Eden Hazard and Diego Costa find their feet away from home and punish the legions of Fantasy Premier League managers who dismissed them ahead of Gameweek 27. Elsewhere, Manuel Lanzini’s late goal blinked the Argentine on the Gameweek 28 radar, while causing yet more frustration in Chelsea’s defensive assets.

Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s action…

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
Without a goal away from home since the Gameweek 14 victory at the Etihad, the Belgian overcame concerns of his form on the road to convert Chelsea’s counter-attacking opener.

The 11 points – Hazard’s seventh double-figure return of the season – took him to 163 points, second only to Alexis Sanchez overall.

With an aggressive chase for Manchester City assets taking place prior to this Gameweek and a blank to come, Hazard had suffered more than 179,000 sales prior to the London Stadium visit.

But with a double Gameweek to be scheduled and kind short-term fixtures against Stoke City and Crystal Palace, Hazard surely remains in our thoughts for the run-in.

With doubts surrounding Arsenal’s form and a seemingly unsettled Sanchez, the Belgian’s stock as a heavy-hitter midfield asset appears strengthened and we’re likely to see his ownership rise again once Gameweek 28 has passed.

Diego Costa
The Spain international doubled up with Hazard to punish the thousands of FPL managers who traded their Blues assets for City acquisitions.

More than 156,000 moved Costa out of their squads in the scramble for Sergio Aguero and, while that’s a move that could, and should, return profit, the Chelsea man nonetheless issued a reminder that he cannot be easily dismissed.

Monday’s effort, a simple tap in from a Cesc Fabregas corner, was his first goal on the road since a Gameweek 17 headed winner at Crystal Palace.

Despite the perception that Costa has struggled to keep pace with Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, he has returned a goal or an assist in four of his last six Gameweek starts.

Nonetheless, doubts remain on his ability to “explode” double-digit returns.

Costa produced nine points on Monday and has broken the 10-point barrier on just three occasions; Lukaku and Kane have supplied six double-figure returns apiece.

Manuel Lanzini
A strike at the death proved a bitter blow to those FPL managers holding Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and his defensive team-mates, but it also offered further indication of the Argentine’s recent form.

While we will still likely focus on the appeal of the returning Michail Antonio for the Gameweek 28 visit to Bournemouth, Lanzini at 6.3 to Antonio’s 6.9, clearly has the potential to provide an effective differential.

With three goals and a trio of assists in his last six Gameweek starts, Lanzini certainly makes a case to supersede Robert Snodgrass as the option to undercut Antonio.

Snodgrass has delivered one assist in his four Hammers’ starts so far, despite creating nine chances – more than any of his team-mates over that four-match spell.

But the Scot has lagged behind in terms of goal threat. Lanzini has fired in 12 efforts on goal over the last four Gameweeks, compared to Snodgrass’ disappointing contribution of just five attempts.

In Decline

Marcos Alonso
Established as the go-to option in the Chelsea defence around these parts, Alonso is beginning to cause some concern following the Blues’ run of five Gameweeks without a clean sheet. Lanzini’s late goal means that Antonio Conte’s rearguard has kept just two shut-outs in their last nine outings.

Attacking returns have also somewhat dried up over that spell, with the Spaniard contributing a single goal over his last six outings – his last assist was back in Gameweek 19.

But patience is perhaps a worthy policy; Chelsea have strong short-term fixtures and Monday night again saw the Spaniard bomb forward on occasions, earning four penalty area touches – only Costa (five) manager more for the Blues.

Ultimately, our degree of patience shown in Alonso and the Chelsea back four may depend on the “cost of sale” and a reluctance to abandon a prime defensive asset prior to a Chelsea double Gameweek.

Winston Reid
Hobbling off on 68 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle problem, the Kiwi is now an early doubt for West Ham’s visit to Bournemouth in Gameweek 28.

With two goals and three assists to his name, Reid is arguably the key asset for those considering a Hammers defensive acquisition.

Any absence would cast real doubt on investment elsewhere, with Cheikhou Kouyate or James Collins likely to deputise alongside Jose Fonte.

Slaven Bilic’s defence have not kept a clean sheet on their travels since Gameweek 8, a factor that should perhaps be considered when weighing up the merits of Bournemouth’s Josh King as a short-term purchase.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Have made 2 transfers for -4 and have 8 players.

Nearest ML rival has made 3 transfers for -8 and has 10 players.

