Suspensions and late transfer window deals left many of our community’s best-laid plans in tatters.

Our hot topic posters sift through the cinders of a fiery transfer deadline day and the knock-on effect on wildcards wielded over the international break.

Meanwhile, our community articles look back at a disastrous set of predictions for the Scouts last weekend. Our Members tables focus on attacking defenders and midfield maestros and we also take a look at those best placed to cope with evolving team sheets at the top of our community competitions.

The Community Articles

Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s lack of goals last weekend meant our Scout predictions were less than successful during Gameweek 3, according to Andy85wsm’s latest look at our crystal ball gazing skills.

One of our Spot the Differentials of the near future is likely to be Stoke’s new loan signing Wilfried Bony, who has joined from Manchester City. Zlatan Time, is among our community writers who thinks Stoke boss Mark Hughes has done very well to nab the former Swansea star.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Transfer deadline day proved an eventful one for the community, with rotation and relegation looming large over some teams. Our hot topic the day after the deadline closed looked at the impact of the new arrivals and departures on our plans.

The search for cheap goalkeepers was among the key issues, with Hull’s successful recruitment of David Marshall seemingly sounding the death knell for Eldin Jakupovic’s time as a budget option between the sticks.

Meanwhile, as King Nidge points out, Sunderland’s failure to transfer in Boavista shot stopper Mika Domingues means that our hopes hang on Jordan Pickford in the sub-4.5 keeper bracket. It is worth noting that the Wearsiders are looking for special dispensation to sign another stopper, whilst Pickford withdrew from England Under 21 duties with a thigh problem in midweek.

Everton had mixed fortunes in the transfer window, missing out to Spurs for the signature of Moussa Sissoko, but securing West Ham forward Enner Valencia on loan. Tim Howard’s Beard was on hand to assess the Toffees’ prospects post transfer window.

He also took a look at how Chelsea may line up, following the London side’s recruitment of their former defender David Luiz from Paris Saint Germain, as well as left back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina. Staying with Chelsea, RoysCallerAnne pondered why it is that the Fantasy Premier League bonus point system has such a dislike of their striker Diego Costa.

Another intriguing transfer this week was Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony to Stoke on loan. Andy85wsm takes a look at his chances of success in comparison with another similarly priced striker, Christian Benteke, who swapped Liverpool for Crystal Palace this summer.

Meanwhile, In Like Flynn is less than impressed with some of the high prices clubs are paying for average squad players who may struggle to even secure a regular first XI spot.

Sergio Aguero’s three-match ban, handed out this week after his altercation with Winston Reid last weekend, has also altered many best laid plans. We asked who is wildcarding this week to cope with his loss, while Triggerlips looked at the best time to bring the Argentine striker back in.

Among key targets for wildcarders are West Ham players, who are embarking on a favourable run as Jay’s analysis showed.

Arsenal players are also high on many of the community’s watchlists. But, asked S Kuqi, which of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil represents the best use of our money? For Carpe Diem, Sanchez looks a great option, particularly as the Chilean seems to be unaffected by fatigue when returning from international duty.

With considerable transfer activity anticipated as the international break marches on, Sinik sparked a discussion on the thresholds for price changes. Among those to see their price rocket is Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue. FPLVirgin popped by today to ask whether the budget pick has earned a starting XI berth after his two goals so far this term.

Finally, Diva urged community members to look beyond overall rank history when receiving advice.

The Members Tables

Manchester City’s midfield talent come under scrutiny in Ziro’s latest table. He also spent this week looking over Liverpool’s attacking options. Meanwhile attacking defenders were the subject of Andy85wsm’s most recent table, as well this statistical construction by Flashmule.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing the safety score was 34, which saw 157 managers depart and 2,900 remain.

Cak Juris is the new leader of Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. This is his fifth season and he’s never finished outside the top 11,000.

The Irish Contingent competition, which is organised by HVT, is led by Godot, closely followed in second place by RoysCallerAnne.

