regardless of planning. You will likely be selling players you would have kept because you need to get 15 DGW'ers in preparation for the DGW BB. So the week before the DGW your team is at a disadvantage.

The other disadvantage is the likely hits required to re balance your side after the DGW. Again, good planning won't necessarily be a great help here. The more DGW'ers you get, the more blanks they will have. So there is likely hits there and also possibly to restructure your side if your bench is too expensive due to the BB. I remember most posters on here were actually taking a hit the week of the DGW BB - a week after playing WC last season (myself included)

                  - Another point I'd like to make is that it's almost impossible to get 15 players players twice in a DGW. Near the end of the season, rotation, injuries and even suspensions start catching up to players.

                  >I had 14 doublers and scored approximately 186pts from memory, and it only cost me a -4pt hit the following gw to have a strong team for the next gw.

Your total score is pretty irrelevant. That was a great scoring week for almost everyone. What matters is how much you gained from playing BB. I'll play my second WC in the actual week of th DGW and hopefully have 11 players playing twice (more likely than getting 15 playing twice).

Really? Played 2700 mins last year. Gradually built up game time since pre-season. 14 mins, 45 mins and 74 mins v Yeovil midweek. Looks good for full 90's now!

Agreed. Nice to have them in the team though. Bojan & Cabaye are the only two that i wouldn't pick if they didn't have pens. Only 5.9 & 6.0 though so no can't ask for too much!

I was considering similar tactics- have Townsend and Barkley to your bojan Cabaye. If they do ok - need to monitor, then il swap to free up funds. Siggy after his terrible run will be worth a shout too

Now is not the time to get rid of him.

Be patient, it's only 2 gws and he's know to take a couple games to get going.

I'm surprised that Ibra isn't the top of the captain poll. Surely if he's as good an option as you all think he is then you should be captaining him against Hull?

        He'll be my captain.

He's already bullied some solid CB's in this league and comes up against a depleted Hull defence that has been lucky rather than solid so far.

Ibra's also had another weeks training with the new squad and new signings so the chances are likely to increase on what he's already received.

Could be his first premier League hat-trick coming up. 😉