    I am 52 points ahead.

    Should I:

    A - stick
B - Bring Lanzini in for Sterling to move to -8

    Thanks

If you get rid of him now for a GW28 player it would effectively be for only half a hit due to appearance points, Carroll, Llorente and Gray are possibilities.

            Yeh, I'm thinking Carroll.

But do you think I'd be better to keep him for the Watford fixture?

His form is diabolical but it just feels like a game where he should do well.

      Kouyate Noble
      Antonio Lanzini Snodgrass
      Carroll

Yeah I was wondering this too. They have done well in this formation but his default with a fit and available Carroll and Antonio has been 442. The thing is, if it is 442 it makes more sense to bring in Antonio. If he sticks then it makes more sense to bring in Lanzini. Such a tough decision/gamble!

West Brom played poorly last time out and didn't score against a team they arguably should have scored against. Not many clear chances. Don't think Pullis will stick with a losing team if Phillips is fit.

    GW28 - G2G?

    (Hennessey)
    Baines - Brunt - Holgate - Fernandez
    Phillips - Siggy - Firmino
    Rondon - Lukaku - Llorente

Grant - Sanchez - Luiz - De Roon

Will do Phillips and Rondon to Kane and Alli for GW29.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    GWK 28 differentials

With many teams owning key GWK 28 players such as Lukaku, Sigurdsson and Mane who will be this reduced Gameweek's key differentials?

Could Lanzini be the man? Will Carroll be fit enough to rise salmon like in the penalty box? Or are there some Hull gems we are ignoring?

I between Lanzini and Antonio. West Ham mid is very tempting for the next 3 games. Antonio proved some consistency this season however Lanzini has good form - what do you think ?

i'm starting to feel like WHM mids are like LIV's - which to choose?

Snoddy, Antonio, Lanzini, even Ayew - any of them could break out at any time...though Lanzini seems to be the one not so dependent on others to create for him so...ach, who knows.

I think owning all of Lukaku, Siggy and Mané is a differential in itself. They are not as highly owned as you'd think, Siggy and Mané both around 15 %.

        (Grant Pickford)
        Brunt Baines Robertson (Pieters Lenihan)
        Mane Siggy Phillips Fletcher (Sterling)
        Lukaku (Kun Kane)

Used my FT on Ibra > Lukaku to give me 8 (if Phillips plays), which of these would you do for a hit?

        a) Kun > Llorente
        b) Sterling > Firmino
        c) Sterling > Coutinho
        d) Lenihan > Coleman (will shift Lenihan on my WC in a few weeks if not)
        e) Option a) and one of the others for -8 (if so, which one)

Maybe some more discussion concering West Ham mids ? They have nice fixtures and playing pretty good now so who is the best option ? Should we go for Antonio again or trust Lanzini ?

            Depends on your budget.

Lanzini is in the better form, however Antonio has had a rest and will be raring to go.

Personally i'd go Antonio over Lanzini, but gonna try fit one or both into my team.

I'd bring in a WH mid to cover their decent fixtures. Antonio would be my pick of them though.

Spent ages deliberating over this. Went for Liv just b/c don't know who to expect with Antonio + Carroll + maybe Ayew. Ideally would agree on not doubling up; whu decent fixtures beyond 28.

I guess it depends whether you would play both Sterling and Kun vs POOL, Arsenal and Chelsea in the coming fixtures otherwise it'a good time to get rid as you'll get half back this week just in appearance points.

Take out Ibra and PVA as priorities and if you don't mind another -2 then a gamble on Sterling > Cout/Firm may pay off well.

                  a. Ibra + Capoue > Lukaku + King -4
                  b. Kun + Phillips > Luka + Coutinho -4
                  c. a+ Kingsley > Olssen

Yes or No? do Heaton > Jaku for an extra hit if he's out as I will have no playing keeper and need funds for future trades anyway.

Thanks. Just don't see many CS in Lord Heatons future. And I'll need every .1 to get the team I want in the coming weeks.

Judging by the transfers made today, maybe I was too premature doing Aguero - > Llorente. Is Carroll the man to have now?

                      King or Snodgrass?

Think over 5m is too pricey for a 5th mid in the coming weeks. How often is he going to be playing if Llorente is your 3rd striker? T.carroll is a gem at 4.3m. That extra mill can go a long way for your starting 11 coming into 29 30.
