We check up on the latest internationals over the last couple of days now, assessing the standout performers, main points of note and injury news.

Tomorrow, we’ll also roll out the first part of a team-by-team recap, checking the minutes played and miles travelled ahead of the weekend deadline.

As Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola prepare to go head-to-head for the first time in England, there were some encouraging displays from players on both sides of Manchester over Monday and Tuesday.

United’s Gameweek 3 match-winner Marcus Rashford underlined his prodigious talents by bagging a hat-trick in England U21s 6-1 thrashing of Norway last night.

It’s fair to say that David Silva is also a man in form ahead of the Manchester derby.

The playmaker scored twice in Spain’s 8-0 win over Liechtenstein on Monday evening, taking his tally to four goals and an assist in just two international appearances.

His City team-mate Nolito also caught the eye, supplying a trio of assists for Julen Lopetegui’s team, whilst Nicolas Otamendi bagged a late leveler for Argentina away to Venezuela.

Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku both threw their hats in the ring as replacements for the suspended Sergio Aguero by bagging a brace apiece.

Costa’s double in Spain’s thrashing of Liechtenstein shows just why over 168,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have drafted him in this week.

Lukaku scored twice in Belgium’s 3-0 win over Cyprus last night and, with a mere 7% ownership, is shaping up to be a real differential ahead of some superb fixtures for Everton.

Eden Hazard and Philippe Coutinho sits first and second in terms of most-owned midfielders and the duo kept their domestic form ticking over by supplying assists for Belgium and Brazil respectively.

Coutinho’s Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane rolled out a handy injury update yesterday, confirming he is available for selection after being withdrawn for Senegal earlier in the week:

“I’m fit. It’s true I got a little kick in the back of the knee, but it was nothing special – it happened in the first half and I played for the rest of the game. I’d spoke with the coach and because we have new players, he wanted to try [them] and change me, so the substitution was not due to injury.I spoke to the coach [Klopp] and told him everything was OK, I am 100 per cent fit and there was nothing specific [to report]. After the game, I went to the airport to take a flight. When I reached Paris the following morning, I had many messages on my phone with people and my family asking what happened because they saw in the press I had an injury. I said to them, ‘no, no, I am okay!’.”

Southampton’s Dusan Tadic finally translated his underlying numbers to returns – for Serbia. The playmaker, who has produced nine shots and 10 key passes without success over the first three Gameweeks, grabbed a goal and assist in his nation’s 2-2 draw with Republic of Ireland on Monday – a match that saw Seamus Coleman and John O’Shea return from injury ahead of the weekend.

Coleman’s availability now places major question marks over Mason Holgate’s pitch time for the Toffees, whilst it’s a similar situation over at Swansea. Neil Taylor played the full 90 minutes for Wales and, now match fit, could be set to oust Stephen Kingsley – who sits third for transfers in amongst defenders this season – to the bench against Chelsea on Sunday.

Palace’s Wayne Hennessey also recovered from injury to turn out for Chris Coleman’s side but faces a tough task to oust Steve Mandanda as the Eagles’ number one ahead of the trip to Middlesbrough.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche was handed a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s home match against Hull, with new signing Jeff Hendrick and frontman Sam Vokes both getting amongst the goals for Ireland and Wales respectively.

Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic bagged an assist in Austria’s 2-1 win over Georgia, whilst Potters’ new boy Joe Allen got on the scoresheet as Wales thrashed Moldova on Monday evening.

Mame Biram Diouf returned from international duties with a tight hamstring, which suggests that new loan signing Wilfried Bony could be in line make his debut at home to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Meanwhile, according to the Telegraph, the visitors are monitoring the fitness of Danny Rose after the left-back picked up a hamstring strain in England’s 1-0 win over Slovakia on Sunday evening.

    Sanchez, Hazard, Antonio, 7.6m
    Tekkers, Ibra, Lukaku

Who should I pick in the 7.6m slot?

A- Lamela - Decent fixtures but could be a rotation risk
B- Cazorla - On pens, Arse double up, could be rotated
C- Lallana - Nailed on - bad fixtures but good form

What are your thoughts on spending the extra 1.5 on Sanchez over Ozil?

With many teams including Ibra, Hazard and plans to draft in Kun back in once fit can we really justify the extra spend- not forgetting how Ozil outscored Sanchez overall last season.

I know that by having Sanchez there is an additional captaincy option...however do you really want that headache? What about the times when Sanchez goes missing?

At the moment I'm picking Ozil ahead of him- what are you guys doing and why?

    1. BbBb
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Sanchez for me, he could be on a hot streak and for me that's worth the risk. Will take him out when his form drops, possibly to bring Aguero back in.
There's no way I'd have all 4 of Sanchez, Hazard, Ibra and Kun so will have to decide come GW 6 which one to leave out

I have neither right now. I will likely get both for their good run in two weeks. I think Ozil is going to score more goals than usual this year, and probably prove better value. Sanchez was only good for about 5 weeks total last year and I don't believe we are in that purple patch now.

Why no love for Coutinho? He's a decent player with a sight for goal. Does get those double digit hauls. He is on some set pieces too. Firmino hasn't shown the form and Mane can't be afforded with 4 premiums.
Coutinho is a good shout with Kun, Ibra, Haz, Ozil come GW6?
    Appreciate your thoughts!

