The search for a viable captain in Gameweek 30’s tricky set of fixtures is among the issues concerning our community writers, while our hot topics are also preoccupied by armband worries as they take a closer look at the strategies of FPL’s top managers.

Early double Gameweek planning, and the upgrade to viewing our hot topics also come under discussion, with our Member tables adding further insight into the midfield of Southampton, one of the teams awaiting news of their rescheduled matches.

Replacements for Everton’s long-term injury victim, Seamus Coleman, are also scrutinised by our resident statitisticians, and we round off with an update on the latest Fantasy football game to capture the community’s imagination.

The Community Articles

With many of the top sides facing each other, this Gameweek looks tough to call regarding the captaincy.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso are among those differential armband options being considered. But according to YMA’s latest look at the key candidates, form trumps fixtures when it comes to the best source of points.

Selecting the correct captain has also been key for those at the top of the career Hall of Fame, who Top Marx has once again been analysing.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Arsenal and Southampton assets are soon set to be in demand, once the final Premier League fixture changes are unveiled, as both will enjoy two double Gameweeks. But drafting in the likes of Alexis Sanchez can mean painful sacrifices need to be made, according to our discussion on how to best prepare for the doubles.

Another player set for substantial investment is Zlatan Ibrahimovic – he returns from suspension in Gameweek 31, with United one of three teams to have a double in Gameweek 34. Snevitz is unconvinced by the big Swede’s appeal and questions whether the 11.4-priced forward is really essential for the season run-in.

FPL’s top-ranked manager Uwais Ahmed is another who is sceptical about whether the Manchester United striker is a necessary transfer, having only owned him for two Gameweeks during his stellar campaign.

Luke the Elneny enthusiast has been taking a closer look at Uwais’ season and in particular his captaincy selections to spark a discussion on this top manager’s tactic of captaining form players on the road.

Romelu Lukaku could be a case in point this weekend, when the Everton talisman collides with Liverpool’s less than reliable defence at Anfield. Andy85wsm is among those wondering whether the Belgian is now undroppable, given a recent record that has harvested nine goals in his last six league starts.

With the Toffees marksman now costing 10.5, a hike of 1.5 on his initial valuation, the transfer market continues to punish those with low team value. Oddjobleff says that, even though the season is coming to a close, FPL managers should still look to maximise their funds, particularly as those with a Wildcard look to squeeze in as many heavy-hitters with double Gameweeks as possible.

Our live Hall of Fame was updated over the international break with our analysis showing that the top managers have been particularly adept at tackling double and blank Gameweeks. This is calculated with a greater rating for more recent seasons, something MTPockets proposes changing to better reflect past form.

TorresMagic added to the discussion to ponder whether points accrued over a series of seasons could also be used to judge long-term success.

Analysis of the live Hall of Fame top ten revealed this elite bunch are still undecided as to whether 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 is the better formation. We followed this up by asking which you prefer as well as pondering the potential benefits of opting for a hybrid of both strategies.

This week saw the launch of our Hot Topics page to offer the community a new way of posting and viewing our best discussions and announcements. We are still keen to hear from you about how this can be further developed.

The Members Tables

Surgical_attack has been taking a look at attacking defenders to replace Everton’s Seamus Coleman, who is out for a number of months after breaking his leg on international duty.

Meanwhile, watp73 has been delving deep into the statistics of the Southampton midfield.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

    TM245:
Team value is always important and your responses to the posts are spot on -- getting priced out of a player to avoid a hit might just cost you that hit later on: if you have to use another transfer to raise the money to bring him in at his inflated price, all while potentially missing the form or fixture that prompted the price rise to begin with, not sure how that is the prudent move.

But that is assuming a long term necessity. Sure for someone like Sanchez or Lukaku it is fine. But think about the immediacy. -4 is a lot of points to just freely throw away on a gamble/hunch. I'll take hits for DGW players and injuries, but can't see it being necessary for other players. Imagine taking a hit to bring in which Liverpool mid did well the week before, you'd be constantly plunging down the rankings, when staying put on one would've been the obvious answer.

Well said, but I think there's more than one way to skin a cat, if you will.

I've played it awfully safe this year: trying to take fewer hits; waiting until Friday to make transfers; not jumping on every bandwagon just to gain 0.1; etc. I think I've saved myself a lot of headaches by being conservative and waiting to have all the information possible before choosing what moves to make.

Now, might it all backfire when my WC is 5.0M short of others' who have been more aggressive? Possibly. But time is running out on the strategy not working for me. If it means you get Hazard and Walker in your WC and I get Pedro and Davies, I'm not sure the team value has really mattered that much.

But it's a good - and fun - debate, and one that really does define how we all play the game differently.

      Cheers.

My problem with Son is that Janssen, who famously is recovering from a chest infection, is only mentioned in that regard because Poch wants to get him into the fray. Poch keeps pimping Janssen, and saying he needs to step up. So if Son starts this GW, there is little chance he starts the next. So I am thining he is the most expendable. Simples.

I understand what you're saying, I just don't think Janssen would start against a tough Burnley side. I know I will have to lose Son eventually, probably next week, but i'm just trying to work out whether Son > Tadic for a -4 would pay off for one week only. I know there is an argument to look at it over the course of the next few weeks but i'm 100+ behind and I need to maximise the points potential of every gameweek remaining and I really can't decide on whether to make the move this week

I don't disagree that Janssen is in the fray. Just not this gw. If Son fails to perform tomorrow, then I can see him being benched midweek. Just don't see how Son is an emergency to take out this gw (for a hit no less). Simples.

That is exactly what I am thinking. Getting rid of him for a hit might not be the best move. If it was for free, I would've done so but i'm not so sure. I think I will stick, thanks for your replies and good luck!

Lol, he is the ONLY one I am considering taking out! However, as mentioned below, he is likely to lead the line and Spurs are a brilliant attacking force and knowing that he might start is holding me back but I don't know who to captain if i stick!

Any big hitter in the Ars-City game would be my first choice, there should be quite a few goals you'd imagine. Good luck!

I have all of those and I am going Sanchez. To be candid, part of it is that he plays in the last televised match of the GW. But consider this: he is good. I mean, really good. He is up against top opponents, but they win by outscoring their opponents, not by shutting them down. So Sanchez is going to be confronted with a leaky opponent that he really wants to beat. Did I mention that he is good? Wouldn't it be nice to watch your (good) captain on tv in the last match of the GW?

Have 2 FT and 7.4 in bank.

Thinking of doing doing Brunt to Valencia, but should I do Gray to someone as well? All preferred long term options are injured (Gabbiadini and Kane). Will do Mane to Sanchez next week, so have 10.6 for forward. Keep Gray or get Vardy or someone else?

    Courtois (Jakupovic)
    Walker Baines Smith (Brunt, Love)
Alli Sigurdsson Mane Lanzini De Roon

Oh, thought it was 2 of 3. Tricky one, I am playing Mawson as he has some chance of a CS and goal. Baines pretty much is just there for penalty/assist return this week. The old NBNC is harder to use when Mawson makes the bench in the Scout Picks.