Facer retains top spot in the FFS Moderator and Contributors league going into Gameweek 4, closely followed by Evs.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

alright, I just need 2-3 of these players to rise one more time:

    Costa
    Negredo
    Sterling
    Holgate

or I'll have to downgrade PvA to a 4.5m

Ranieri on the Leicester penalty situation:

"I am very disappointed because he (Mahrez) is a very good lad. They are both our penalty scorer, him and Vards, and he wanted to shoot. It is okay with me.

"Now I speak with both the lads and then if Riyad feels be doesn't shoot then Jamie."

What do we make of this?

Carrying on Zasa's question from the previous page.....

Keane was better than all of Scholes, Giggs and Beckham. Not as talented, sure, but had more impact on the teams he played in than the rest of them did. At his peak he was more important to United than any of the others were when they were at their peak.

    1. Davido989
      • 15 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

Everyone has a different definition of best. I think Scholes was the most gifted but if I had to pick a player to sign in any era for any team, it would be Roy Keane without doubt.

Take Keane out of that side and they don't win as many titles in my opinion. Can't say the same for the rest, as good as they were. Keane was a natural leader. A brutal force.

What a player. Just wow. He was the reason they won all those titles. Top lad as well.

From a Liverpool fan ; this is a message to all United fans ; you'll never (hopefully, lol) have another player like Paul Scholes.

He had it all. Better than Gerrard imo.

Pirlo the best deep lying playmaker of all time and there is no competition. Scholes comes next and then the rest. His ability, the trophies he won, shining even till the very late days of his career. Scholes couldn't maintain his level beyond the early 30s. Pirlo was 37 and still majestic.

To be fair we were under the cosh for long periods of that game despite Butt and Becks performing admirably in the centre of the park.. would have to think it would have been a routine victory had we had Keane and Scholes started that game

In terms of footballing ability Scholes was on another level to Keane i agree and there is no shame in that because pretty much everyone beside Xavi Pirlo Iniesta was also

I love Scholes . He is my all time favourite united player but he is not a natural leader . Keanebon the other hand is clearly a leader figure something which great teams need and don't find often .

Had a season ticket at United from 1997-2005 and Scholes was the best player I ever saw.

Giggs had a great career in terms of longevity but he wasn't world class. He would drift in and out and rarely took games by the scruff of the neck. Brilliant on his day but not many United fans who watched all the games in that era would say he was more influential than Scholes.

Keane was a great captain and would drag the team through difficult spells through force of personality but technically not a patch on Scholes. As has been mentioned, everyone has a different definition of best.

Beckham had tremendous workrate, great freekicks and long passes, but didn't have the quickness of mind or vision of Scholes that you need to boss central midfield.

For pure footballing ability, technique, influence, goalscoring, passing ability, vision and all round class, Scholes was on another planet. Best English midfielder of his generation by far.

Excellent post mate but have to be honest you are way off the mark to dismiss Giggs as a world class player imo.. is not unusual for players to drift in and out of games particularly wide men.. but no one could live with him in full flow and how he reinvented himself as a central midfielder in his latter years when he lost that lightning pace can not be ignored... a true great

I know he takes up a lot of the budget but there's a real lack of options up front.

I've already got Ibra and Benteke but don't fancy Costa or Lukaku (which seem to be the popular Kun replacements).

Thinking of doing Redmond ➡ Sanchez & Aguero ➡ 8.4 or less for a hit.

The first game back is Swansea away. I want Aguero for that.

Using wildcard so selling but making a plan to get him back in week 6.

    WC'ers, who's your punt?

I'm thinking Masuaku & Zaza. Hoping with their fixtures and maybe a fit and firing Payet, the Hammers can get their season going!

If there has ever been a recents season where we don't need Kun, this is the one. So many other captions in Sanchez, Hazard, Ibrahimovic, Payet, Kane (when on form).

I'm thinking on my WC, I don't exactly need a Kun plan. GW5 I plan to save FT anyway. I think I will go with Mane on my WC who has (HUL) GW6 and could be just as good a captain as Kun(swa). Kun's fixtures after that are quite average for a few weeks so between Sanchez, Hazard, Ibra and Mane I think I can get some great captains anyway.

2FT's can get me to Kun easily anyway if it becomes necessary which I plan to have in my back pocket anyway after saving GW5.

