As we approached the new season, hopes were high that Dimitri Payet could prove irresistible for our five-man midfields in 2016/17.

Restricted to just 26 minutes over the first three Gameweeks due to injury, Payet has been sold by a massive 589,000+ so far – only Eden Hazard and Riyad Mahrez have been subject to more sales in the centre of the park.

Since returning to the West Ham first XI in Gameweek 4, though, Payet has been quick to rediscover his Fantasy form.

Impressively, the Frenchman has played a part in all five of his side’s goals over that period. Payet provided two assists against both Watford and West Brom before serving up a stunning solo effort at home to Middlesbrough last time out.

With 30 points accrued in his four starts, then, this latest article for members casts an eye over Payet’s recent displays, assessing them against last season’s numbers before checking out the stats over the last four Gameweeks relative to other midfielders.

Been on holiday last two weeks.

2 questions: should i do Hazard and Zlatan to Sanchez and Rashford for free? And what is the status of Kun and Baines injuries?

    Cheers

      1) Hazard to Sanchez, yes. On form, played as CF and fixtures are good.

      2) Ibra to Rashford, I don't think so - he will get played on the wing and he is not as effective there.

      3) Kun, find out tonight if he plays for Argentina or not but he has declared himself fit.

      4) Baines, I don't know.

It looks attractive but I have reservations about Austin while Southampton are also playing EL.

I think I'd take Ibra to Wilson instead to be honest, maybe not quite so good a fixture as Southampton have this week but 4 of Bournemouth's next 5 are pretty tasty. Redmond to Sanchez is a rock-solid upgrade.

Is there a bit of "last year's man" about Payet (but at this year's price!)? Similar to Mahrez.

        • 11 Years

Not really. Effectively his season didn't start till GW4. Since then he has more points than any midfielder apart from Son. He has created way more chances than any other midfielder. And he is around 4th on goal attempts among all midfielders (from memory).

With West Ham.s next 4 games being pretty favourable I'd say he was today's man. I'm glad to have him in my team in any case.

Well, I could easily be wrong and I haven't exactly said he's a bad pick, just that he's not for me.

        The reasons are:

1..I doubt his gametime this coming weekend. He plays in Korea and Iran, won't be back till Thursday after a lot of travel and Spurs have Leverkusen (his old club) in a very important CL game the following Tuesday. Lose that and Spurs are struggling to qualify for the KO stages.

        2. Kane is reportedly near to a return and that means a reversion to Son playing wide. In addition, Pochettino is a known rotator and with CL games to navigate I'm not sure I trust any attacking player not to be benched - Alli has been so Son certainly can be. Lloris, Toby and Vertonghen are the only ones I doubt will be rested.

3..Spurs' fixtures don't look at all great to me, the next 2 are pretty good but the following 4 are a fair bit tougher. So I am much more inclined to wait for Spurs players till GW14 or GW16, after the CL is done and dusted and when the fixtures look much better.

Lloris is too much for a Spurs keeper. They are good but attacking threat is the only reason I would invest in Spurs defense. Not keeper.

Can't believe Germany can't find a proper No. 9! They could be unbeatable if they do.

Off the top of my head, the alternatives to Götze or Gómez (who can't buy a goal for VfL) are Timo Werner, Sandro Wagner, Davie Selke, Mark Uth, or Kevin Volland in a role which isn't at all his best.

Still, it's improved on last season. Only alternatives last year were Wagner & the always average P-M Lasogga.

            Didn't even think of him.

Not sure if he's being called up anymore? I'm watching the Germany game but haven't seen the bench. Wouldn't be convinced on him as a #9 anyway tbh. Wagner/Werner are better options now imo.

Good to see you around Gnu.

He's got a fantastic International record to be fair and must be only 30.
Where did he go after Arsenal, Turkey or back to Inter?

Just googled - Galatasary I see and still scoring although 31 appearances in over a season.

Yep, mental that he's 'only' 31 too. Seems like he's been around forever, like the Berezutski twins. 😛

Wouldn't have been surprised if he was on the bench, as Löw tends to stick with his faves, but it seems he recently retired from Internationals.

                    Ah ok.
As EH stated at the begining of this thread it is surprising Germany can't find an out & out striker to lead the line.

Aye. Particularly with the midfield talent of:

Kroos, Özil, Reus, Draxler, Khedira, Bellarabi, Weigl, Gündogan, Sané, Goretzka, Schürrle, Meyer, Kimmich, Dahoud, Rudy, Castro, Brandt, Henrichs, Amiri, Didavi, Geis, Arnold, Gnabry, Ochs, Gerhardt, Öztunali .......

      The ideal WC defence is......??

      BUR / SUN
      LIV / ARS / TOT / LEI / SWA

      Any thoughts??

Based on fixtures and budget i think one of LIV or LEI have to be downgraded, otherwise your attack is average:

        Marshall Pickford
        Mustafi Rose Morgan/Lovren Smith Amat

        Aguero Rashford Lukaku

Off on a cruise tomorrow. So I'll have little internet coverage for 2 weeks. So I need to make my transfer tomorrow for this week.

        1 FT 0 itb.

        Foster
        Valencia,Lovren,McAuley
        Sanchez,Walcott,Sterling,Firmino
        Aguero,Lukaku,Rashford

        Jakopovic,Capoue,Amat,Souare

Souare is 4.4m. I'm thinking of shipping him out so I have cover over the next week but there's no one at 4.4m worth getting. Any ideas?
