Our final article reviewing the updated Watchlist rankings, having assessed the changes among the goalkeepers, defenders and midfield over the past week, takes a look at the recent rise and falls up front.

For those new to the site, the Watchlist is designed to offer a view on our current mid-term player recommendations, based on the prospects spanning the next four-to-six Gameweeks.

You will find our current Watchlist standings in your right-hand menu on desktop and mobile.

The big news among the forwards sees the return of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane to the reckoning.

Given he’s owned by just 5.6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bosses, Kane has the potential to shake things up, having scored 25 and 21 goals in his previous two campaigns.

Spurs face four potentially profitable home fixtures (WHM, SWA, HUL, BUR) in the next six, though two tough away trips to Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford, along with the fact he may take some time to build up his match sharpness, leads to him achieve a mid-table position in our rankings for now.

There’s no change at the top, with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero announcing a return to form with three goals and an assist in his last two outings.

While Chelsea’s Diego Costa has been more consistent than the Argentine and is kinder on the budget, the fact that he remains on the Suspension Tightrope, plus he’s competing with the Eden Hazard option in our squads, limits his ability to topple Aguero.

We remain faithful to Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, with the blank against Chelsea almost understandable given the Blues’ current run of clean sheets.

However, the Belgian does face a tough run of fixtures from Gameweek 13 onwards that will test his consistency. While he’s demonstrated the ability to maintain a high scoring rate, he is perhaps the most vulnerable of the heavy-hitting forwards given the turn in Everton’s fixtures and the clamour to fund further investment in midfield.

Elsewhere, Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe and Southampton’s Charlie Austin remain our preferred mid-price choices.

Despite all of Sunderland’s travails, Defoe has continued to deliver and has been involved in 77% of the Black Cats’ goals.

While Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Sofiane Boufal may rival Austins’ role in Southampton’s front three, there’s little doubt that the former QPR man is the Saints’ most natural goalscorer.

His predatory instincts mean he’s unlikely to be usurped by Boufal’s eventual installation into the starting XI, and should he score against Liverpool tomorrow, he’d be in line for another climb in our rankings ahead of some improving fixtures.

Another mid-price option on the rise is West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon. He enjoys four strong fixtures (BUR, hul, WAT, SWA) in the next five to rival both Defoe and Austin, although the fact he has surrendered spot-kick duties to Nacer Chadlis does slightly limit his appeal. Rondon may well be on penalties on Monday night against Burnley should Chadli miss out through injury.

A new face towards the bottom of our standings is Burnley’s Sam Vokes, who looks a viable option for those Fantasy managers who are considering opting for a 3-5-2, but with an active option in attack.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is, almost inevitably, the major faller on the Watchlist. He slips to the lower reaches given he’s suspended for tomorrow’s clash against Arsenal.

With the dominance of the names at the top, and the current trend towards considering a two-man attack, the Swede seems unlikely to recover too much ground upon his return over the coming weeks.

Sorry guys, posted on the previous thread.

Final WC team. Has been a very challenging IB.

    Heaton (Pickford)
    Alonso, McAulay, Pieters (Friend, Kingsley)
    KDB, Hazard, Courtino, Firminho, Erikson
    Lukaku, Austin (Anichebe)

2.2M ITB for Arsenal transfer and Costa upgrade.

Please feel free to tear it apart.

    Cheers

      1. Deano
        • 13 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Yep, similar PPM with greater upside and less chance of Pep rotation.

Everyone banking on Kun being nailed every game needs to look at RVP/Frenchy/etc. strikers that due to unforeseen circumstances change their game time, form, team structure and role.

this one's nearly identical to my WC team currently.
      I have Ozil for Erikson
      Brunt for McAuley
      Francis for Friend

I think a super-heavy mid is a valid route so I approve this team 🙂

      Great team Deano.

KDB over Kun is great but only time will tell. I'd love to have the balls to do it.
Who comes in for Coutinho if he misses this week?

Anichebe with the easy fixture and form.

Cedric is also on the radar for Friend/Pieters once fixtures ease.

Interesting your thoughts for the arsenal transfer? Sanchez for Eriksen ideally but that doesn't really work out so Ozil?

      1. Deano
        • 13 Years

Sanchez for KDB, any mid for either Ozil or Wally and Kak for Costa are my contingency plans.

Erikson also has amazing fixtures during the next 12-15 GWs. Kane provides both a header option for his set pieces and fouls.

Hmm, trying to replace Ibra with one of Lukaku or Costa. I see all the talk about Lukaku's fixtures taking a turn but not a word on Costa's?

Everton have SWA, soton, MUN, wat, ARS
Chelsea have boro, SPURS, mc, WBA, sun

Fair enough, the 5th fixture is obviously far better for Costa than Kaku, but Boro are defensively better than Swansea (in their last 5 Swansea have conceded 11 goals compared to Boro's 3). Then we look at the next 2, Southampton and United vs Spurs and City, not sure I'd fancy Costa to outscore Lukaku there. Finally, Watford vs WBA, both capable of leaking goals really. I'll leave it a while yet before I decide, but prefer Lukaku as things stand...

Apologies for the length of the post, but the team needs serious surgery!

    Grant/Pickford
    Holebas/Stones/Lovren/Amat/Love
    Sanchez/Antonio/Firmino/Allen/Fletcher
    Costa/Aguero/Lukaku

1.2 in the bank. 1 free transfer.

I want Antonio out and Coutinho in, but Stones and Lovren are the only two defenders likely to start this weekend.

    My thoughts are:
    1) Conservative option: Love > Evans this week so I have three starting defenders.
    2) Radical option 1: Sanchez/Antonio > Hazard/Coutinho, play all out attack, rebuild the defence long term (-4)
    3) Radical option 2: Antonio/Lovren > Coutinho/Kaboul, play all out attack, rebuild the defence long term (-4)
    4) Unknown - alternatives to Coutinho?

Any ideas? I would be eternally grateful.

    Heaton Pickford
Walker McCauley Holebas (suspended) Smith (suspended) Amat
Sanchez Coutinho (doubt) Gundogan Allen Capoue
    Aguerro Costa (doubt) Lukaku

Atm, I have probably 2 playing defenders so should I do:
    A) Amat -> Alonso
    B) Capoue -> ? or and play AOA
    C) Keep Capoue and play AOA and save transfer
    D) ?

    Pickford
    Clyne Vertonghen Evans Pieters
    Firmino Gundogan Coutinho
    Kane(c)Lukaku Aguero

    Heaton Capoue Antonio Amat

0.4 itb just done Ibra > Kane

Should I take a hit anywhere or change my bench?

    Pickford
    Morgan - Williams - Lovren
    Sanchez - Firmino - Coutinho - Son
    Kun - Lukaku - Austin

    Boruc, Capoue, Francis, Amat
    2 FT, 0.1m ITB

    a) Coutinho/Firmino & Son --> Hazard & Allen 0.3m ITB
    b) Sanchez & Francis --> Hazard & McAuley 1.0m ITB
    c) Son & Williams --> Gündogan & Alonso 0.6m ITB
    d) something else?

I'd save a transfer, the team looks decent for this week

Maybe Son to Sigg, Chadli, Walcott (risk though with the child thing)

I did San to Hazard, that's also an option

Cheers, saving a transfer might actually be the best move.