Yeah here's what I'm looking at currently

        Heaton
        Valencia PVA Masuaku
        Sanchez Hazard Mane Antonio
        Ibrahimovic Bony Defoe

        Robinson Capoue Evans Amat 0.1m

Cool, yeah i like it, can't prod many holes in that at all. I asked because i'm thinking around the same plan.
i may be going without zlatan or aguero at some point.
is Robinson preferred over Pope as Burnleys back up keeper? as i was also thinking of a burnley double up in net.

Yeah what I really like is it's a balanced squad that still has plenty of caption options. All my front 7 above 7.0m+

I read a community article last night about the Heaton-Robinson combo that suggested Robinson was second choice. It looks like the article has been taken down now though 😕

yeah that's mostly what i had noticed, how flexible it is.
Ahh ok no probs, double burnley isstill a good case to be made.
Would you agree that it is definitely worth going without one of Aguero or Zlatan? i may be losing zlatan to Aguero come GW 6.

That's a very viable option and one I have been considering, something has to give. Only 3 of Kun/Ibra/Sanchez/Hazard can work imo.

exactly my thoughts, whenever i've asked it on here it seems to get dismissed very quickly, when it's clearly obvious that as the season progresses they'll only be so long before we can hold off big hitters in midfield.

Yeah, that's the sheep mentality at work again on here. Ibra is obviously a good option but he's definitely not a must have imo. If you have Kun and Hazard (long term) it's basically Sanchez + fwd + 0.5m vs Ibra + mid. Either could be better.

Yep, correct again, i think this season it's time to stop going with the herd, otherwiese how else are we to climb rankings in the biggest possible way. Either could always work out the same though your right.

I was before the Remy signing. Now I think I want to see them gel first. And I like Bony at Stoke just as much as I like Tekkers at Palace. Defoe is more predictable and gives me a nice place holder while I monitor Tekkers.

Aguero is the biggest banker when it comes to captaincy. You can fill your squad with Payet, Sanchez, Hazard etc but you'll be annoyed with your captain choice more often than not.

I like the team though, not sure about Masuaku

      1. Nabs Kebabs

At some point, I will likley have to get Kun but why would I need him back so early? Let's keep in mind the only that makes Kun worth the money is when you captain him.

        Captain options in my draft:
        GW6: Mane(HUL), Ibra(LEI) Defoe(CPL) vs Kun (swa)

        GW7: Ibra(STO), Sanchez(bur), Hazard(hul), Mane(swa) vs Kun(tot)

        GW8: Sanchez(SWA), Hazard(LEI), Bony(SUN) vs Kun (EVE)

        GW9: Sanchez(MID), Mane(WBA) vs Kun (SOT)

        GW10: Ibra(BUR), Sanchez(sun) vs Kun (wba)

I quite like my alternative captains, even more so than Kun in all of these weeks. And let's remember I can get Kun with 2 FT's whenever I like anyway

Iheanacho. In NFL drafts, they call it a handcuff. Basically, make sure that if anything happens to your main player, you have that player's most likely replacement.

Mane vs Payet.? Who do you prefer

    A) Mane - LEI che HUL swa MUN

    - Slightly difficult fixtures but have a knack of scoring in big games
    - Points could be shared between liverpool mids
    - Good preseason

    B) Payet- WAT wba SOT MID cpl
    - Excellent fixtures
    - Haven't played for a while. slightly strange since slav said he came back in good condition from euros in gw2
    - Likely to be central focal point of westham attack

I'm starting to prefer a cheaper striker to replace Aguero because of the flexibility it affords in bringing him back. Planning on taking a -4 to get Hazard and Benteke/Bony rather than Costa/Vardy. This leaves 2.9 ITB to shift out one of my 3 premium mids (Haz, Mahrez or Firm) and either of Rondon or Tekkers depending on who is performing to get Kun back in.

If I go with Costa or another premium striker and he performs, I have to get rid of him or Ibra to get Kun back.

    Thoughts?

1 FT and current front 8 is:

    Mahrez Tadic Firmino Redmond Capoue
    Kun Ibra Rondon