I agree. He's in 30% of teams but I assume dismissed on here as a casual choice. He's been forgotten since week one, but if he hits double digits again he'll be in every team here soon. I fancy him to do well this week, though I think Mane is worth the extra long term.

      1. Karan_G14

I just feel he's a good pick if you can't afford Mane and I totally agree if he gets going he is going to be in teams here too.

He is! He's actually their best player too, but Mane seems to be one running in behind defence at the end of passes and Firmino was playing up front

True but I feel the points are going to shared between these 3. And with no Europe Klopp is going to play his best player every week. Would like to have Mane in my team but I can't afford with the other 4 players I plan to have in my team.

      Yeah this needs some work.

Very heavy on Def. Check for some 4.5 def. Even 4 M def.
      Delafeu needs to go.
You have no players from most attacking teams in the League Man U and Man City. So start looking into bringing those.
And I would be worried without any Arsenal coverage over the next weeks.
Also I doubt you will be able to survive without Kun and Ibra in the longrun.

My recommendation would be to do 2 transfers this week use all the money itb, downgrade your defense and upgrade your mid (or bring in Ibra). Then use your wildcard on GWK6

Thanks for your fedback, if you had to make just 1 transfer to my squad as i dont really want to take a hit, which player would you transfer out and who would you bring in. I was thinking of taking out delofeu for antonio or cazorla

if I had to pick one transfer:
I like del to Antonio. But also
Del + money ITB > Ozil (if you have enough).
          Del > Barkley

But I really would not mind getting a -4 hit so early in the game 🙂

Thanks yeah i might go delofeu to antonio or barkley one of them 2. Im currently ranked 643,724 which isnt great so im worried if i take a hit and it doesnt pay off it could have a significant effect on my rank

its GWK 3 mate its a loooong game 🙂

Anyway your call. Your team is not that bad, just lacks some of those heavy hitters that could give you captaincy options (and if highly owned by the rest of the managers but not by you can leave you behind).

Also consider Dela + money itb > Sterling if you are not planning to wildcard any time soon. (would rather have him than Barkley).

I am set on this till any new tinkering happens in here

    Heaton
    Walker, Mcauley, Valencia
    Hazard (c), Antonio, Mane, Ozil
    Vardy, Defoe, Benteke
    Subs : Williams, Amat, Capoue

Does it look good or any changes needed.
Worried about no City cover for Derby and BOU game. Kun will come straight back in place of Vardy in Gw 6.

I would play Sterling over Capoue.

Sterling has ManU and then CL and rotation worries to follow. you are going
to want a Liverpool mid in a few weeks. put him in now for Sterling -- Firmino.
      and play him over Capoue.

      Hazard a better (c) probably . . . who knows

Triple WBA defense? that's too much. swap Galloway for another 4.5. he has looked great,
but Brunt will pressure his spot. -- or swap Foster for Heaton (after Foster rises in price).

Valencia should be played every week, period.

Costa is a yelllow card magnet and I predict Lukaku to kick on his season now with the easy fixtures ahead

Any thoughts on this horrible lot?

    Foster, Pickford
MCauley, Valencia, Baines, Van Arnholt, Amat
    Antonio, Barkley, Hazard, Sanchez, Capoue
    Lukaku, Benteke, Bony

Could work. You'd have to bank on Ibra keeping quiet ish.

Forgot to mention 3.2 in the bank - kukaku , other striker out, grey Aguero in.

Too risky upfront. Defoe > Bony

Like it, have a similar lineup planned or my WC, mainly based on the fact that EVE, ARS and WHU have great matches for the next 6 weeks, and my route to getting Aguero back involves dropping Sanchez (Also have Santi) plus one of Lukaku (if not firing) or more likely Benteke (Fixtures turning) for Kuhn and a 4.5-7.0 mid.

      De Gea (Jaku)
Valencia Baines McAuley Evans (Friend or other 4.5)
      Haz Caz Sanchez Barkley Antonio
      Lukaku Benteke Zaza

I know it's a little punty (Zaza/tekkers) and eggs in one basket, but those fixtures are sooooo nice!!

If you have a replacement for Aguero (on GWK6), becides Rooney + Sanchez + 5.5 def I could see B working.

if that makes sense. Its morning here and I had no coffee. And excuse the spelling mistakes 🙂

I meant B) if you are bringing in Aguero next to Rooney and Sanchez on gwk6.

    possible wildcard team:
    Foster / Heaton
    Amat / Chambers / Williams / Stones / Shaw
    Ozil / Barkley / Lamela / Hazard / Snodgrass
    Gray / Ibra / Lukaku

Its VERY Everton heavy but their fixtures are sweet...

deifinately and redmond getting on the score sheet, to be honest im just taking a risk, going against the majority by not having an arsenal attacking option. If it pays of ill move up the rankings if not ill plummet down

    Foster l Pickford
    Valencia l Baines l Masuaka l Pieters l Amat
    Hazard l Ozil l Sterling l Antonio l Capoue
    Ibra l Benteke l Bony
    GW6 Ibra+ Sterling > Kun + Firmino, I have 1.5 ITB
