It’s time for our usual rummage around the Gameweek data this afternoon, in our first members’ article of the week.

We assess Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez’ home and away displays after both bagged a brace last time out, while a pair of Southampton assets also come under analysis. We also check in on Swansea’ City’s playmaker and a cut-price Liverpool alternative to Philippe Coutinho, with the Brazilian now set for over a month on the sidelines.

Upgrade Heaton to Karius by downgrading a 4.5 to Ake?? Worth it?? On a WC....So hits dont matter.....Already have Nyom so is Nyom+Ake too much uncerrtainty?

Ake has only been covering suspension (smith) and injury (daniels) so avoid.

    Holebas, Smith, Morgan, Pieters, Amat
    Hazard, Gundogan, Sanchez, Allen, Firmino

If I do Kun to Costa I will have more funds but I've just realised that I really don't need it. The only improvement I can do now is Holebas to Cedric than my headache who to choose for coming weeks is even bigger...

It is looking like Gareth Southgate is going to be appointed the England manager on a permanent basis

I wish Gareth well but i have reservations about his experience to take on the top job in English football having been a manager at only one club i.e. Middlesbrough who he played for then he got the under 21 job and now is the English senior team manager a meteoric rise by any standards

I really thought big Sam was a great pick for the job having been through the mill in the English football management world and for the first time ever i said to myself that England look like they could do something here under Allardyce but the dogs in Fleet Street rounded on him and that is that

There are surely some other candidates for this job that the FA looked over in there expedient appointment of Southgate

For me David Moyes or Mark Hughes might have been a better bet

Who is your choice for the England job?

I always find it strange that the English public don't get wholeheartedly behind the national team this is one of the many reasons they under perform on the international stage imo

        1. Worzel Gummidge

They don't under perform at all. They are just an average team.

Average teams can do great things under the right conditions as we have seen in the Euros like Denmark Greece and more recently Portugal

That's a good point, although on the other hand for every Greece and Denmark there are at least 10 average teams that don't over-perform.

We've been let down too many times in comparison to the hype. Plus internationals get in the way of league football, which probably has a stronger following than in most other countries (92 clubs).

Good point on the hype/media factor this is one of the other reasons for under achievement

But i do not accept that domestic league support is a bad thing for the international team there is strong domestic leagues in Spain Italy Germany and France and it does not seem to get in there way

It's that annoying thing that randomly happens every so often that means we have to climb the walls for 2 weeks waiting for the PL to restart.

I wonder whether part of it is the expansion of the international calendar to take in more friendlies, longer training periods around qualifiers etc. I find the two week break so dull, and the early one when the league is just warming up kills momentum.

Stoke might have solved their defensive problems out. In the last 8 games they have conceded 5 goals and 3 of those games they achieved a clean sheet. In every game they only conceded one goal which tells me that their chances of getting a clean sheet looks promising.

I admit that they did play "easy" opposition, but I still think they've got that confidence to defend again. They shouldn't be conceding 4 goals in a games like they were doing previously. Also at the start of the season, they were punishing the tugging of shirts in the box but it seems like that's quickly been ignored these days. They were conceding alot at set pieces earlier in the season.

Now as to which one to choose, I'd pick Pieters since he's the cheapest and will play. I'd probably downgrade Fuchs since Leicester are no longer the team they were last season. I'd only put Fuchs in, if Leicester start to go on a defensive run.

i agree the only problem is Stoke's fixtures.Dont think is a good period except gw14 to bring in a stoke defender.

I just don't think there's any "easy" fixtures out there any more. I think every fixture is hard these days. I think it team mentality and philosophy matters more than which team you play against. There's a reason why Conte and Pulis manage to get clean sheets this season. It's just my opinion.

I aggree and generally of course in english football every fixture is hard. But we must try to find these fixtures that may give a clean sheet.Pulis manage to get only 2 clean sheets.I think you mean Hughes.

No I mean Tony Pulis with West Brom. West Brom are not top guns in the prem but come the end of the season, Pulis will have his team within the top half of the defensive record.

Looking for more opinions on McAuley - can he keep up his goal-scoring form or is it a bit of a fluke? 3 goals in 13 matches so far when he's never scored more than 3 in an entire season.

(Thanks Zoopa for reply on previous page)

    1. Nomar

I like him but he has tough fixtures coming up.

He's one of those defenders, for me anyway, who you need to play every week because of his goal threat and the danger of benching him the week he scores.

And therein lies the problem with his upcoming fuxtures: You're gambling a starting spot in the hopes he scores because there are unlikely to be many cleanies in that lot of games upcoming.

I was considering wildcarding this week and looked at him but his next set of fixtures genuinely put me off.

Don't think it's a fluke he is genuinely dangerous from set pieces. He hit the post v City so it was almost four goals.

I've had him since week 1, I'll be benching over Xmas as after that fixtures get good again.

More likely to ditch Foster from my WBA contingent.

Im not convinced if the Spurs outfield love at the moment, to be honest with you.

It may just be me but I don't think they're prolific scorers like Liverpool or Chelsea and Eriksen has 1 goal and 1 assist all season, I think.

To me anyway that doesn't justify paying 8.1m or however much he is now. I think there's better value mids at the moment, Pedro, Walcott, Moses, Mata, Siggy, Milner all cheaper and have done more than Eriksen.

      1. Cok3y5murf
        • 9 Years

This 100%. Indeed Spurs aren't prolific scorers this season. I understand that Lukaku -> Kane is a decent move (not a great one), but Eriksen and Alli are absolute punts. If not for the fixture, no one would've brought their names up.

    From next GW onwards:

    A) Alonso + Can

Don't own any Chelsea players atm...

He would be my 4th mid. Could go up to 5.6m but don't really fancy anyone in that bracket more than Can.

It's either Alonso + 5.6 mid (no one I like at this price more than Can) or Cedric + 6.8 mid (no one I like at this price more than Moses). Wish I could afford Pedro or Mata but my options are limited.

    Hi all

Am I mad by hanging onto Gundogan for one last week? I have sneaky feeling he may start this one however I dont think I can handle another no-show! If I get rid who do you think is a good replacement?

    Current team:

    Pick/Jaku
    Stones Williams VVD Amat Friend
    Sanchez Firmino Siggy Gundo (Barry)
    Kane Aguero Austin

    0.5 ITB
Taking Gundo out would leave me with 6.1 to spend.

    Any suggestions welcome!

Its probably earlier than needed but just in case people end up with squad full of them over xmas period I decided to write up the potential AFCON players who may be missing
the tournament runs between 14th jan- 5th feb. so likely GW21- GW24. There is a cup weekend prior to the start so it is unlikely anyone will miss games before tournament as I am pretty sure most players fly out around 10 days early at most. Though you should note that if a player wins it they have been known to go missing after the final.
please note this was done by abacus and papyrus so there may be the odd error.
    gabon- ndong (sland)
    b faso- none
    Cameroon- nyom (wba) matip (lpool)
    g bissae- none
Algeria- guedioura (wfd) mahrez, slimani (leic) feghouli (whu)
    Tunisia- khazri (slnd)
Senegal- gueye (eve) kouyate (whu) diouf (stoke) mane (lpool) saoure (cpal) niassie (eve) djilobodji (slnd) shako (whu)
    Zimbabwe- none
I coast- kone (slnd) gradel (bmth) bony (stoke) bailly (mu) * I am assuming toure will be retired
DR congo- bolasie (eve) mbokanie (hull) afobe (bmth) mandanda (pal)
morocco - boufal (spton) amrabat (wtfd)
    togo- none
Ghana- schlupp (leic) amartey (leic) ayew (whu)
    mali- sako (pal)
Egypt- el mo (hull) elnenny (ars) sobhi (stoke)
    Uganda- none

so at first look I don't see it making much of a difference, maybe half a dozen first team regulars amongst them. Obvious ones are mahrez, slimani, bolasie, bailly, ayew & matip
I have not included loan players, if you have them and you haven't noticed already you are beyond hope
anyway hope it is of use, at very least you know when it is
